    You can tuck both ends of the belt in the third method shown. Watch the Rener Gracie video about how to tie the BJJ belt. He calls it the "superlock" variation. I finally figured out how to do it, and I'm gonna tie my belt that way from now on when I'm at the academy training. Looks better, and won't come untied.

    @diamondeggs7942 Před 5 lety +8

    I find that the second method is much more efficient, it holds alot longer than other ways

    Wow I think this might be the best belt tying video I've seen thus far; I can stop searching now. Love it how you take it nice and super slow, and also include adjustment as that will happen in real life and how to deal with it. Thank you kindly!

    Wow, I needed this! I've gotten so tired of my belt getting untied during practice using the first method. Hopefully my sensei won't freak out when I start tying my belt differently than he does, he's a little old fashioned.

    • @popo-bx1fp
      @popo-bx1fp Před 5 měsíci

      Real, my sensei will scold you if your foot is the slightest bit forward in aikido training, because the "traditional way" conists of your foot facing all the way out. He has pictures of O'sensei (I think thats his name) all over the walls for tradition.

    Thanks for clear demos! I wanted to check out other methods people use to tie belts. My kids visit Aikido school and we use the 3rd method to tie their belts. Definitely the best one if you do not want to get untied belt! Have never happened to us.

  • @leavemealone2006
    @leavemealone2006 Před 9 lety +1

    Thanks for sharing! My belt always came untied during sparring, but since I started using the 3rd way, my belt keeps a nice knot all throughout class!

  • @danieldavy
    @danieldavy Před 11 lety

    Good work with the video, well explained. I think this flat looking knot is similar to the third one, but both ends go in between the two layers wrapped, instead of only one (the left one). Not so sure, but I think that's it. See you!

  • @atvanael
    @atvanael Před 7 lety +6

    That last method, with extra tuck, is something you can see in a lot of old pictures of judo and jujutsu fighters - I've wondered sometimes why people don't seem to do it anymore in many places, when it seems to have been the regular way at one time.
    The founder of the karate style I follow (Wado-ryu) also insisted on wearing his belt with both ends tucked back through, as he was originally a jujutsu guy and didn't like it coming loose from people grabbing onto it. I've done it a lot since starting judo, and also do it with all the little kids' belts at karate, since some of them can't figure out the square knot by themselves if it comes undone.

    • @88Musk
      @88Musk Před 6 lety

      Adam I noticed that also. There is one other way I learned in TKD before I started in Judo that he did't show. A combination of the 1st and third method.

    I wouldn't wash or dry it that way. Wash it cold and air dry it. At your height, the sleeves will get too short if you dry it. After about 6 months of using it, then you can dry it from time to time. My uniforms fit baggy too.

    I think aikido is great stuff. I wish I had done it at some point along the way. I'm sure there are some aspects about aikido that would transition well into self-defence. Much police training is centered around alot of the takedown and locking techniques of aikido for subduing someone. Much of it is theoretical and there isn't a real free sparring venue in aikido, but it's still great.

I can always ask about the orange shirts and see what he says. He can be ornery (lol!) so it's always delicate asking for stuff. PM me through my FB page in the comments.
