The headscarf ban is probably the stupidest thing that has ever happened in Germany. Especially considering that 40 to 50 years ago almost every (older) woman in Germany wore a headscarf and it only later fell victim to fashion.

Not really. Old german women wore a Kopftuch mostly only for protecting hair from dirt.

Yours would be called "Turban" same as turban. P.S. was actually not a Nazi flag, but a flag from the "German Empire" (until end of WW1). But used by right-wing people often since the Nazi flag is forbidden in Germany.

Hi, German here. 😎 We call your head dress also a Turban, but pronounce it very german. Most people will associate this thing with the orient in whole and will not know about the meaning in your religion. Also they will not now anything about different styles/sorts of trubans (me neither). The flag in the comedy is a German flag from before 1921 and its called Reichskriegsflagge (Reich = in this case means empire, Krieg = war, Flagge = flag) and it was used for the former army and also in the NS regime. As I know today it stands for Germany in its old borders before the end of ww2 and therefore is really problematic.
The place where this scene plays is a shop for army related goods like military clothes and military look alike clothes. The name „Wehrsport Ost-Berlin" means paramilitary sports east Berlin and this is not by accident. In the east of Germany, former GDR the Nazi heritage never was a theme like in the west and it was not worked on like in the west to educate people. The Socialist Party of the GDR in fact itself a dictatorship just pointed out the west toi be the enemy and the Nazis and acted as if east Germany never belonged to the whole part and as if all former Nazis went to the west. former East Germany has many problems with Nazi minded people nowadays and is struggeling with hostility against foreigners with different religions and colour of skin.
The law it referred to is an European law that can be seen very controverse. ->> www-zeit-de.translate.goog/arbeit/2021-07/eugh-europaeischer-gerichtshof-urteil-kopftuchverbot-arbeitsplatz?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=de&_x_tr_pto=wapp
The military boots she sells in the shop are the same boots as in our army, but they have white shoelace which is a typical thing amongst Neo-Nazis to show their mindset.

We call it Turban in German as well. But many people here wouldn't know that you are an Indian Sikh, because they associate a Turban with Muslims from Turkey and the Middle East.

I think Turban is very commonly known and it's somewhat associated with Oriental Tales like Aladdin (the Disney version).
We have ~a dozen Sikh wearing Turban in our company here in Germany. Most of them in Leadership positions, because they studied in Germany, got a job after finishing their degree and stayed. Two of them I am working very closely with and one of them is my direct report. Excellent guy, now starting to build a house here, which I am quite happy about, because it shows me that he seems to like it here. And as his Manager I also like it, because it tells me there is little attrition risk 😀

The "flag" was neither the Nazi flag, nor the current German flag. I think it is associated with the time before the 1930's, but I'm sure someone from Germany can give a clearer picture. A turban is called a tulband in Dutch. If you search for tulband you might find something to eat as well ;o).

German here: You're right, it's not a Nazi flag. It's called the Reichskriegsflagge (Imperial War Flag), as they said in the video. It was the official war flag for the German navy and later for the German military as a whole during the time of the German Empire, so it's associated with the military (perfect for that army shop) and the empire. But of course you could use it in a different context (as with most things) and there are many people on the extreme right (like Neo-Nazis) who really like the German Empire (which was before the Nazi time).

    • @kohlenstoffeinheit5298
      @kohlenstoffeinheit5298 Před 28 dny +2

@@mariebeth The Reichskriegsflagge was used from 1867 to 1921 in three versions with slight changes. The one shown in the video seems to be the second version 1892-1903. These flags are oftenly also associated with Reichsbürgern (Imperial citizens), which don't wanna accept the Federal Republic of Germany, but instead still believe to be citizens of the old German Empire. Usually they are located on the polically far right and are oftenly also preppers and weapon hoarders (but not every prepper is a Reichsbürger). I guess they chose this flag because the swastika flag, which is the actual nazi flag, is forbidden by law in Germany.
It's quite interesting that the swastika is a symbol of luck in India, so keep that in mind, if you ever travel to Germany ;)

the reichskriegsflagge is not a nazi flag. but because the real nazi flag with the swastika is forbidden in germany the neo nazis use the reichskriegsflagge as replacement.

this flag is the Reich war flag. The flag of the German Empire was in use by the military, especially by the Navy, after the abdication of the Kaiser until the beginning of the Nazi era, as they rejected the Republic and were very loyal to the Kaiser.

      Wrong,
1st it is Flagge not a Fahne. A Fahne is something you carry, a Flagge is somehing that you hoist up.
These piece of cloth come from naval warfare. They were hoisted up on ships, so they are Flaggen.
2nd It is a Reichkriegsflagge, Germany had nine different versions between 1848 and 1945.
But it is one from the time of Gewrman emporer, that is true.

@@helloweener2007 what ever.
