    As you might have guessed, the Fold 1 is the first folding e-bike in Velotric’s lineup. We found that it lives up to its name while offering excellent value and functionality for the bike’s price of just $999.
    $1,000 is usually the price point we recommend for a quality e-bike, and we’ve seen models in this price range getting better and better in recent years. We expected the Fold 1 to bear a higher price tag based only on its looks and ride quality, making it clearly one of the best in its budget range.
    Part of that came down to the bike’s feel. It handled extremely well and felt comfortable to ride, thanks to its wide handlebars, ergonomic rubber grips, and squishy saddle.
    But performance was also a factor. The Fold 1 includes a larger-than-average battery and a highly efficient custom motor, which gives the bike an incredible range - see our full review for all the details!

    Great review! Sold my Discover 1 because it was a little too big for my 5'7" 78 year old body. I ordered a blue Fold 1 but have to wait 1 month for it. Thanks guys.

    Well… they took your advice and raised the price to $1,399 (now on “sale” for $1,199)
    Thank you so much 😅😅

      Oh no! We'll have to reach out and see if the $999 price was a pre-order promo. It's still a pretty solid deal for $1200.

    Thanks for this review. I bought one a few weeks ago and so far I like it very much. I found it hard on bumps, but haven't adjusted the shocks yet...will figure that out later.

    I bought a gray Fold 1 at a nearby bike store here in Spokane WA for my son.The ebike is awsome, it's sturdy and well built. I was able to hit top speed of 31mph. I'll probably buy another one in blue for me.

    How does it compare to the Portola? If you had to pick one, which would it be? Any chance you could do a head to head video?

  • @user-pb8de6hx7s

    Also, on hills it does a really good job. We live in a very hilly city and as long as you pedal in combination with pas 4-5, it will do great.

    For affordable, standard folding e-bikes that does the job? Sure.
    For premium, yet still relatively affordable and not over the top e-bike, no.
    That title belongs to the Hovsco Hovbeta, a premium folding e-bike that is Class 3, 750 watt hub drive with 85Nm of torque powered by a torque sensor and hydraulic brakes.
    It is essentially everything an Aventon Sinch 2 is but on steroids!
    You have yet to review that one and its been out for over a year!

      I messed up and didn't respond to your comment here - mines in the open. But agreed with you on how amazing the hovbeta seems and asked if you owned it and if you had any comparison insight with it to the engine pro 2.

    • @ebaake
      @ebaake Před 2 měsíci +1

      The Hovbeta is also $700 more than the fold 1. Not really on the same playing field.

    Ah, speed-targeting style of PAS. My least favorite, so a pass for me, though the rest of its features seem pretty good for the price. Thank you for that information though as it isn’t available on their product page! It’s helpful in winnowing down the choices.

      It's definitely one of our favorites! We also highly recommend the Lectric XP 3.0, the XP Lite, and the Ride1Up Portola.

    Do you own the HovBeta? That looks like an amazing bike. I was wondering how that compared to the Engwe Engine Pro 2, but it sounds like Hov is probably your pick.

      One cool thing to note about the HovBeta is that it's a class 3 folding bike with a torque sensor. Which is definitely rare for class 3 folding e-bikes.

    Would you pick the veloctric Or the mokwheel slate or the magnum Premium 3 16:44 when it comes to overall performance? I wish there were more videos for all these events that covered which is the most reliable down the road and has the least amount of problems and what problems they consistently have. I will be doing more street and easy trail riding. Also which one has the easiest step through. I find that a lot of the bikes that have the battery incorporated into the front frame limit the amount of space to step through

    • @ElectricBikeReport
      @ElectricBikeReport  Před 2 měsíci +1

      A recommendation depends on what you prioritize. The Fold 1 felt generally more comfortable and easy to pedal, but it wasn't the best hill climber. The Slate is powerful and has a torque sensor but doesn't offer leg extension for tall riders. The Premium 3 has an easy step-through and network of dealers/mechanics but a somewhat dated design and a higher price. Around the office we'd likely go with the Velotric.

      Im disappointed that Velotric raised their prices across the board without much warning. I would have bought the Fold 1 at $999 but ride1up or lectric hasn’t raised their prices yet. I wished they would given people more/longer notice. Adding that the Fold 1 is sold out and not available makes the decision to buy a Portola much easier
