I am glad that they are being reissued for people who missed out, but I feel as if we are being teased on what they could have been. (Actual g1 figures)
I would have felt like they were teasing if these had been straight reissues. I much prefer an updated, higher quality new version of the Headmasters than a reissue of very dated toys from the 80s. They look G1 accurate, but are better in all regards.
*One detail that I like is the fact that they even used the throwback Hasbro logo on both the packaging and the instructions.*

I never found the Walgreens version but this will be great to have regardless. Also he is Dale Gribble in my headcanon

His alternate mode looks like a combination of a car and a jet

Personally the head creeps me out I’m just more used to his IDW face plate look and it’s creepy for me when brainstorm has a mouth

I have both versions. Got this one to complete the set. Yeah, mouth shield is much better though.
It was revealed in the issue "slaughterhouse Part 2: The Road Not Taken" that Brainstorm had a mouth underneath his faceplate.
In that same issue, it was also that revealed that Brainstorm was a spy sent by the 'Cons.
After watching your video on this figure I have purchased and added this one to my collection keep up the the great work 😁🍻

i didnt think that i was going to add this figure to my collection but i saw it and a couple others at Wal Mart and decided to give it a shot. i have to say i like it way better than the original Hasbro release. i know they are going for toy accuracy in this and the head sculpt is great but i do wish he had the mouth plated face like the cartoon with the over all head shape it has now. the original release has a weird mouth plated head. good review. you put these on my radar to grab so thank you for that =)

The Rebirth is so fresh in my mind from childhood that I can never get used to the Japanese look for Brainstorm. It is G1-US for me.
It's a heavily remolded Blur.

They really need to Re-Release Earthrise Ratchet, Iron Hide, Coneheads, Skywarp, Thundercracker like this.
I missed this figure on the first go round. Hopefully my stores stock him.

I like how the car mode arcee has is the base for a lot of the vehicle modes of other characters including this guy

Great review. I think this was the Takara release originally. The Walgreens exclusive in the US was the one with the faceplate.

Hi I just brought brainstorm just recently and I think he is very awesome. I do like the colour on brainstorm and I like his transformations.

I just love researching cool things about transformers
I saw four different Headmaster figures for $7.99 at a Ross store today in 2023 and this video is 2 years old.
I'm good with both my Walgreens and Takaratomy versions and I have the LG-EX head set so I have an American head that matches the Takaratomy colors. Also both have Autobot insignias on the backs of the seats which I like, unlike this Walmart exclusive.
My favorite Headmaster.
Brainstorm had 2 different face designs: his G1 face had a mouthplate, his face in The Headmasters series had an actual mouth (this reissue of Brainstorm is based on his appearance in The Headmasters sequel series instead of the G1 cartoon)
In IDW, Brainstorm had a retractable mouthplate
Great review. This does look like a fun figure! However because of my love for IDW I actually do prefer the headsculpt of the original hasbro version, with the mouth plate. Everything else looks like it was done much better on this figure.
Well, I have good news for you: I did some research on IDW Brainstorm, and it turns out that his mouthplate is retractable, meaning that he can choose to talk with or without a mouthplate
I wish that i could get this version of Brainstorm. I feel that some gap fillers for wing tips forearms and thighs would elevate the figure beyond his headmaster partners.
You have to remember that the Titan's Return heads were based on their appearance in the IDW comic books!
Of the Voyager-Class Thrilling 30th version is the best.
Except in the IDW comic books, the Headmasters like Brainstorm, Siren, Nightbeat, Hosehead, Hardhead, Highbrow, and Chromedome were anything but Headmasters.
Brainstorm has several different Faces / Color variants based on G1 Transformers Cartoon / G1 Toy / G1 Marvel Comics and the Japanese Headmasters Cartoon.

Brainstorm is my favourite Transformer and I have all the versions of this mold. The colour is finally perfect but I had to transplant the face of the Titan Force boxset Brainstorm to this one to finally have him look like the toy I had as a kid, with yellow eyes and a face plate. I'm incredibly nostalgic for the box but the changed face on the art does bother me.
Once I get enough money ima buy most the autobot reissues

I'm 51 years old. I definitely remember the G1 Brainstorm having a faceplate.
I'm aware that the Japanese version was open faced to coincide with their headmaster series
The G1 toy had a faceplate, the G1 US cartoon iteration had a faceplate, as far as I know, the iterations in IDW do as well. Only in the Japanese continuity, he didn't.

Great robot mode and colours but I always thought the 'spacecraft' mode was pretty weak - very gappy. Just as well he'd be displayed in robot mode.
Hey PvP! When you say G1 style do you mean the toyline or the cartoon? I know the 3 versions of these headmasters all have different aspects of both toyline and cartoon so its a bit confusing
Even worse, G1 US cartoon or Japanese Cartoon. Both had different show models. The US version had a faceplate, while the Japanese had a mouth, and even the body was different.
I had the original 1980s brainstorm I had the IDW brainstorm

At first I thought Brainstorm was going to get a new mold in this line.
But no... it's just teal Blurr with a disproportionate alt mode again
I´d prefer if he looked a bit more like the Lost Light version, mouth plate and all, but this is nice.

G1 brainstorm has a battle mask over his mouth similar to Optimus in season 4 of the g1 series
But his headmaster series one for the Japan exclusive he didn’t have the battle mask

Not G1, these are nothing but reissues of the Titan Master from a couple of years ago. And yes Brainstorm was one of them which had been a exclusive at Walgreens

It seems that these headmasters are real reason WeiJiang got torn into shreds, nont that lousy Iron Man KO ;). If Hasbro re-releases Highbrow, Skullcruncher and Wolfwire, it will be even more suspicious ;),
(yeah, I'm aware that WJ angered The Mouse which was very stupid thing to do, If they kept KO-ing solely Hastak toys, they'd be relatively safe since Hastak is/was known of ignoring existence of KOs)
I prefer the original with the faceplate tbh, its much closer to his g1 show design.
I got a question, if the mould is Titans return, then why are we calling this a retro reissue? Doesn't make sense to me.

I like this one’s colors they are great I love them but that face is really gross (in my opinion) so I’m gonna switch the head with the titans return one because I have it
I do prefer the TR head, as it was more cartoon accurate but it is cool to see that people are able to get a more toy accurate head

And next thing you know, Hasbro and TakaraTomy will recycle Studio Series G1 Jazz and give him his correct car mode number and his correct G1 toy-accurate paint scheme.
Unless they get the license from Porsche, they wont give him the correct number. They will probably give him a better colour scheme in a rerelease or an anniversary pack

No, Japan's series the Headmasters Brainstorm had a mouth, but the American cartoon version had a mouth plate

The Titans Return 2016 Walgreens version is both more G1 Accurate and more IDW accurate than this one by far, a face plate and resculpted head go a long way
The 2016 walgreens is good. The 2016 SDCC box set also has the same mold with faceplate and some other details. Also the details on the Walgreens are the best btw. I like the wing details, and the autobot symbol on the plate that forms the back of the seat. He is my favorite of the Autobots safe for Arcee, but I got too many Arcees...

It's hard for me to collect pre-WFC TF. They don't have the battle/worn look or detail like WFC TF. They look too clean. The face on this one looks too cartoony to my adult eyes. The packaging looks too simple to me. I keep the packaging and display them against my wall. These 'retro' packaging don't fit well and takes up a lot of space compared to the WFC ones. The WFC ones I have them with the side facing away from the wall. They're compact and looks great. These retro packing don't do anything for me. The figure again looks very plain to me. I know that's the look they're probably going for in the retro series. I'm just pointing out that it doesn't appeal to me. I've been spoiled by the WFC line. The WFC NF Soundwave I recently picked up (4 days ago from Walmart for $24.99; weighs in at 154 g with both tapes) is a joy to transform into a boom box. My eyes watered up at seeing the fully transformed boom box for the first time. I felt like a kid again. I love Laser Beak and Ravage in their robot mode. They're just pure bliss. Hasbro should make more TFs that transform into robotic creatures instead of 'flesh' creatures like Beast Wars. Allicon, Snapdragon, and Sky Lynx are a few examples. I don't yet own a WFC ER Sky Lynx ($79.99 is out of my price range for a single figure). I'll keep an eye out when he goes on sale (hopefully below $39.99). I agree with your point on paint versus sticker. I prefer paint over stickers. Paint just looks better in real world lighting to me. I never did get into TF Headmaster line as a kid. It's good Hasbro is re-releasing these for folks who missed them or don't want to pay scalpers exorbitant rate for them. Of course, nothing preventing scalpers from picking them up at $19.99 and flipping them for $899.99. I'm sure someone will mortgage their home to buy one at that price. It'll make no sense to me but folks will buy stuff that they don't have money for all the time. They end up paying interest to the credit card company because they can't afford to pay the full credit card charges. So if something costs like $19.99, they end up paying like $59.99 in the end because of the interest. What a waste of money. Could have used that interest to buy more figures! Anyway, great review! However, this figure is a pass for me.
