- Which Five Ten Freerider shoe is right for you?
I breakdown the difference and give my recommendation for which shoe might be right for your riding needs.

Thanks for the great video, and also the REI tip!!
Welcome! ✌🏼🤟🏼
Great review! Good work! I think you are doing very good!
Thanks! Appreciate the kind words! ✌🏼🤟🏼
Thanks for a great comparison review! I am currently in the market for these and had my eye on the Pro's. I will be ordering a pair soon!
Glad it could help!
If you haven’t ordered them yet, check out my latest review on the Afton Cooper. You may like them better. ✌🏼🤟🏼
@@AdamMock thanks! I will check it out.
I have the canvas freerider, and yes - its incredibly comfortable, and the pedal feel is outstanding - its almost as if I can curl my toes and grip the sides of my pedals. Ventilation is great for a fiveten - if you spread your toes, you can feel the breeze between your toes. However, there are some considerations - the toe box will not protect your toe from big impacts from the top - there's no toe reinforcement. Also, if you get the soaked, they'll stay wet for two days before drying out. Lastly, the REI tip is how I zeroed in on my freerider sizing. I got mine true to size only because I hate heel lift and can live with my toes being close to the front. If you have wider feet you'll love the Freerider - it has a room toe box, but the shoe isn't 'loose'. And yes, I cut my laces down and knotted the ends
All great points Scott! Glad you zeroed in on your size. Gotta stay comfortable out there! ✌🏼🤟🏼
+1 Informative comparison and yeah, I'd also like to see more colors available to all foot sizes, too.
Thank you! ✌🏼🤟🏼
Thanks Adam!
Welcome! ✌🏼🤟🏼
Just picked up the Freerider Pros for $75. Thanks for the review!
Nice! ✌🏼🤟🏼
A great review, Adam thank you. Before watching your video, I did just what you said, coincidentally, and I ordered three different pair from REI. Two colors of the standard, and one pair of the pro. I’m really anxious to get a feel of each one. Then I’m gonna pick my favorite and then, compare that one with Ride Concepts, Vice model, then make my final determination. Again, thank you.
Glad it could help! I’m curious to hear which one you’ll end up choosing! ✌🏼🤟🏼
Thanks for the review! REI is having a big sale. I love my standard for chill rides, but I need more shock protection for gnarly rides if i choose not to clip in. So I'll try a Pro this time 🤙
Glads you liked it! You may also want to check out my review on the Afton Cooper. Great shock protection and it’s a mid cut. Great shoe! ✌🏼🤟🏼
Agreed 100 percent on those color choices!
🙏🏼✌🏼🤟🏼
Best review yet-no BS!
Thank you! ✌🏼🤟🏼
Thanks for all of that info! I see some Freerider Pros in my future! 😂
Get it! Your toes will thank you one day. ✌🏼🤟🏼
liking for the purple shoe comment.
great vid as well.
Appreciate it Bill! ✌🏼🤟🏼
Getting the pros next. I’ve had two toe bangs due to rock strikes.
Thankfully it never happened to me when I used the standard Freeriders. Once I got the Pros . . . BAM! Toe strike city. ✌🏼🤟🏼
Have you ever felt like the pro chatters/jumps around on the pedal more because of the stiffer sole? Could just be me because I’m on a hardtail.
Hey Blake, I haven’t noticed that. It feels pretty planted for me. Maybe it’s because the stiffer sole isn’t as easy to curve/conform to the pedal?
I run the standard free riders, I’d like the extra protection of the free ride pro but you know my 90° hammer toe. Not sure if that upper toebox area is flexible enough🤷♂️ Looks like I might need to go to REI to see how it feels🤔
REI is such a great place to buy and try! ✌🏼🤟🏼
Hello, could you tell me if the size of the shoes is wide like the adidas Terrex, if so would you recommend buying half a size smaller, thank you and regards
Just bought the Pro at REI with my 20% discount!
Brilliant! Let me know what you think once you’ve had some time in them!✌🏼🤟🏼
That’s funny how you mentioned pink shoes… I was looking for pink shoes because I’m going a full bmx racing uniform black and pink. I decided on black five ten pros and I’ll add pink shoe laces onto them.
That’s a great idea! ✌🏼🤟🏼
Love the Freeriders. They act like sponges in the UK winter though.Going to try the pro's.
Let me what you think of the Pros. I believe Five Ten also make waterproof Trail Riders. ✌🏼🤟🏼
Really late reply, but you can use a shoe repair glue called "shoe goo" to seal over the vent hole on the pros to help seal out water. Works great if your more concerned with water proofing than venting.
You said the pros are narrower yet it was the standard ones that you had to go up a size in. Did you mean the other way round? Which ones for wider feet?
Sorry for the confusion.
The Freeriders feel wider, but shorter. So I went up a size in them. The Pros feel more narrow. The sizing on the length of the Pros actually feel a bit more true. When I first tried on the standard Freeriders in my size, I could feel my toe touch the tip of the shoe. I didn't feel that with the Pros. Some people may benefit from sizing up on either shoe to just get a bit more length in the toe box.
For wider feet, the standard Freeriders have more width. Keep in mind this is when I first bought them a few years ago so sizing may have changed. But if it's the same, the Freeriders feel a bit wider. ✌🏼🤟🏼
Thank you! Your comments and visuals regarding the difference in sole stiffness told me what I needed to know. Neither Adidas, the retailers, or any of the "expert review" sites provided that information. I currently have the regular Freeriders, and can feel the pedal pins right through the soles. It's okay for a short ride, but for rides of over 2 hours, it gets painful. Now my only concern is that the Pros might be too small- I already wear the largest size made in the regulars (15's), and if the Pros are any smaller, then it'll be a no-go for me.
Glad I could help! I hope you're able to find the right fit for the Pros! ✌🏼🤟🏼
Does anyone have an opinion on the free rider pros vs free rider pro canvas?
Im just getting into these shoes and I have an option of both that are pro models but one is that synthetic material and the other is canvas. Sounds like canvas wasn’t an option in the pro before?
Kenny, I believe the canvas Pro is the Primeblu which is made with recycled materials. I have the Primeblu and I actually liked them a little better than the more leathery standard Pro material.
The fit of the Primeblu seemed slightly wider to me. I don’t know if that’s actually true but that’s how it felt.
The Primeblu also seemed to be incredibly durable.
I love my freeriders. I banged my foot into a little tree stump while going around a corner and I didn't feel that hit at all.
Nice! Always great when your toes are protected! When it’s time for new shoes, check out my review on the Afton Cooper. Blew my mind! ✌🏼🤟🏼
How long do they last?
Depends on how often you ride, how hard you ride, and what the conditions are. But, I've used both of mine for about year each and they still have a lot of life in them. ✌🏼🤟🏼
I just want these because they look good i havent used my bike in more than a year. But if the ocasion rises or i start going on a streak again they will be there, im taking the non pros.
They're a solid shoe on or off the trails! Check out my review on the Afton Coopers too, so comfortable! ✌🏼🤟🏼
Hey!! Thx for the videos. What about FIVE TEN SLEUTH DLX vs FIVE TEN free rider pro ????
Great idea! I’d imagine you’re giving up some protection on the Sleuth but gaining comfort from the suede upper. ✌🏼🤟🏼
Thx for answered and all
Videos. Really helpful... I would like to get a shoes good for trials and DH (will try to learn more about it this year) so I really don’t know which one is better for that..... sleuth or free rider pro?
@@alejandravivas801 My opinion would be the Freerider Pro. Especially for downhill. You’ll want something that is durable for possible rock strikes and if you go through puddles. The suede on the Sleuth looks great, but probably wouldn’t give you the best protection on the DH.
do they sell wide version?
Not that I know of. The Freeriders seem a little wider to me than the Freerider Pros, but I would try them both on first if you're able. ✌🏼🤟🏼
My pedals have spikes on them will either of these work.
If you’re using flat pedals with the screws (spikes) then either of these will work great! ✌🏼🤟🏼
Thanks
I would be careful buying the new Prime Blue Freerider Pro's, something has changed in the soul, and they don't grip no where near as good as the old Five Ten Pro's, i would almost call them dangerous, as my foot would slip of the pedal so often, mine got sent back, and i still use my old version's and i have some new specialized 2F0 on the way to try.
I had read about that in a review someone posted. I bought my Prime Blue at REI so I could return them if I found the sole to not have as much grip.
So far, I love the Prime Blue and when I compared to sole to my Pros and classic Freeriders, I can't tell a difference in grip.
I've also had a chance to take them down some gnarlier trails in my area and haven't had a pedal slip yet.
I'm sorry to hear you had a different experience. I wonder if the sole issue was corrected in a running change? ✌🏼🤟🏼
@@AdamMock i am hoping it was just a bad batch, as i also found lots of complaints in forums. one of the slips i had caused me to crash during a jump, 3 weeks in hospital with pelvis fractures and internal bleeding, many months later i got back to riding, and put on the same shoes, they still kept slipping, serviced my pedals and changed pins, still slipped, so stuck my old five tens back on, and back to being lovely and grippy again.
for now i will just move brands, not really because of the issue with the soul i had, it was more the way customer service dealt with it after.
@@jonibz1456 Oh man, I’m so sorry! That sounds awful. Glad to hear you’re healed up. And yeah, customer service can make or break a brand. Stay safe!
@@AdamMock just had my first ride on the 2FO's Dh. and yes i can defiantly say they grip, it will take a few more ride for a proper compare, but i am seriously impressed so far, the fit is very similar to the sizing of my old 2016 free rider pros, and the soul is pretty hard.
@@jonibz1456 Good to know! They look like great shoes.
I'll never wear those shoes again or shoes ever messed up my ankle riding down the slide on him because they wouldn't stick to the slide and have any traction and I put on a pair of sneakers after I fell 15 ft and put my ankle up and they stuck on they had way more grip
After years of rising them I am ditching the crappy Adidas version. Switched to Etnies and never looked back
Etnies makes some great shoes! Glad you found something that works for you. ✌🏼🤟🏼
I heard the Pro’s have a shank
You may be right. Hard to tell by bending them but they definitely have a stiffer sole than the standard Freerider. ✌🏼🤟🏼
Why is there only 7 likes 👍🏻 on this vid?
I don’t know, but I’m grateful for them! ✌🏼🤟🏼
Ahahha i've green one too!! MAKITA COLOUR…not gender dedicated.. ;)
Nice! ✌🏼🤟🏼
i got freerider pro for 90 dollars brand new
Nice! ✌🏼🤟🏼
Those are leather and mesh. Not canvas.
Appreciate the correction! ✌🏼🤟🏼
I'm a pink guy as well
Unite! ✊🏼✌🏼🤟🏼
Yeah! Stop gendering colors! 💜
I want my purple and pinks! ✌🏼🤟🏼
