    Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on CZcams, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on CZcams. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on CZcams, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.
    If you enjoy this video and my reactions make sure you subscribe to the channel, like the video and comment down below which video you would like to see me react to next.

      I agree but it was great on more than one level. The sharp songs, Delp's incredible voice, the technical quality of the recording, everything. And when you think about it, no band could do that more than once.

      Yeah, I wonder if the massive success of this debut album and the fights with their label over their later albums is what led to Brad Delp's suicide decades later?

I hadn't even thought about them in years until I saw your comment. I'll have to get them out just to look at for a minute. I've got Scream Dream, A Magicians Birthday, and Candyo

    Tom Scholz was an MIT-grad and an engineer so he finessed this album to the nth degree. There are no weak tracks on it, it's almost perfect. A one-of-a-kind labor of love

    • @davestang5454
      @davestang5454 Před 6 měsíci

      He was working with Polaroid by day and doing the local club circuit around Boston with a few bands at night. This album was recorded in his basement with simple analogue recording equipment. Scholz had a hand in playing all the instruments and even figured out ways to use inferior guitars to his advantage in recording.

    To me Brad Delp was the sound of Boston. The group is iconic and it stands for itself. To me it was the best time to grow up. When people like you listen to the original group with the original lineup keeps it all alive. Rock will never die as long as poeple like you keep it alive.

    Brad Delp should get more praise, and recognition. He is awesome! I think people forget that Brad did the vocals and backup vocals on the albums. Brad was very talented, and one of the best singers. Sure Tom wrote most of the songs, however, Brad gave them life. Thanks for being on the Boston journey.

    The reason the guitar sounds like that is because Tom Schultz was also a genius when it came to electronic circuitry. He built his own effects pedal called a rockman and pretty soon everybody was using it.

    If you think the Grammy's have become a joke, remember that in 1976 Boston lost for Best New Artist to Starland Vocal Band and then the next year Foreigner lost for Best New Artist to Debbie Boone. And if you think the Rock and Roll Music Hall of Fame is a joke just remember that neither of them, Boston or Foreigner are in it.

    I think this is one of the reasons lead guitarist/keyboardist Tom Scholz brought in Barry Goudreau as a second lead guitarist (the other is "Foreplay / Long Time"). The dueling lead guitar solos in the bridge between the last two verses are amazing! R.I.P., Brad, you had a great voice.

  • @stevedahlberg8680

    Man what a joyful reaction. It was fascinating you experienced it just the way that a lot of us did, in my case first hearing them on the radio in 8th grade and then getting to go see them in 9th grade in a small indoor arena on their first tour; it was incredible.
    But from a musician standpoint, yeah it really even sounded super new at the time, and he took a whole bunch of different things that were already existing as effects, and he put them together in a new and very interesting way, even going so far as to modify and make his own effects at some point, but what he did for sure was combine an awful lot of compression/sustain with some really rich saturated distortion.
    And then 90% of it was recorded in his basement studio he had worked on for months and months while his buddies were out actually gigging. Apparently he missed playing so much, and they had been in various bands together before, that Brad would take a break from the studio and go basically back to join them onstage as guest appearances just so he could feel that live feeling again, and then go back into his basement studio. It's pretty amazing.
    I am so supremely happy that you decided to take on this iconic debut album, Shawn. I mean I really am excited. And right when this ended I almost wished that I could see the next one like right now. Laugh.

    One of the greatest and yet one of the most disappointing bands ever. Tom Scholtz was a brilliant engineer and knew how to get this unique soundscape from his recording sessions, but he felt the need to control every aspect of the process, and his work as an engineer somehow made the band take a back seat. He had Brad Delp, one of the most unique voices ever recorded and ended up with only three albums in their entire run. Eleven years, I think it was, from the first to the third album. Then Brad Delp died and they never got around to anything else. The three albums, of course, are brilliant. Beautifully mastered. And yet, after a while most of the material really turns out to be the same set of guitar hooks, some shifting keys, and Delp's voice.
