This is by far the best show in German public TV. Pure truth disguised as comedy.

@@JohnDoe-xz1mwYou can follow the Bundestag live - it's also a comedy 😅 it has fixed streaming times - it's just about making the other person as low as possible so that theyself are the smallest pile of SH... In the palace 😅🤦🏻‍♀️ It's just sad that this represents bitter reality... But if you watch this, you'll understand why we absolutely need satire about our politics 🤣 If we couldn’t laugh about it, we would have to despair

The "office shredder" part is especially "funny" for germans, because whenever you got high crime here from political parties, police officers, secret agents and alike, all the documents about it tend to be gone or are unreadable.

If you want to see the top-level of german satire, I recommend Volker Pispers explains the USA (english subtitles available). Many reaction youtuber split it into parts, because it goes 45 minutes, but it is really good.

The translation is crap though and does a bad job of explaining the German politicians to an audience that have never heard of them or can't know who they are and what they stand for at the drop of a hat. Yes, I know it's easy to criticize. Facts are the facts though. And Pispers relies on his audience being knowledgeable about national and international politics from quite a few years ago..

@@JaniceHopewell the video itself is already over 20years old… remember: he called the head of state „Schroeder“
… that was the head of state prior to Angela Merkel and she was over 16 years the head of states… she retired at the end of 2021
Back when Volker Pisper went on stage with this program, most of the german politicians were still around or at least present in the audiences memory…
But I have to admit as a german… the subtitles are not 100% identical or explain who the german politicians were…

Well, there is German satire in a „politisches Kabarett“-Tradition that began to some degree even before the First World War, and that humor indeed has a certain intellectual / academic level. I would count „heute show“ and „Die Anstalt“ among the current examples of this tradition. However, there is also rather basic humor, more along the lines of farcical comedy, and that can be daft, and targeting a more… „inebriated“… audience. (I can’t really give you examples for this, because I find that sort of humor rather off-putting.)

    • @Rafaela_S.
      @Rafaela_S. Před měsícem +5

Also the germans got a lot of humor that is based on the ambiguity of a lot of german words, which is not translateable into other languages, since they use two different words, where the germans have one word for both.

nice to see you guys having fun with Die Anstalt. Little remark to the pronunciation: the german 'die' sounds like the american Dee (as abreviation for Deborah). You will also find the double e (ee) in english in reef. So the german ie sounds like the ee in english (eel, feel, reef). The german vocal i alone is the same but shorter, not so stretched. :)

Why do you pronounce the German article "die" so incorrectly? It has nothing to do with to die. The ie is a long i. English has a very similar i pronunciation when the article the is followed by a vowel. Like in The institution. Or do you say: die Institution?

Germans have a great sense of humor, but our current stand-up comedians are sooo bad.
The US and UK comedians are way way better IMO. like
    -Louis C.K.
    -Bill Burr
    -Dave Chappelle
    -Rowan Atkinson
    -John Cleese
    -Jimmy Carr
    -Ricky Gervais
    are some of my favorites.
