The damage to the S. S. Minnow was more than just a two-foot hole in the boat. Gilligan turned the whole boat into dust. In an early episode Mary Anne was making pancakes and Gilligan found tree sap for syrup that tasted sweet, but it turned out to make a better glue. So, the Skipper and the Professor coated the boat with it, but when it dried boards sprang off and crumbled. Gilligan only managed to save the steering wheel.
Yes, the pilot was the only episode where the Skipper was identified as "Jonas Grumby" and the Professor as "Roy Hinckley". Their real names were never mentioned again.
There's one episode ... I think it's the one with Eva (or was it Zsa Zsa) Gabor .... Mr. Howell introduces The Professor (to Gabor) as 'Professor Hartley', and Russell Johnson quickly corrects him by saying, 'Hinkley!' ......
Alan Hale (Skipper) envisioned the Skipper/Gilligan roles as comedian duo Laurel & Hardy. In numerous scenes you can see the Skipper mimick famed Oliver Hardy to perfection. Brilliant move on Alan Hales part.
When Gilligan wakes up and hears the Skipper shouting for him, he thinks the Skipper has fallen overboard and, having no idea that they're up on the beach, jumps off the boat after him, only to land face downwards on the beach.
Oh Yes for Which it was Season 1. Episode 8 : Goodbye Island : The Only Episode The Professor (Russell Johnson) Engineered to have The Hole Patched On The S.S. Minnow...
Gilligan & the Skipper were lucky that the passengers didn‘t yell at them right after they woke up and saw the Minnow‘s been wrecked by the storm they were caught in.
Well in episode 2 they all have to wear the Howell's clothes because the rest of them only have one pair and they're drying. Gilligan then wears each person's clothes and stands in front of the fire to dry them (starting with Ginger's dress). He finally wears the skippers clothes and burns his pants in the fire. Yet miraculously they're fine in the next scene and ever after......
Interesting when the Skipper and Gilligan awoke to find themselves beached on the island is the same as the opening for the original lost pilot episode.
That's because they used the same section of film from the pilot episode. They recycled different sections of the pilot episode in a number of episodes during Season 1.
How I recall when I first saw this very episode in its entirety and even when first heard of the Skipper's Name as Jonas Grumby. Also hearing The other cataways being named too.
If the US Navy heard of the S.S. Minnow lost at sea, would they try to find the passengers and crew, whether any of the Skipper‘s Navy buddies are in the service or not at that time?
I think that was part of the magic of the show. You had to suspend disbelief on a regular basis in so many ways lol. The radio whose batteries never run out. And look at the way they were always destroying their clothes, and always had more. Even though they only packed for a 3 hour tour. I mean they could have easily got around this. For instance explained they were in some kind of a bermuda triangle type situation and discarded clothes and other items and supplies from wrecked ships were regularly washing up on shore. But they never did.
If the Howells were so rich, what were they doing on a '3-hour tour' with such a blue collar bunch of people? Why weren't they out on their own yacht?? I always wondered about that.

What a incredible intro just introducing the characters within minutes.

I love gilligans island
They dont make shows like these classics Gilligan's island anymore
When Gilligan wakes up and hears the Skipper shouting for him, he thinks the Skipper has fallen overboard and, having no idea that they're up on the beach, jumps off the boat after him, only to land face downwards on the beach.
It was a miracle that the Minnow didn't get holes before she got beached with the passengers and crew surviving the shipwreck.
Oh Yes for Which it was Season 1. Episode 8 : Goodbye Island : The Only Episode The Professor (Russell Johnson) Engineered to have The Hole Patched On The S.S. Minnow...
Who would guess that they would be stuck there for 15 years...
Longer than 7other castaways in another episode rescued
Classic 1964 - 1966 📺📺📺📺📺
Gilligan & the Skipper were lucky that the passengers didn‘t yell at them right after they woke up and saw the Minnow‘s been wrecked by the storm they were caught in.
...the writers knew that but wouldn't allow for it...😜
The real question is why did the passengers all need suitcases for a three-hour tour?
...in the words of someone who knows, "IT'S JUST A TV SHOW!!!" ...you're welcome....

0:52 The way the Skipper was glaring at him, Gilligan did not need to be told twice to shut up!
As far as I know, this episode and the one where they try to patch up the SS Minnow were the only ones filmed on location.
I love this show
Wasnt there another original pilot episode that harry Belafonte sang theme song to Gilligan's island
How I recall when I first saw this very episode in its entirety and even when first heard of the Skipper's Name as Jonas Grumby. Also hearing The other cataways being named too.
I was wondering what the Skipper's real name was.
That's absolutely true! I never once remember their names after this

in the song howell is a millionaire but gets bumped to billionaire. well done!
Does anybody notice that they used a different boat for the S.S. Minnow?
This was the second pilot original one had Calypso music intro of harry belafonte
