Fishing baits are always being discussed amongst fishermen. I have heard for the LONGEST time that THIS is the best surf fishing bait. Depends who you ask. Some people say shrimp is the best surf fishing bait.. some people say sand fleas are the best surf fishing bait. I have no tried fishing with sand fleas around here.. have I been missing out? Today, we're going to try to find some sand fleas, catch them, catch some fish on them, and then cook the fish. Lets see what happens!

Have you ever caught the same fish that you caught previously?
When I was a kid, living in Florida, the local fishers on the pier helped me a lot. I use to catch all kinds of wild stuff like stingrays, crabs, sharks, blow fish… They watched out for me to make sure I didn’t get hurt.

I always use sand fleas for surf fishing in California. The trick I've found is to actually use a light slip sinker and Carolina rig with a 1/0 octopus hook. Then kinda let the sand flea and the whole rig roll with the waves. It's a more natural presentation. Those fish are real close to shore pecking off sand fleas as the waves drag them out.
Hey First State! I live in Va. Beach,VA and I've found out for over 50 years of fishing that every fish here loves Bloodworms. I know they've gotten more expensive over the years but they are a "go-to" bait, for me. Just a suggestion. That Static Seasoning might be the ticket for me also-it looks good.

YAY got my seasonings! tried some before slapping them on my mussels with cream cheese. Got the Cajun one! haven't ate it yet but it's in the oven. also will be adding a side of garlic and herb Pasta Roni.

If you hold the line with your pointer finger it is easier to feel the bite.
I do alittle similar I lay line across finger. If I'm working a lure I grab with thumb and index as I reel to feel the bite. 😊

What part of florida have you been fishing in these recent videos? I’ve lived down here for 2 years in the gulf coast from the north east of states and just got back into fishing and have never fished the surf.
Browns Creek Fish Camp is where I buy live sand fleas when I can’t catch any. :) Pompano love this stuff.
Have you ever tried fishing for saltwater gar? They are a fish that most fishermen hate, but when I was in the Mid East I had great fun catching them. If you get a half-decent-sized one on a hook they really take off standing on their tails. And again because of their looks nobody ever eats them.

Haha I grew up in Delaware for a few years (most my life in Cali) and I was hoping you called them Sand Crabs when you said you were from Delaware!! So cool you did
I use them for striped bass and anything else that bites lmao. I recommend hooking the crabs through the pointy almost shell like price of the crab the is above the orange eggs. By doing that you disable the sand crab from digging back into the sand

You can drill small holes at the of the bucket and use it dig them out.
When fishing in South Africa, you want colour in the water. Days when the water is crystal clear, it means the water is cold, wind direction is wrong and fishing is generally tough
Great video you should try throwing the artificial Berkeley gulp sand flea works really good for surf fishing here in Southern California. You should pick up a pack and try it.
Man, I tried fishing last week right before Hilary came through at 4 different piers and all I caught were some small fish on Sebiki rigs. They weren’t biting on shrimp, squid, or cut bait. Just crabs.

Dude one thing I learned in life from liking cars is don't cheap out on car parts and don't cheap out on tools look at it this way one quality purchase of a tool and you'll always have the tool for later use in the future
Get a cast net small enough for bait fish. Catch what bait fish are in the area you are fishing (match the hatch) experiment with placement in the water column. A carolina rig in grass flats...knocker rig around bridge pilings...popping cork etc. Find what works for you. My favorite is the carolina rig with 3 feet of 20lb fluorocarbon leader and twice the rod length of shock leader. A small croaker is awfully hard for fish to pass up. Use smaller sized bait. A fish that's not hungry is most likely to bite a small bait fish...just like you and I will eat a small potato chip even after we just ate a big cheeseburger.
You have a great opportunity to create a cheap DIY sand flea catching device!
If you want help finding the sand fleas I suggest east coast of Florida near Cocoa Beach I find them there often.

Bunker when I'm using live bait and old fashion spoon is my go to lure

Pflueger presidents reels are nice for the price. A lot more expensive ones out there but those are more well known like the stradics and stuff. Doubt your looking at those.
In England we use black lug worm for bass from the beach
Get a 3.5 gallon bucket from Walmart and cut narrow slots all around the bucket with a Dremel and dig in the sand for the fleas with that. Once you get it about half full just stand in the surf and sift the sand out of the bucket through the slots
i think it would be easier to go get a $20 sandflea rake at the bait shop
@@941fishing3 I don’t know where you are but around SC those small sand flea rakes start around $70 the large ones are closer to $100. I’ve had the same $3 bucket for 15 years and it works just fine.

Oddly, whenever i use bait it just gets picked apart by pinfish on me. I usually do my best using lures and artificials.
If you’re still in Jax go to Ricks bait shop by Jax beach, they got the rakes ther for like 20 bucks

I swear by shrimp when surf fishing, but my dad claims squid is the best. We're planning on a fishing challenge to see who catches more fish with which bait later this month.

In California we would catch them but we called them sand crabs.
In North Carolina we call them sand pigs *some of us do* not all of us call them that ps. They are cute when you see a brand new baby one and btw if you flip one over where their eggs are aka the orange stuff you can lift up a plate and look at the eggs better

Sand fleas are also great for catching big whiting off the beach but it's more easier to catch the Sand fleas putting your hands together like a shovel

The biggest sand flees I have seen are in San Diego: they are MASSIVE. I couldn’t believe how big they were when we were catching them

Sand flea rake is definitely worth the money
Take a piece of fish or chicken skin and peg it into the sand (just be careful the waves to wash it away) wait about 60 second and then there will be hundreds flocking to eat the bait. Makes them really easy to catch.

I was born and raised in Tampa and never heard of sand fleas until I was on my 50's
The orange stuff is actually their eggs if there orange that means there in fertleized but if you see that there black I wouldn’t recommend keeping them

Dude all you need is a bucket with some holes on the bottom to drain the sand but not big enough for the sand flees to go through
