I hope that Metamoris goes back to the bigger live crowds. It's neat to see all the world class black belts in attendance, and it really does make it exciting for the viewers (and probably the fighters!) to hear a knowledgeable crowd responding to the action on the mat. PS: It's crazy that the Boogeyman survived that arm bar.
Two great athletes. Dean is such a strong guy and his defence is super. Xande is probably my favourite fighter ever though and I absolutely love watching his game. Many thanks for posting this. :-)
This is one of the greatest matches, highly technical and a lot of action. They both escaped each others main attacks and shook each others hands out of respect.
I met you about 4 or 5 years ago in Northern Ireland at a club called Team Torres. Inspired me during the seminar to look at the whole body. I was totally commeted before the seminar and loved grappling before the seminar but after i had a new different logic and commitment. Thank for your knowledge that day Dean. I also run a Grappling club in Northern Ireland now and am hoping to get ya in when you are over next.
I was lucky enough to be there live. This video doesn't do it justice how electric that crowd was. It was like being at a college football game but in a tiny building
Dean Lister / Lister Dean you are one of the best, OUsss! You are an amazing BJJ champion and an inspiration to us all. Those of you who say that Ribeiro was dominating Dean don't know Dean's style. He trains in a weak position to build up his escapes and strength in those positions. This is why he will give a opponent the dominant position many times, so that he can work his escapes and submissions from there. He did this with Ribeiro the whole match. Dean is a thinker, a very smart tactician. Ribeiro is also very good and definitely gave Dean a challenge. Neither one dominated, but Ribeiro's arm bar attempt was very well done. But so was Dean's escape. Two amazing BJJ champions who gave everyone a master class in BJJ at the highest level.
Why would anyone deliberately put themselves in a weaker position in an actual match? People do that during training and sparring, not an actual competition.
I really loved this display of No Gi skill by both fighters! In my opinion, when you take away all those handholds and grips afforded by the gi, you really get to see the technical strength of the fighters in the best way.
Apples and oranges, apples and oranges. Some people are great with and some are great without, but both match styles present a unique challenge. No Gi doesn't involve as much grip strength, and Gi doesn't involve quite as much hip pressure and the submission defenses are a little less hard (what with gripping the Gi). Also you don't have to worry about reversals nearly as much in No Gi matches and in Gi matches it is much harder to pass guard.
Lukecash12 The key words here were "in my opinion" :p my opinion is based on my preference for faster paced matches, and the gi (mostly the plethora of grips it affords both fighters) seems to me to slow the pace. I appreciate the techniques in all forms of grappling, but IN MY OPINION, No Gi is better.
ileana adamez that wasn't my day :( in the future, i will reveal what has been going on lately, maybe a reason for my terrible performance... Barnett was the better man that day, my hat is off to him
This match was awesome, although it got frustrating watching Xande refusing to initiate any kind of move that would put the fight to the ground. Definitely a new fan in Dean, such a humble guy off the mat too.
It's 2020 and this match is still awesome!
Rickson and Jean Jacques at the end. DAAAAAAAMN so much glory.
more exciting than the match.
can't handle the amount of hespect being thrown around right now
lol

Dean you've inspired me to work on defense! almost like having super powers.
Dean Listers defense is phenomenal!!
Man do I love when this match pops up in my feed!?!? May 2020!!

Highly enjoyable match. I am starting to really like Lister and how he rolls. Credit to both fighters.
Wow... Dean Lister truly lives in the moment...
Lots of respect for both these guys
Everytime I watch Dean Lister compete I run off his fumes for like a month. The man is a tsunami of bad ass! Inspiration.
Great match. Xande passes were awesome
so much respect for the both of them, even though I've recently got into jiujitsu and its art.
Is that Jocko talking to Dean in the background? :)
Nice ! Respect to both competitors !
I love Renner's commentary. The UFC needs him.
Noooo
Take It back now
Can we get Rener back on the mic please
wish it was longer than 20m! damn that was amazing!

That was amazing jiu jitsu. Could watch these two for days.
Two BJJ heroes who inspire me...
great going guys👍👍
Great match! Big fan of both guys!
Love the defense Dean, very impressive. Thanks for the great show!
Badly torn meniscus keeps me from rolling right now....but at least I have more time to check great matches like this out...amazing competitors!
The best fight!!!
Very very good!!!
Great match !!!
I definitely need to start training B.J.J !!!
Why does Rener give Dean so much respect and goes light on Xande. It's so biased. Ugh. Makes me a bigger fan of Xande. Oss!
I was lucky enough to be there live. This video doesn't do it justice how electric that crowd was. It was like being at a college football game but in a tiny building
Mad skills to get out of that arm bar!
Good commentary.
Comments aside, this was an awesome match, probably the best so far, from all three events. Both guys looking for the finish all the time.
mad respect for both guys.. how is dean lister sooo calm under that pressure??!!
a luta mais empolgante do Metamoris!
Impresionante
I can recognize Rener’s voice anywhere. DJOOOOO DJITSU

How is it even possible to escape from that arm lock? Sick!
Dean has balls of steal, that armbar defense wow! Pretty basic, but going for it that late is just stunning!
Two masters of no gi. There was so much going on setting up attacks and counters. Could study for hours.

awesome match
I cant wait till im that calm.
Dean's arm had to of hurt the next day! What a great match!
Lots of respect. Not out to hurt each other. More of an exhibition, not an execution.
Both Renner and the other announcer really make these matches come alive...thx for posting them!!
High level guys both passionate about the sport
Nice match. Respect.
Awesome match
Fucking awesome match. More Metamoris Events!
Dean you were my inspiration to get into the sport. I wish I could train with you one day. The Leg Locks are sick and under utilized.
glad to hear Robert!!! Keep up the training and go far!!! Let me know if you are ever out in San Diego
Dean I would make a special trip just to roll with you brother. I am just up in northern California so it would be an easy flight
+Robert Henderson come down anytime you can my bro
+Lister Dean I am coming to San Diego for business next month so I will make sure to come roll. the guys at my gym will be super jealous.
you are welcome here, looking forward to meeting you
We've seen three submissions tonight. And they've all been totally unique.... Although they all have been arm locks.
Miss Metamoris, best jiu jitsu comp ever
No too many draws.
beautiful beautiful fight
one of my favorite matches right here
was this recorded by rener bro
Dean Lister vs Josh Barnett at Metamoris 4 is gonna be sick.
ileana adamez that wasn't my day :( in the future, i will reveal what has been going on lately, maybe a reason for my terrible performance... Barnett was the better man that day, my hat is off to him
very nice fight
Hey is Rener Gracie the one commenting the match??
Great bout.
Monstros!! Osssa
hip was not up , head was gone 3 secs after the thumb sideway armbar ... seemed exciting .. but u can see why ..
holy fuck man you could see dean thought about tapping but then said fuck it
Both are my favorite fighters..... Xande Ribeiro kimura attempt impress me to add it to my game....Dean armbar escape....i used it really effective
Ya man
Wow... that are lock escape was slick as fuck
So are the fighters the ones who decide whether they compete in a gi/no-gi match? Or the organizers?
In regards to this specific event, that is.
14:42 AMAZING!
Ribeiro BJJ repping strong. Whoop whoop
Ahhhh!!! Wow..wow wow!!!1
If you haven't seen Jiu Jitsu before this is a good match to watch!
Que lutao vendo em 2021
what a match
Is Metamoris still going now? I like this no points, sub only rules. 🤙
Did Xande uncross his legs on purpose at the end of the armbar attempt or did Dean push them apart with his hand?
that was intense!!
Damn this pretty fucking exciting.
14:52 "The boogeyman! The boogeyman! Nothing scares the boogeyman!"
dem escapes!
I miss Metamoris...
dean is a living walking legend
This match was awesome, although it got frustrating watching Xande refusing to initiate any kind of move that would put the fight to the ground. Definitely a new fan in Dean, such a humble guy off the mat too.
Graham Van Dyke thanks man
Lister Dean You're welcome! Keep at it dude, you're a beast!
+Lister Dean hey Dean, will you ever stop by at dallas/fortworth area?
would love to one day
If Xande Ribeiro caught me in an arm bar my damn arm would snap off
How did he not tap at 14:42??
+PabloCruise91 He didnt tap at 6:24 cos xande didnt have the greatest leverage, so he just popped his head out
+PabloCruise91 because he is a monster O_O
+PabloCruise91 The thumb was down, so no arm lock, maybe if he had the shoulder higher.
didn't have the best angle
Because apparently Dean Lister can curl 300 lbs per arm lol
7:54 why don’t they allow heelhooks in the Gi?
2022
Amazing! How the hell did Lister get out of that armbar? Btw Rener is the man, let him fight Buchecha at M3
I thought the original fight card had Dean going against Kevin Casey. What happened?
Xande is not only competing here. he seems to be the referee as well.
I heard that sometimes the hosts of the metamoris event don't pay their competitors. I hope that they were paid for this match.
is that JP sears in the crowd at 21:41 front row to the right?
Lol sitting next to Rickson and Jean Jacques? How the hell did you see him past two gods of the sport? I'm pretty sure it is!
Nah, never mind
Revendo essa luta incrível e imaginando se o Dean Lister ainda responde aos comentários aqui kkkk
nao@!@ :)
I think Rener is a great announcer
THIS is Jiu-Jitsu
beasts...
ribeiro is gangster.
ribeiro set the pace with this match...
you know xande got maybe a hair nervous a the two minute mark, where dean had a chance for a leg lock
wow
If it was point based, then Xande would of won. But man Dean Lister’s defense is at another level
