Us Germans love our fresh bread. We don't usually eat the soft, squishy stuff that is sold in many English-speaking countries. You know, the stuff that you can compress to about 5% of its original volume and that then expands again. We have lots of bakeries and every single German I have met while living abroad (in the NL and UK) confirmed the first thing they missed was "proper bread". Also interesting: On Sundays pretty much all shops are closed (exceptions being petrol stations). Bakeries are also allowed to open Sunday mornings because... well, we love fresh bread every day.

Curry ketchup is fantastic with BBQ. It's literally tomato ketchup with additional herbs and curry - tastes absolutely wonderful. It's a little spicy. You would definitely love it. Stinky cheese really smells ... "intense" - but it tastes sooo good, it's well worth the smell. Of course we don't use gallons, we are a civilized country. And of course our food is safe to eat. That can only come from an American. And we use Tetra Pak for many beverages. Because it's better for the environment than plastic and it can be packed more efficiently. Our milk is usually UHT (ultra-high-temperature pasteurization) so it lasts for a long time without the need for refrigeration. It's basically long-life milk that has pretty much the same nutrients as fresh milk, but it's "cleaner". I buy my eggs from a local farm and yes, 10 is the usual package size. There are also other package sizes like 6 or 12, but 10 is the norm. Because we're metric 😉 Well if you only want 1 bottle (or can't afford a whole pack) why shouldn't you be allowed to buy a single bottle? But it can be really annoying, especially when different people open different packs to take one bottle each. For alcohol the ID is checked at the checkout (if you look young). But you can buy beer and wine/sparkling wine at the age of 16, and everything else at 18. Rollmpos (the rolled up herring in a jar) tastes really great. It is very well pickled and tastes especially good on a fresh bread roll (add onions for your taste).

The roofs of the houses are not painted brown. Its because the roof tiles are made of some kind of terracotta and these are the most common and affordable roof tiles which are lasting very long. So Germans like to choose the best balance of quality and costs.

2:09 Curry Ketchup is tomato ketchup mixed with „curry“ spices, which in Germany means: primarily curcuma, but quite often also other spices like mustard seed etc. One curry powder spice mix widely available contains: Curcuma, cumin, coriander, fenugreek, parsley, chili, garlic, fennel, and unspecified „spices“ (probably just residue from other spice powders produced by that particular company), another rather common one lists curcuma, cumin, curry leaf, coriander, cayenne, nutmeg as ingredients. There are even German companies offering a broad variety of curry powder mixes, like one offering English Curry, Madras Curry, Thai Curry, Green Curry and their own company’s mix (which for some reasons contains cinnamon).

You can return the single-User PET plastic bottles at every deposit return machine, due to the laws - but not always the glass bottles.

The milk they talk about is heated up under pressure to kill germs and then sealed airtight. The germs in the milk are dead and new germs can not come into the milk. That's why it stays fresh unrefrigerated. We have fresh milk too of corse and fresh milk should be and is refrigerated 😊. Still there are no additives in the uncooled milk.😊

I'm from Germany. Firstly, it's fun to watch your reactions. The milk can be left outside in the supermarket because it has been homogenized beforehand, i.e. it has been heated to a high temperature. The carton also consists of several layers of different materials, which make it difficult for bacteria to penetrate the milk. As soon as the milk has been opened you should put it in the fridge.

Some cheeses stink terrible but they don't really taste like they smell. The taste is most times pretty pleasant.😊

Well, the Anthem part is plain wrong. Even though it is true that it’s not in the official Anthem anymore, it’s not forbidden. It’s still Part of „Das Lied der Deutschen“. I find it embarrassing and shameful that Nazis miss used part of the Anthem to suggest ‚Deutschland, Deutschland über alles, über alles auf der Welt‘ would mean Germany would stay above every other nation or be superior. The real meaning and context comes from the history in which Germany was heavily divided in very small regions, all doing what they wanted. The desire to unite all the small parts into one Germany is written in this removed part. Instead of educating people about the abuse of of those words by the Nazis it was just removed

the the rubber in winter tyres is a bit 'softer' than the regular ones at cold temperatures and created more grip with a bulky, edgy sole. It wears down faster under summer temps, creates more resistance to rolling (friction), thus cost more fuel per 100 km and mostly those tyres aren't suitable for speeds >160 km/h. Oh, ... and under summer conditions the distance you need to for your car to stop is worse (longer) than with the regular ones .... back in the 70's we even had 'spikes' in the winter tyres which even gave grip on ice .... but wore the streets down extremely fast ...

It is very very unlikely you will ever see a bear in the wild in Germany. We do have wolfs spread all over the country now but even they are rather rare to see.

Hahahahaha. I agree with the long words, they're second nature to me since I'm German, but sometimes it gets a bit too wild. About the mattresses, we have connected beds and mattresses, it's just that having them separate allows for finer adjustment for sleeping quality due to mattress thickness, or texture, etc. You miss out on cuddling in the middle but I don't think the gap has ever stopped anyone from sleeping WITH one another.

It may sound strange, but "free water" is not necessary in Germany. You can get water very cheaply in any supermarket. And: you can simply drink water from the tap/crane in Germany. In Germany, tap water is always good drinking water because there are strict regulations. (Exceptions prove the rule).
