If you've missed the last few episodes, we decided to buy a cabin, move into it and get comfortable for the winter. It has been a LONG 4 years of self building our home and it's time we start living again...with winter finally behind us, it's time we set our sights BACK to the shipping container home and finish what we started!

How did we end up here?
It all began with a year of full-time travel, embracing the van life until the world shifted, and we had to adjust accordingly. With travel no longer an option but determined to stay productive, we transformed our compact mobile abode into a self-sufficient off-grid dwelling that fulfilled all our needs. Recognizing the uncertainty of the current tiny home, we quickly realized a permanent residence was the most sensible choice. Over the past three years, we have meticulously overseen every aspect of the project ourselves, planning the construction while simultaneously setting up the off-grid property to sustain our future food requirements. For the last two years we've lived in a Geodesic Dome, which has allowed us to be comfortable (expect for the winter months), while we realize our shipping container home dream. However, this will mark our 4th winter with stable electricity, running water, or a flushing toilet and time has come to come up with a new plan going forward.

Obviously we feel like this with both of you. We can’t get enough of you guys. You have inspired me to get my mom’s yard back to what she loved. She passed 6 yrs ago after a long illness that me and stepdad took care of her bc she wanted to be at home. She loved working in her yard. It wasn’t work to her it was fun. It’s not my thing mainly bc I don’t know what I’m doing. But I’m going to put some color back in her yard . After some yt videos for a little education. I’ve learned from you guys my only failure is not trying. So thanks guys. I love you guys and your fur family.❤

I love their contractor! Just one guy that knows what he’s doing, and is teaching them too. He isn’t afraid of the mistakes he finds, he just figures out how to fix them. And best of all the guys are comfortable with him.
He's absolutely the construction angel the boys needed to find.

Oh, those pocket door kits bring back memories of renovations past! Pocket doors greatly increase labor costs and force you to carefully consider where to run plumbing and electrical lines, but they are SO worth it! Smart choice on the pocket doors, guys!

Since that's a tight closet area - I recommend building 2-4 drawers in the bottom portion and then a pull out rod on top so that you don't need a dresser in that room and you won't have wasted/dead space

As a wheelchair user, the thought of having every door at 36” sounds like a dream!
It's also good to look to the future as you age. Wheelchairs and walkers, even crutches and canes, need the extra space.
I wish they had that requirement here in the states. It's mostly 32" doors here and sometimes just 30". 32" doors make for small hallways.

Yes, Tyler, let Todd redo the bunky! Give him your emotional support but, also, a helping hand when needed, too. You know Todd will do most of the work anyway just because he is so driven and energetic once he starts one of his "special" projects. Keep him fed and hydrated; that's key.
I hope you get a truckload of gravel or pebbles to replace all of those rocks you guys removed from the lake shoreline. Keep at least one row of the larger rocks at the water's edge to retain the gravel, too.

I hope you guys are paying this carpenter extra. Teaching, training and working patiently beside/with the client, as well as being videoed is far and above what most trades people would be willing to do. I'm envisioning French doors on the back of the bunky and the inside set up like a little lounge, maybe with a bar next to the door facing the cottage. That way, when the bugs get bad, you can sit inside, maybe with a screen, and still look out of the doors.
