  • Welcome to my review of the Five Ten Freerider Pro. A show which offers a few better features compared to the standard 5ten Freerider shoes but not without some drawbacks.
    In this video I'll give you a quick rundown of my experiences from riding with these MTB Shoes over the past 6 or so months.

    Real strong review man, this exactly sums up the pros and cons I've found with the Freerider and the Freerider Pros. For me, I'll be going back to the regular Freeriders next time around.

    I rode my old pair of freeriders for 3 years and just upgraded to these. They are awesome! Higher performance in general and one of the best parts of them, as you point out, is how easy they are to clean vs the original. I heard a lot of people say that the original freeriders are the best, and I have to say I disagree after using my new freerider pros. Also, my feet get hot and sweat in both so I don’t notice a big difference there.

    The part about interacting with the pedals really helped me as I also ride concave pedals, and am used to some conformity with the sole of my shoe. Sounds like standard free riders are the right choice to upgrade from my skate shoes

      I loved my classics. They had so much grip on the pedals.

  • @mtbboy1993
    @mtbboy1993 Před 5 lety

    I prefer to use Freerider high & Freerider EPS High, the Freerider has good air flow, so I get cooled down in the summer, and the EPS is nice for riding in the winter.
    And I prefer high tops cus, the extra protection they give me, like smashing pedals on the rear of foot or pedals to the front of foot, or just branches rocks, it does not hurt or not as bad, and I don't get scraped up and bloody.
    For pedals I use Catalyst pedals, for support of arch and stability.
    these are trying to be mix both, not a good idea IMO.
    if you are looking for the best durability, and protection Impact shoes are the choice, better for landing with your fit on top of sharp rocks, but they are about 1 cm higher, and are hot, not good for summer, and are heavy, but only suitable for dh riding or people show can't stop crashing and get foot hit on everything possible. I have tried that just to test it out, jumped off from a playground castle, walked over rocks, jumped on rocks, kicked on rocks, results were pretty good.
    I found Freerider to feel the best, they give some feedback without being too harsh, but of course if you bail or jump and fall with feet on top of sharp rocks it's going to hurt.
    I guess the freeride pro is bringing some features of the impact at lower weight and not as extreme.'
    but I will stick to my current setup.

      @antiherobc  Před 5 lety +1

      Ah i'd love some highs. We are very limited with which models we can buy here. Ja, the Pro does have some toe protection and it work.

    Thanks for the awesome review definitely what I was looking for. Would like to ask some few questions.
    Just purchased the regualr free riders and the fit was spot on I guess. My feet are pretty wide. I want a lighter shoe. Should I consider this as an option? I mean you said that is narrower? So I think it will be uncomfortable for me cause of my wide feet? The free riders for me is either enough wide, so going narrower would be not good? Will it get wide over time? Feet are kinda sensitive it hurts if its tight.
    And also can you recommend other wide flat shoes?
    Thanks for the reply in advance!

    • @antiherobc
      @antiherobc  Před 3 lety +1

      These have a very rigid and plastic feeling upper so they don't stretch like normal shoes. I'd get something else or stick with the standard freerider

    Five ten does not have any sizes in stock especially size 12us, and all my pairs fell apart so time to switch brands. I’m now running a new brand called Ride Concepts and there amazing and 2x cheaper and they are amazing so far I think there better then 510s. You should check them out, I highly recommend.

    So first I love you cat. He or she is too cool, I was thinking about getting either the freeRider pro, or the Five Ten Access Mesh Men's MTB Shoe Stealth Outdoor Trail. I have always heard the freeRide as being great but the new Access also has the stealth and I like the look better. Can you tell me if there is that much difference while on the Mountain bike if one is really that much better or is it a wash and personal preference. I assume the ones I have listed above, either one would be much better then Merrell Moab 2 LOL Thanks and killer cat.

    Although bike specific shoes have great features and are built a bit more tuff. When it comes to flat pedal specific MTB shoes, in my opinion you are overpaying for marketing bullshit.
    I have been riding MTB for 24 years now, always on flats and always wore skate shoes of good quality with tacky and nobby or wavey patterned soles. Never paying more then 50 to 60 dollers and they last me an average of 2 to 3 seasons. They are breathable dry in a few hours after getting yet or scrubbing them. They also hold true on the pedal with hardly no slip.
    Flat pedal MTB shoes are way over priced for what they are and should never be more then 80 bucks regular priced. Some being priced at 150 to 250 is just plane stupid and I laugh at individuals shelling out that kind of coin. Where you can save for MTB trips or more important MTB gear.
    Clip pedal shoes are another thing altogether and I understand them to be costly like a good ski boot or hockey skate.
    With that being said great and honest review as always.

    • @antiherobc
      @antiherobc  Před 5 lety

      You have some really good pints there and I do agree with you on some of those. I have used adidas skate shoes, Airwalks and some Globe shoes in the past. They didn't last as long as my freeriders, the pedal pins wore and ripped the soles on all of them, they were a little worn from walking but i did find the rubber on them, especially the adidas was too thin to withstand critical damage from the pins.
      But you are right, MTB shoes are expensive and they shouldn't be that much more than normal skate shoes, I get that they are niche and sell a lot less of them but over time the tooling costs of the companies have been paid for in multiples.

    • @aughtrnb
      @aughtrnb Před 3 lety +1

      @@antiherobc Just for the record, I have used my 5/10 Freeriders for 5 years now. The bottoms are shot. Had a local shop re-glue the sole twice as they've finally reached their end....at least the soles. Stinks b/c the entire shoe is still intact with great support and basically waterproof. If I could find a new sole to glue on, I would. I can't speak to the newer updated versions, but the original non-adidas Freeriders were amazing. And I ride 3-5 days a week for the past 5 years. I switch between my Vans and my Freeriders...but the Freeriders truly have a stiffer sole/outer material...your foot doesn't bend around the pedal like Vans or other non-flat pedal shoes do. Just my 2 cents. :)
