THANK YOU, so many motovloggers have been doing reviews for this camera and all of them did not even talk about the feature let alone test it out, and some of these videos came out after the December firmware update. Props to Insta360 for sponsoring this its one of the features that makes me want to get a new camera

It's refreshing to see you are open with your sponsorships and kick-backs. I was previously very complimentary about your videos. I was critical of just one of your videos. I think it was one where you got an early release which does compromise one slightly. Anyway, I digress, as always a great video, helpful, thank you.

Been waiting for this quite a while. It's surprising that there's no dedicated product to capture good quality audio while riding (incl. group rides). Best that works for me is the SENA 50c, but the video is so bad, it's basically only usable as a reference to sync it's audio with other cameras.
It would have been cool if the bluetooth sync would work with other insta360 cams too. Even if the quality isn't the best, it would make synchronising audio of a DJI mic a lot easier, and I would love to use it with their 360 cams to have the re-framing options.
I just tried to pair the following (which didn't work (as expected)):
    SENA 50s to Insta OneRS
    SENA 50c to Insta OneRS
Here's my 2 cents on best audio solutions:
    - DJI for solo rides
    - 2x DJI for 2 people rides
    - SENA 50c for group rides

We have this set up and it's been quite frustrating to pair the Cardo Freecom and keep our intercom connection. It upsets the intercom (Hey Cardo, radio off - if you know, you know!) and I can confirm that it only records one dialogue. It's nearly there but not quite so we will be sticking to DJI for now too.

Thank you for making this video! a hot topic for me, and such a pain point, I use the purple panda with my gopro 8 but it is hit and mis as far as actually capturing the correct audio, some times it the media mod mic (not good) and most the time its the external mic that is extremely good, but not knowing whats going to happen or if it will change mid roll is just killing me...
this feature would not help but defiantly good to know. I switch to the new DJI camera but it had some serious issues, probably a fluke but not sure Im willing to risk getting another one.... we just need a good reliable instant on camera with external mic. thanks again

@@mototripperuk Ok. My solution at the moment is to use the Fodsport m1-S Plus intercom phone with X3. The connection works without problems with the X3, but the Intercom connection is not possible at the same time to the camera, because then the sound is not transmitted to the camera at all.

As you are close to Insta, I love my Insta360 x3 but will wait for the next version with 4K or 6K, 10-bit. You can't beat the ability to edit in 360; it's fantastic when combined with Insta Studio. I accept the AcePro is good for quality and nighttime but the flexibility of editing in 360 blows the competition away. Once you go there, it's hard to switch back to basic one-dimensional Action Cameras. Just my humble opinion. I spent 5 weeks in Europe last year with it, and it was awesome. I have booked to ride solo from the UK to Cappadocia, Turkey and back. I am hoping they release an upgraded version of the Insta360, a Pro version, pretty please :-), and happy to pay. The last wish is to be able to use Wireless Mic and easy sync to other Insta cameras like the Ace Pro. Lol, I accept I am optimistic.

  • @SOAFR
    @SOAFR Před 5 měsíci

I connected my Cardo Edge device to the first-ever version of the Insta360 camera, but was unable to link my phone. I assumed this was due to the camera's older technology. Regarding the two Bluetooth channels, it seems I might need to forego my passenger's connection, assuming Insta360 makes further improvements to connect camera and phone as well.
Ideally, both companies should collaborate to enable the recording of multiple cameras with phone and not only my own voice but also phone calls and conversations over mesh. Additionally, integrating an extra BT magnatic microphone which I can place anywhere for capturing exhaust notes, all operating seamlessly together with access control for each Cardo user to prevent unwanted recording, and phone call announcements to ensure legal compliance, would be fantatic.

Cardo's split channel BT sux. It doesnt work with both channels in use at the same time. Took me forever to get my system hooked up to my s1krr because the cardo wouldnt work when paired to my bike and my phone. I had to pair the cardo and my phone to the bike but not together to get the audio to work. I imagine the same is going on with the insta360, cardi, phone situation.

When the two devices are synced to the Cardo, the navi seems to bump the phone offline. Then the phone re-connects. When navi gives an instruction, I'll hear "phone re-connected" so I assume it blips out. If I go Ace Pro to the Cardo and I also have the navi unit, will it bump out the Ace Pro so nothing is getting recorded?

I bought both the Ace Pro, and the Cardo Edge because I want to connect both my phone for music, and the Ace Pro to record the music I'm listening to on the ride. I should have watched this video first; I was so disappointed when I couldn't get them both to pair directly. The Cardo does have two BT channels to connect a second BT headset that another biker might be using that is not compatible with Cardo, and you're supposed to be able to stream the music you're listening to over to the other rider. I figured that this would work, I was able to pair my phone directly to the Cardo, then pair the Ace Pro as a second rider, but when I played music from my phone it stuttered really bad. I could play FM radio with no issues though. I forgot to test if the camera recorded the radio as well at the time. I am hoping that a firmware update will allow this to work. For me listening to music while riding is a huge deal, and I'd love to watch my videos back and listen to the same music I was listening to at the time. I have tried positioning the Ace Pro mic at various spots in my helmet to try and pick up the music, but my Shoei helmet is so tight around the ears and the speakers of the Cardo that it just can't pick it up unless I place the mic right next to one of the speakers but then it gets way over distorted because of the Cardo volume.

    • @bjornonwheels
      @bjornonwheels Před 5 měsíci

The Cardo Packtalk Edge (and previous Packtalk generations) doesn't have bluetooth resources and simultaneous capacity to serve both a BT camera/ recorder in recording and a BT audio playback device in active playback at the same time. Stuttering will occur in the playback audio as well as in the recording session as the bluetooth circuitry then will be multiplexing the audio streams. Your described experience is as by current hardware design, no firmware update will change this. In order to accommodate the functionality you describe as desired, some additional (hardwired) equipment and maybe even some post production with video/ audio editing is required as well. The Cardo connection matrix as described in the Cardo Packtalk Edge user documentation applies. 🙂

So I am super pissed. I just picked up the insta 360X4 and the Cardo Packtalk EDGE and when connect them I get no sound recorded threw the mic and voice commands do not work. It's like the camera is not registering the mic. I'm really getting kind of pissed.

How much of a delay is there between powering on the Ace Pro and the Cardo syncing to it if you don't touch anything? The Osmo Action 4 and the mic apparently takes about 30 seconds (!) to sync if you use the quick capture function (so not really quick...) so wondering how this compares?

The most important information is still missing. Hopefully you can find another device.
Does bluetooth work for the camera at the same time when the Intercom connection is connected (DMC or Bluetooth). Or does the intercom block the connection of the voice to the camera completely?
(In the Bold model, the priority can be changed in the app, I don't know if that has any effect here. Bold has no effect)
Hearing other people's speech is not so important, but the microphone of your own device should always work so that the sound is transmitted to the camera.
It would be enough if you could keep the intercom on and have conversations with others if necessary, and your own voice would go on the camera at the same time.
It would be great to be able to record the conversation, but if even the sound of your own mic was going to the camera, the Edge would also work as an intercom system with the camera, and not just as a microphone when you can't connect other devices at the same time.
Good and informative video by the way!!

If the bluetooth enabled camera/ recorder is connected to a Cardo Packtalk Edge as a bluetooth headset companion ("Rider A"/ "Rider B") and then bridged in to Packtalk DMC mesh, the BT camera/ recorder will participate in the DMC group as a bluetooth headset member. DMC intercom will work as expected without blockage or interruption. In addition, TFT/ GPS/ Phone 2 connection is available for other use. The Cardo connection matrix as described in their user documentation for the Packtalk Edge applies. See my comments elsewhere below this video. 🙂

@@durango008, your mileage may vary. The Hero12 is accepted by the Packtalk Edge as a device that can connect as a bluetooth headset ("Rider A"/ "Rider B"). Since I don't have a Insta360 Ace Pro I cannot verify if that one can do the same. I don't have the PT Bold anymore. I just sold the pair I had the other day, so I can't verify the PT Bold against the Hero12 either. I've had some plain stereo headsets earlier that connected to the Packtalk / Packtalk Bold in the rider channel. When I tried a Sony WH-1000XM4 to pair with the Packtalk Edge now, the PTE wouldn't accept it. Some devices will be able to connect in the TFT/ GPS/ Phone 2 mode instead, as you say.
Though bluetooth connection is sweet to have, the known hardwired helmet recording solutions with separate/ dedicated lav mikes and Y-splitters are still the most reliable way to connect for voice and group recording. Just do a neat install and tuck those tiny wires away. 👌🙂

@@jamestalkseverything sorry, I don't know the X3. My experience and current reference is Packtalk Edge and bluetooth to GoPro Hero12. Blutooth voice recording for both own voice and group works on that setup, but audio quality is variable to poor and for the moment I see it as suitable for own educational purposes only. For public VLOG I'd recommend a separate microphone still and keep the Cardo Packtalk for phone and group communications (per April 2024). Let's hope audio recording over BT improves in the close future!

@@nickbock3156 I've tested that alternative, by recording off a 2nd Packtalk. Both with my previous PT Bold and now the PT Edge, in both cases connected as DMC mesh. I'm not really sure that the audio is as enjoyable, it sure isn't HiFi. If you want to reflect a comms audio situation in your audio it's fine, but you're most certain to get some comms audio artifacts as you'd normally experience in a DMC mesh connection. Remember to insert some electrical attenuation between the headset audio out and recorder, otherwise the recorded audio might have too much gain and be just too hot even when the output volume from the PT Edge is turned all way down. The PT Edge audio out is meant for headset audio, not line out to recording equipment.
My take is that own voice is best recorded with a good quality dedicated lav mike with a good wind muff / deadcat inside the helmet. Group comms audio can be picked up by a lav mike close by or even on the right or left earpiece/speaker as acoustic coupling and some (mono) split wiring connecting with own voice lav mike to recorder. Alternativley as electrical signal split with attenuator wire and (mono) split wiring with own voice lav mike. That will keep you down to the complexity of just having to deal with a single PT Edge on your side for logistics, power/charge, group connection and so on.
      Enjoy experimenting! 🙂
