@@Shiny_Rayz I mean, super mario bros 3 and mario world look better than mario 64. He only said that a bee have more poly count than some regular ennemies in mario 64, it show how truly impressive the leap in console hardware was compared to ps3/ps4 or xbox 360/one. Some, gamecube, ps2, xbox and dreamcast games have higher poly count than on stronger hardware

    • @Shiny_Rayz
      @Shiny_Rayz Před 3 lety +13

@@Jfray252 I do see what you mean, but when stuff gets compared, you cannot really do it between 2D and 3D. At the times of 64 and Sunshine were being made, 2D of the pixel variant was mastered, so of course the mastered skill looks a lot better than the one you barely started learning about, especially considering the decades worth of skill outshines the handful months needed to learn to those 3D objects. And as much as I would like to argue about poly counts situation between older and new consoles, you are right in some situations. The reason I said it was crazy to show the fact at the time, higher poly count meant higher quality to the gaming industry at the earliest times. Now it seems not to be quality of the looks alone, but more factors, such as textures, realness, and story. But I do agree about the technological jump being huge for the time, but there is still more to come

Sunshine is a weird game to mess with because it’s simultaneously ahead of what was available pre-2002 and yet also rushed out to boost the GameCube’s sales. The cut content definitely implies that the game was supposed to be a lot bigger than how it ended up, but even just playing the game normally reveals a lot of inconsistencies. I’d love to know if there was originally a bigger setup for the Delfino flood and if E Gadd was supposed to have a role beyond just being mentioned.
That being said, it’s still impressive what Nintendo was able to pull off with limited hardware. Even when messing with the camera on my own it never occurred to me that Fludd’s spray was essentially 2D particles. A lot of the heatwave and reflective effects that were mentioned are actually done by projecting the view of a duplicate camera at a specific offset (explaining why it becomes buggy when the main camera is moved out of place). You can actually see some reflections glitch in the Switch version because it doesn’t appear that Nintendo adjusted the second camera to account for the 16:9 aspect ratio.

This in turn means it was planned to be used in some way at some point. this doesn't really tell us WHAT the plan was, it merely indicates that a plan existed.

Yes, the games themselves are a lot rarer, (My local shop _also_ has significantly more Saturn games than Gamecube ones) but they're also a lot cheaper due to the lack of demand. I bought a non players choice copy of Super Mario Sunshine for £22, which is almost a third of the average price of the NTSC version.

The shifting color at the bottom of the plant at 17:59 is likely an incorrect UV map. Typically, game objects have a UV map that are set up to place a texture on an object. For example, a piece of a UV map may show a 512 x 512 texture. However, the UV at the bottom of that plant is likely too small, so it's really only showing 1 pixel (or less, since UVs don't have to match pixel sizes). Fortunately it doesn't really matter because the player typically can't see that part of the plant.

Now it is replicated OVER the level, Since it is STILL PLACED Physicly under Mario, it doesn't Render, Altho the Lighting effect still does :) CHeers.

Theres a couple of things that weren't mentioned but I do find interesting.
In bianco hills in missions one and two if you look at the water that has a reflection of the windmill you can see the piranha plant head generator on the side of the windmill but only in the reflection. It was probably forgotten about and not caught but still interesting.
The M pictures you use to travel to gelato beach and ricco Harbour have the wrong details in them if you look long enough. The ricco Harbour one has a barely visible shot of the old pinna park design. The gelato beach one is easier to see. The sand bird building has columns which is not present in the final game.
If you look at ricco Harbour from bianco hills the helipad is nowhere to be seen and has a walkway in the shape of a square. Perhaps that's where gooper blooper would of been fought in a older build. Sticking with ricco Harbour if you look at the island found in delphino plaza from ricco Harbour it has a warp pipe on it instead of a basket.
Lastly when you finish the game a land on the island, pinna parks windmill is red in colour which also happens in the cutscene with mecha bowser rising.

Hey Shesez! there's another strange thing I found well playing Mario 3D all-stars, you can see this secret during the moment when Delfino Plaza is flooded. if you go over to the prison, bell tower and look inside the window of the cell you can see one of those manhole cover things. as far as I can tell it's only there during the flood and I don't think it actually works buts strange none the less.

the reason why developers are placing things under the map/out of bounds is that just spawning them into place without placing them in the world would need reading speed from the hard disc and some computing power. for a few things that might be okay but imagine spawning 200 enemies at once. especially on weak hardware that would decrease the performance of the game. this is called "pooling"

Fun Fact: KUG has a hitbox that shocks Mario, and you can actually get shocked by it by going out of bounds, this usually ends up killing Mario because it gives the game time to realize he's out of bounds, similarly, you can also speak to the out of bounds Toad which usually also ends up killing Mario, which brings up a glitch of Mario dying while talking to someone

Likely, the bottom of that gooey piranha plant is just a one-pixel wide portion of its UV map stretched across the whole face, which is why when it animates with that curvy magenta and yellow texture it shows up as one solid colour, because it's a tiny one-pixel map stretched across its surface.

Great video! The bottom of the Piranha plant having a single colour that matches the moving goop is what happens when a 3D surface receives an infinitely small uv mapping, which makes it only show one pixel of colour at the time. Which is why it matches the moving goop.

Multiple things can prevent a video being made for a game (which are not specific to Ubisoft, these are general points), like...
      1) Some companies don't appreciate unintentional use of their games, such as Nintendo's takedown of the Animal Crossing New Horizons video (yay for that being disputed)
      2) There might not be enough content to make a whole video after all
      3) He just might not see this comment
I would suggest commenting nicely in each subsequent video suggesting it again :)
