    As an ex-Decathlon employee who worked in the cycling department and was about to become a product trainer within the Uk, I have nothing bad to say about the the UK product trainers. However most store managers dont care about the cycling departments as they dont make enough money. So they dont send staff on training due to the cost of it, I had to force them to send me on the trainings. A very small amount of staff have ever seen electronic groupsets. Most members of the workshops wouldn't know how to cut the brake hoses and rebleed brakes. Decathlon Uk has a long way to go to be able to break into the high end bike market and I saw the company loose some very good members of staff due to store managers having what I can only call ego battles. I hope decathlon changes but it will need to get rid of individuals who dont see the bigger picture

    On the topic of the EDR bike. The sizing is a bit off, but overall it is a truly great bike (I have the EDR 105 CF Disk - carbon frame on full hydraulic 105 groupset). The issue is the availability and warranty claims. Mine developed a slight issue which might be paint only and carbon related, the customer support/service said that it is good for a replacement - awesome, couldn't be happier. I left the bike with them at the beginning of December, they ordered a new frameset. It arrived three weeks later - but also had a flaw, so they ordered another one, that was supposed to arrive mid-January. Then it was moved to the end of January. Then to the end of February. Then March. When the March date came, the person from the bike service decided that it might be easier to try and get a complete new bike - I was very happy. It was supposed to arrive at the end of February, but it is now moved to mid-April. The website also says it's not available.
    What good is the fact that the bike is great (it's a bit long and racey, but got me comfortably through a 280km day in the saddle no problem, and I am not a 20yo 60kg athlete, far from it) if it is not available and nobody can say when it actually will be?
    This is really bad, as I think Van Rysel is one of the best value bike equipment available...only it doesn't practically exist (in terms of bikes)...

Take the ultegra version out and put better those wheels into the 105 and complete dominate the comp in that range of price... I own the EDR AF 105 and it's a nice bike. The handlebar though is too wide and has a too big reach+drop for me at least. So some bike fitting might be required by most buyers.

    Van Rysel NCR CF SRAM Rival review please? 😅😅
    Even though this is supposed to be endurance it's the longest and lowest ever frame I've seen in this category and sometimes even racier than some race bikes

    Being 200cm tall with a 96cm inseam the XL is still I little to small for me. Wanting to spend around ¢4500, I still have to go Aeroad SLX rival/105di2 in XXL.

    It's a very good looking bike. It ticks all the boxes if you compare with the big manufactures. My only complaint is that some of their bikes are spec with hookless carbon wheels. I think that's a bad move from Decathlon. I used to ride Zipp 404 hookless road, until I started seeing some big failures in the pro tour. I felt anxious riding it on descents. I kept waiting for the tire to blow off the rim. It's silly I know. However, the thought of having a failure was always in the back of my mind. I have now transferred the 404s to my gravel bike. It looks really bad 😂, but I dont think about it any more.

    Van Rysel's current EDRs have a tiny 28 mm tyre clearance, low stack, and oversized handlebars with ridiculous 90 mm reach and 140 drop. I'm hoping new version of the frame (will there be one?) is better.

    I guess the worry for some would be how well is it going to be put together, ultimately Decathlon need to sell a functionally safe bike and I'd like to think that the current mechanics would provide that service.
    I'd also like to hope that the type of racer this bike would appeal to would consider taking it to a local specialist bike shop for either a full service or tune up / bike fit service for piece of mind. Say you factor in £200 or £250 for a major service at a highly qualified LBS then the bike you get is still great value, you also support the local shop as well as a major sports chain.

    From perusing the geo charts (which are in the product photo galleries for anyone who struggles to find it) it seems like the endurance geo is actually longer (+2mm reach, same stack) for the size L. Might be a shorter stem, but I don't know if Jimmy is going to be satisfied with that. Might be better in the smaller sizes?

  • @Cyrenetes
    @Cyrenetes Před 3 měsíci

    I feel that the advice of looking at top tube length may be more misleading than helpful. My medium somewhat aggressive road bike has a 20mm shorter "effective top tube" than my medium gravel bike, but frame reach is actually 1cm more. Also the amount of stem spacers each manufacturer ships with their bikes seems to have much more effect on stack than whatever the geometry chart says.

    This bikes look great. I was debating buying a chinese frame (maybe elves) and put higher end components on it instead of a entry level mainstream brand with entry level components. But if the new endurance bike is as good as this new racing bike I might choose van rysel instead. They might kill 2 markets in one go. What a power moove by Decathlon

      I was ready to pull the trigger on a FCR Ultegra DI2 for 4200€ but they was always sold out. Got myself a Elves Falath Evo frameset/wheels/handlebar for 1700€ instead. Paired it with a 105 DI2, some GP5000 ST R and Assioma Power meter pedals. For a Total of 3500€. Have over 1000km on it since November and still lovin it.

    Smallest size still has 378.3 reach, which is basically Tarmac size 50ish. A lot of smaller women riders are going to struggle with that. Tarmac has a size 44 for that exact reason.
