Today, Phil talks about the differences you'll typically see from balls with higher intermediate differentials vs. balls with lower intermediate differentials.

I like these sessions i realize why my ball does what it does
Great description and exactly what I counted on with my first generation Radical Results Asym ball. I am an average axis tilt, low rev, higher speed stoker with a ball speed averaging 17.5 MPH and drilled the ball for the max hook skid flip layout. At my bowling center with synthetic lanes which are usually more dry and burnt out down lane a symmetric ball wold hardly hook and slide through the back lane with little movement. Now with the Radical Result max flip layout I get a great snap off the back of the lane and good angles into the 17 board and a lot more strikes. I can control the pocket now more with slight speed changes than with changes in my foot position left or right. Usually play between the 5 and 10 board on release and get a good 12 to 15 boards of motion. More ringing ten pins than 5 pins or 7 pins. Averaging 195.
Love this channel. Explains the science behind all these bowling stats.
Nice tip Phil
Hope you’re doing well Phil I just saw you down at Executive bowl in Louisville. Hope the convention is going well!
The more I watch these videos the more undecided I get when it comes to the two angle I want a ball drilled at. Ahhhh!!!! 😂
As far as patterns go, I think that balls with a higher int diff work better on longer and heavier patterns where you don’t have as much time for the ball to hook off the end of the pattern. On a long pattern, 45ft plus, you need that quick flip and roll motion to get the ball to the pocket.
Likewise on shorter or lower volume patterns, I think the lower int diff balls or even a symmetrical ball works best. That way you get an earlier but less violent ball reaction that will keep the ball continuous through the pins instead of a roll-out reaction.
Great explanation!
Probably Bring back the Jackpot and make it SLIGHTLY Asym like .008 so it can be used on dry patterns
1st thanks for the vids... so im a high rev guy who just ordered The Spy. My house shot is super dry. Every ball i have seems to hook like crazy. Pearls, solids and hybrids. What kind of layout would u suggest to get the spy to get downlane but still have enough backend to get the 10 back
I have been reviewing my 15 year old arsenal to finally replace some balls. I am a lefty with lower ball speed, perhaps like yourself. My newest ball since 2015 is the Brutal Collision with 0.019 INT in 14 lb. My Track 706T has 0.006 INT but seems to have more motion off the spot and be more continuous on a Crown Jewel like house shot. Do you think this is due to the stronger cover and lower RG?
However, on a pattern with more oil, where the 706T skids further, I still find the Brutal Collison to roll smooth, leave a lot of 7 pins, and the occasion 5-6-10. Roto Grip Mutant Cell and Mutant Cell Pearl are 2.57, 0.040, 0.020 and are sharper off the spot and sometimes uncontrollable.
Did I make a mistake buying the Brutal Collision with such a low RG? Would you recommend removing as much surface as possible and adding polish to get more downlane motion? I like to only bring 2 balls and a spare ball to league and don't bowl many tournaments. I feel like this ball is a pricey urethane like control ball and am disappointed. Thanks! Mike
P.S. What ball is at the top of your bag?
How is this different from "Max differential"
I've always gravitated towards the higher inter diff balls (asyms), but I've started throwing the Bonus and like its shape.
With my low tilt, I mostly go for the max flip or most versatile layouts, which typically increase the diffs. But I like the shape that the max flip layouts give. I can stand left, throw between 20-25, and still have the ball come back.
I can't recommend the BONU$ enough. it hasn't let me down when I needed it and it's done EXACTLY what I needed it to do. One of the best balls in my arsenal
@@DrengrWolf I have both the solid and pearl and they are awesome. Wish they would re-release the pearl with HK22 in the cover
@@CKBowling1 oh man. A BONU$ with hk22? Sign me up! Lol
What does intermediate diff mean
On asyms it's the high rg axis aka the mass bias so the higher that number the stronger the mass bias is on the core
If I’m not mistaken it’s the difference between high RG and Low RG numbers on a bowling ball.
@@atbsigma that's just differential
I definitely fall into the lower intermediate differential with medium speed and a higher rev rate. I don't like the hockey stick motion. I create my own backend.
High RG - Intermediate RG
Hokusai solos extreme diff
