Here's the thing with the self made man, without the gym bros help, Arnold would not have been able to take care of his own life, it may seem like not much, but it was the first example he mentioned, so it was a big motivation for him, self-esteem is as important as any other kind of health, a healthy body can't do much without a healthy mind.
It's all a lie though, because he was a self made man, he had a fucking business back then, and those body builders, were his employees...
Couldn't have said it better myself
As I have come to wholeheartedly believe, it is very easy to keep going once you have always started. It is the actual start from nothing that's the most brutal
Yes I agree, but also there is no way Arnold only meant that one instance. He was just giving one very good example of people in his life that have helped him reach his goals. Its a speech ffs, you don't just drone on and on, there is purpose in including aspects of your life but it serves to exemplify what your conclusion will be.
If you've never been without all the comforts you have, you wouldn't understand. Once at rock bottom or with so little, it's statistically improbable to make it out.
Maybe look up Arnold’s bodybuilding career MXR. He became popular because he was the face of bodybuilding. That in turn helped with his acting career. If you see the roles he got he was always a big strong guy… conan, terminator, etc.. so yeah them giving him the means to live.. furniture, silverware to eat which is all you do when you body build. I’m sure it helped a lot lol
Henry is completely dumb yeah. Nice guy and entertaining but sooooo dumb
Exactly
Yeah hard to focus on bodybuilding when you're busy trying not to starve to death, sleep, and not get evicted
Yup, and it's hard to become a world famous actor, if you starve (or have to give up and return to Austria) before you even started your bodybuilding career. It's comparable to school, for example. If you don't have access to education, you can be as brilliant as you want, you will not become the next Stephen Hawking. The people giving you access to education contribute to your success in a way that may not be as obvious, but it's nonetheless real. Nice to see Arnie acknowledge that.
i feel like Henrys takes are a bit off these days.. and yeah. He would never been able to be successful unless he got the help from others. If he needed to work hard and long hours at an mcdonalds he wouldn't be the actor we know today.
Normally I just love watching their reactions...but this time...I love how so often in this video it shows just how sheltered the two of them really are.
Fr man
It annoys me how much of sheltered lives they live
they have never had to work in their entire lives.
and they probably never will.....
What does sheltered mean?
@@vexeft7821 means people have never gone out to do stuff for themselves. Example a child never learning to change oil on their car instead they get someone else to do it. Or not being able to change a tire. Tbf some of us do live somewhat sheltered lives
I've been a cleaner for 20 years, mostly cleaning house's for people with physical and mental problems and let me tell you I've cleaned far worse looking places
than what was shown in this video. But in the end it's one of the most rewarding jobs I've ever had. To see the smile's and the reaction that these unfortunate people
show me after I'm done is very heartwarming. I don't expect people that solely exist on social media to understand that sort of feeling because as we all know
social media is not really what we call the real world...
Arnie used that small part to show how most help looks. getting set up in his apartment helped him with the next step, like getting his acting career off the ground. He had a friend get him his first job (hercules in NY)which led to the next step.
I remember that movie. It was kinda crap, given that at the time, if I remember correctly, Arnold didn't speak english at all/ very well, but it launched his career for sure.
I just watched that movie last month, and realize that it is actually not too bad.
His first Acting job... He was a business owner before his first acting job...
@@livedandletdie Not enough people seem to know Arnold was literally a millionaire in the 1970s before he became an actor.
@@100nitrog Yeah was he like Mr Universe or some shit. Literally the top bodybuilder in the world.
@@Kharmatos13 Not from that. He started a bricklaying business with an Italian gym buddy. They didn't do well initially, but then they started marketing themselves as luxury European style bricklayers and actually raised their prices higher than the competition, which caused demand to skyrocket. He used the profits from that business to flip properties, and by the early 70s, he had somewhere between 1 and 2 million dollars, roughly 7.5-15 million dollars today.
What Henry failed to realize is that while yes Arnold becomes who he is today because of who he is as a person and his character there are still other people in his life who contributed a lot in different stages of his life. Understanding that fact will make you more appreciative of the people you have/had in your life who stood by you when shit is going tough.
The fact that he remembered fondly to this day (he's in his 70s now) that he was helped by the people from Gold's Gym when he started his career shows how deeply appreciative he was of their help no matter how small you might think the impact of their help may be.
Ironic considering that we have rallied multiple times to keep this channel alive. It makes me wonder why I'm here anymore. Arnold gives back to various charities, what had mxr done? Bought a few homes in the most expensive states in the US?

Finally it's here YES.
notice how he turns red, whe he said it..
The self-made man part made me realize how sheltered Henry really is. He doesn't realize how amazing it is for others to help you with something when you're not in the best time of your life. It's basically one thing off of your worry list that gives you time and additional mental health that is otherwise wasted on worrying and solving the problem.
Cultural upbringing has a lot to do with it. Not trying to stereotype but it does seems that an East Asian man would take pride in his accomplishments and be offended that someone told him he only achieved something because of someone else. Kinda like telling a racial minority they only succeeded because they got preferential treatment in university admissions or employment. Diversity hire.
@@YuSooKey Oh damn I didn't even realize that possibility. In this case, I wish it weren't true because of that though. While being proud of what you do is healthy, being offended for giving a part of the credit to others is very narcissistic.
@@YuSooKey You got it backwards. Asia is a collectivist society and the 'west' is a individualistic society.
@@YuSooKey yes here in my country men will do anything to provide to family or take care of themselves before asking for help. like they will go through worst days of lives with nothing and still won't ask for help

2:23 i don't think you guys understand how much different wolves in the wild actually are from other wolves and dogs. that isn't chonk, that's muscle. wolves are insanely dangerous.
And surprisingly shy for something which could easily rip you a new one, have a fascinating social hierarchy and even work with other animals, especially ravens. Wolves are awesome. I hope I never meet any in the woods.
Arabian wolves are much smaller.
Also it seems like it's winter in the video. Most animals fatten up before winter comes.
Might be a bit chonk though. Judging by the size of the wolf there's a good chance that's in or around western Canada, where deer populations should be starting to explode due to a reduction in hunting caused by the gun bans. More deer with less competition from humans means better fed wolves. There's been similar occurrences all across America whenever a local government tries to ban hunting or the guns hunters use.
@@PalmPrimus I don't want to be rude but I truly believe the whole youtube lifestyle damaged their brain.
For arnold, basically yes. He came over with nothing, and he got help from friends and family along the way. The golds gym member story wasnt implying that they were why he succeeded. It was to show that even at the very start of his life in america, he needed and got help from friends, and thats why he got as far as he did. The drug bust, planes are fragile. And light. That was a great way to shut down an escape safely (for the agents)
Arnold is self-made however he did it before he got to America he sold ice cream on the beach to purchase his gym set he then became a three universe before moving to United States has a millionaire where he purchased lots of land
the idea of the "self made man" isn't that you did everything on your own though. literally everyone knows that we live in communities. whether he likes it or not, Arnold is a Self-made man.
it's about succeeding with what you are given. getting help and turning into so much more than what you are given and making sure to return the help you received back to the community. it is first and foremost the definition of what is required to be a good person, a good man especially.
Henry seems to be making a lot of this dumb points lately. Is like he doesn't understand the power of receiving a little bit of help when you have nothing.
He probably also thinks that everything he (Henry) has is thanks to himself, as if nobody had to put the hard work for him to live in a house.
In hercules in New York ..he wrestled a "bear" in central park
No one becomes a famous actor by themselves or a successfully youtuber either lol. I mean the both of them obviously put in the work but that alone isnt enough to achieve success

Henry, the point is that if the people from the Gym didn't help Arnold, he may have never gotten to where he was, their help & kindness helped make him who he is.
A similar point can be made about Eve & her dirty kitchen. The woman that helped, could have broken the cycle for Eve who couldn't bring herself to clean because of her mental health but due to it being cleaned for her, that block for her is now gone & can instead be motivated to make sure the kitchen never gets that way again.
Won't work 100% of the time, but it is a good method, it's how people with Hording problems are helped a lot of the time, they can't do it themselves but if someone helps they can be brought out of it, but they can also relapse. Ultimately though, they wouldn't have a *chance* if someone didn't help them.

I worked at an auto parts store for many years. We kept several kinds of fire extinguishers in stock all the time and some of the emergency kits include one as well. It's a great idea to have a fire extinguisher in your car.
Each instance was held up by others helping. it is not them giving Arnold just dishes and pillows. the kindness shown can bring you out of the worst thought and worst days. also it may inspire you to do more in return. he may have felt more inclined to stick it out with his gym bros pushing him to where needed to be to get today. it's the little things that others do that help you move forward. trust me a lot of things go unappreciated these days and everyone says they made it on their own. tell you look at from a logical perspective then you remember how truly full of it they are.
Random acts of kindness cost you barely anything but can make the day for others.

Basic toolkit, tow rope, anti-slip boards and an extinguisher.

And thats with a very very small car.
Henry bruh, Arnold is talking about the people who have helped him through out his career, he barely knew English and started humble in the gym scene, those little things like bringing him plates and pillows probably meant a lot more than receiving stuff for free, since he even remembers what was given to him and the people that we're there, he even became legend in the scene which alot of people know but the extremes that they went to back then and the drive needed for that.
I'm not a fan boy, he's done a lot of amazing things but also bad things, for example cheating on his wife, but his dedication to everything he did and his reasons for his motivation is worthy of respect.
with the house cleaning bit i have to say this works, i have autism and a grocery list of other issues less well known even i dont fully understand them but when i was younger my room was a horrible mess and when graduation came around my best friend offered to help me clean my room and after using shovels to clean up ive nver let my room get so bad ever again, some people just need a restart to fix thier lives or at least parts of it so mad props to the people that identify this and help others.
I want to add that I have also since done this for my nieces and nephews with their rooms and they've been able to keep them clean ever since
It's easier to keep kitchen clean from small everyday crumbs and stuff then to do huge cleanup when your mental energy is close to zero.
Personally, this doesn't work for me. I let crumbs and dishes accumulate until i reach a tolerance level where i simply have to clean. Never been a huge problem but i would rather be more constant cleaner then just once a week.
Most of the time I always have a fire extinguisher in my truck. Many people do carry them in their vehicles. I've never had to use mine but it's amazing how much money you can save by extinguishing a baby fire before it gets out of hand.
A very heartwarming, motivational speech by Arnold. No one can do it on their own.
I think I have seen that off-road suspension video before.

Why don't I remember this One-Punch Man character?!
Yes someone bringing you things you need in a time of need *can* make that much of a difference. When they do that you don't have to worry and can focus on things other than just surviving. Also it wasn't just about the dishes it's about the group of people you have to support you.
Seeing their "One Punch Man Cosplay" title and thumbnail, to have it reload in the new tab to "50,000 Suspension" almost made me think I clicked the wrong video, cheeky timing ;)

In most EU countries a fire extinguisher is a requirement in a car as a matter of law
In most countries of the entire world. Hell most African countries require you to have a fire extinguisher in your vehicle. Same for Asia, Southern America and even fucking Australia requires you have a fire extinguisher.
@@Dominik189 wait... you don't have to have a fire extinguisher in the US of A in your vehicle?
@@Dominik189 I've been to 6 different countries, none of them required it. But sure. I guess I am that unlucky.
I used to drive trucks, it is also a requirement in the US to have a fire extinguisher in a commercial truck. Pay attention some time driving on the highway, you may spot the decals printed on the cab area saying "fire extinguisher inside" or sometimes "fire extinguisher" with an arrow to indicate location. DOT enforces this stuff too, I got pulled over once and cited for not having these.
The boss had bought a used moving van type box truck to use for deliveries, and had not yet put any DOT numbers or decals on it, we only had it a couple weeks and started using it immediately. I got pulled over at a routine inspection stop at a weigh station, and I personally received the citation for not having proper DOT decals. I think it's gone now, but at one time if I looked up my license and driving record, it had a separate entry where it listed "CDL violations".
That entry contained 2 items, "operating a commercial vehicle while not properly seatbelted" and "driving a commercial vehicle without proper DOT decals". I thought it was a bit messed up that these violations went on my personal driving record, not the company record, but it is what it is. I mean, the seatbelt thing was all me, even if they were kinda shitty about it. They had spotters with walkie-talkies about a mile from the weigh station, giving descriptions to inspectors. I saw them at the last minute, and put on my seatbelt, but too late. When I pulled up to the weigh station, they were waiting to give me a ticket.
In the UK there is no such thing
I agree little actions make an impact over time. I tell my kids every time you leave your room to grab 2 item ,trash, bottles or whatever and take care of it and you'll always have a clean room.
That clean up at the end... As a caretaker for a disabled elderly parent I kind of know what that's about. Too easy to get behind on it if you're not careful. So that kind of help really does go a long way. Even if it amounts to maid service, people overwhelmed by a lot of other things going on can be really grateful for that kind of boost.
@Henry the dishes and pillows contributed to his state of mind/mindframe. It lessened a burden therefore making it easier for him to achieve those goals, cause he got proper rest and didn't have to stress about meals. The depression he would face had he not had these heartwarming things as you put it, could have derailed him completely. As many are learning these days, depression can be extremely debilitating. Who's to say he would have anything had he not received that help, and I think that's what he is trying to say with that video. He attributes his success to the help of others and I believe him. *insert "Lean on Me" music playing in the background*
Arnold's advice is so true. We are social animals, and we need one another to survive. This is why most of us respond so positively to videos showing people helping one another. We should look out of opportunities to help other people, but we need to do so carefully.
Regarding Henry's take on the Swarzenegger clip:
It's not about whether his codybuilder friends helping him caused him to become a star.
It's that without all the cumulative help he has recieved from friends, family and strangers, he would not have made it anywhere close to where he is now.
nah, my boot straps raised themselves up
I wonder if that race footage is from Best in the Desert? Biggest off road race in America runs through my town every year and these are the trucks they race.
I'm with Arnold on this. 3 years ago I gave up and was ready to shrivel up and die. Its friends doing small things to help that got me up, got me going. And by no means am I a success, far from it. But because of them I'm facing each day. With their help I got myself a job, an apartment, food, clean clothes. No man is an island. I am thankful for everything these friends have done for me. And soon, I too will be in a position to help other friends the way they did for me.
See 1.51 when the would-be robber lays HIS gun on the counter.
Henry, sometimes you are so dim, Arni needed help at all levels, like an agent to get him into rolls, publicists to build and sell his image and brand, his friends at the start were just the start.
That stung badly but is also very true.
To that cashier, it was brave to challenge that dude without firing a shot. Good on you, but remember - it could go the other way with a twitch of the finger. Hard to decide what to do in the heat of the moment, but the robber was pretty clearly unsure of himself, or at the least unassertive. It was a pretty good gamble.
if people are interested, the Active Self Protection channel covers videos like that one daily, sometimes the outcomes are not good for the victim though. Each video provides tips on how the victim could better have acted to defend themselves.
A big reason that the cashier was ready for the robber was his awareness, and his gut feeling that the guy coming to his doors was sketchy.
I worked as a cashier night shift, I never got anyone try to rob me with a gun because I live in Europe so getting guns is hard. Maybe have better gun control like no guns at all, mfkers the commies will never attack you so stop being so fkin scared. No guns is the best policy.
Still feels like he let him off easy. It genuinely makes me angry seeing someone try to rob a store, like I know some people get desperate but still robbing someone shouldn’t be considered an option since it’s still causing another innocent person problems.

that wolf isnt fat, its just a real wolf lol
It does look chunky. I've not seen a lot, but I've seen a couple of wolfs and they were much leaner than that. Maybe that's the fur and specific kind of a wolf, not sure.
@@tomaszwota1465 northeastern wolfs are almost double the size of the next closest wolf breed, so the vid is most likely northern canada where they get pretty huge
@@bongcrusha420 that might explain it.
I mean, they helped Arnold get started and who knows where he would’ve been if he didn’t get that help. Even in politics you need people around you to help you get elected, movies need a crew, and body builders need trainers so yeah, his point is still valid.
We have a fire extinguisher in each of our cars, as well as bottled water, a first aid kit, a break out tool, a tire iron, tool kit, and jumper cables.
Penn & Teller used to do magic specials on TV where they would do a trick and then do it again, only this time completely explaining how they did it.
It was the smallest act of positivity that did the biggest positive impact in Arnold's life. Without that Thanksgiving with the members from Gold's gym, we would have never heard of Anrold. What happened to him is something people tend to over look in their lives or take for granted, he did not and has not.
Small things done in a great way almost always make a difference in someone's life.
3:50 Well said Henry's girlfriend.
In Brazil it's used to be mandatory for all cars to have fire extinguishers today it's not but it's still a really common practice
in Brazil its mandatory to have a fire extinguisher in the car, thought it was like that everywhere lol
Guerilla gardening is also a successful way to garden in your yard. Just plant bee and pollinator attracting flowers on the edges of your garden and veggies in the middle. You steal the bees and pollinators from your neighbor's gardens and you get the massive veggies. All without doing anything wrong. You just planted nice 🌺
his friends giving the things they did was a way to support him and his life and gave him the drive to keep going that is how the food and stuff helped
I prefer cane umbrellas. In addition to protecting you from water, the are also a walking stick, a baton to twirl, a cane if you hurt your foot, (held horizontally) a spacer to create some personal space, and a weapon to use on those who don't respect your personal space.
I don't know how it is in the West, but where I live it is essential to have a bag of specific items in the baggade. These include a fire extinguisher, a light reflecting triangle warning sign and a few others
9:38 I understand that this is comedy and I also know that Henry meant like people who think they've done it alone are being invalidated. But no. People who think they've survived alone are very fearless and strong and courageous. However, as i have observed thru my life. People who have depression or people who took the path of hardships think they've made it alone. Oftentimes when we're too emotional, we can't really see who is around us. That inspite of all the emotions we are feeling, theres people thatn were always already there. Helping you. Being with you. And I think being overly emotional and depressed, you can't really see and realize those people.
Arnolds saying "... Help others too" hes saying i am not invalidating those "self made man" but in the end, if you have some power, if you have made enough money to give charity then you should help others too. Great power comes great responsibility. Hes teaching us that we shouldn't be selfish and arrogant. Instead we should help one another.
Wolves have what is known as a winter coat that starts growing in about mid fall and stays till they shed it in spring in order to stay warm. That is why they look extra fluffy in alot of videos and photos because they where during that time period. In fact there are several domestic dog breeds (such as huskies, malamutes, chihuahuas, greyhounds) also get winter coat.
The umbrella was on TikTok and he had a link in the description, it was pretty cheap for what it can do. Like 30-50 bucks.
Them wondering why someone would have a fire extinguisher in their car 😂. These two have been way sheltered. That’s one of the first things my parents made sure I had in my car when I got my license. Along with an emergency blanket, bottled water and long lasting food in case I got stranded somewhere.
16:52 can confirm, my friend's apartment got like this(amazed me) and he said he just needed help to get it manageable. well my family ran a construction business and I helped do many final cleans, so I left his place spotless. not 2 months later same thing, and its a 1 bedroom that only he and his girlfriend shared while he was unemployed(covid). so I helped 1 more time and wouldnt you know it the place was trashed again.
maybe its because i was raised with higher standards because thats how you get houses to rent/sell and I got yelled at for missing a speck of dust on the baseboard, but I honestly thought this was rare.
my eyes have been opened.
Arnold was just giving one of many examples of people helping him throughout his life. Come on Henry... 😅😅
dude.. i want that umbrella
also, that cosplay though
Penn and Teller Fool Us will sometimes show how magic tricks are done. It is a good show.
Henry sometimes you have the weirdest takes xD
Arnold is saying that the self made man is unrealistic, he isn't saying you have to solely rely on other people.
Sometimes i wonder if he is stupid.
No that is exactly what Arnold was saying... After All, Arnold might as well be a Democrat, after all he holds no Conservative values, and we all know the Democrat stance on things, no one can do anything by themselves, there must always be someone there to help you, because you're too weak or too stupid to do it yourself. That's at least what they say to blacks, all the time.
@@livedandletdie that is what you took from that?
He holds no conservative values, how do you know that?
Democracy just means that people get to choose, republic means that state officials get to choose.
Conservatism isn't just for republicans just like democracy isn't just for the democratic parties.
Now what Arnold was saying here is that we can't just rely solely on ourselves, you can't become something all by yourself, there will always have to be other people you need to rely on. Which is 100% correct, that is why we have societies...
Arnold is saying that because is the nice woke thing to say, obviously you don't do everything by yourself, you don't grow your own food, someone taught you to read etc. But not everyone succeeds even with all the help in the world, some do it making their own opportunities.
@@zlkanglwrth2776 how do you make your own opportunities?
Please enlighten me before you sound like a fool.
0:56 there is actually a show that i used to watch a while ago where the magician shows the trick, and then he repeats but this time showing how to do it. He would do everything, from simple card tricks to more complex escaping tricks, disappearing, etc...
The show i believe was around way before i watched, but when i was a kid i think it was repeating the show on prime tv in my country.
It was a while ago, but if my memory doesnt fail me it was called "Magic's Biggest Secrets Revealed" or something like that (english is not my first language and in my country the name was in our language).
I also remember reading about this show being controversial, since a lot of people from the community wasnt happy. The magician used a mask until the end, after he revealed who he was. People in the community started suing him, others started claiming that there were a lot of mistakes on his explanations and that "professional magicians would never do it like this", etc...
Honestly i cant remember if it was good or not (in the general public eye), but i remember that when i was a kid i did enjoy watching it, so there's that!
The "Masked Magician" from _Breaking the Magician's Code: Magic's Biggest Secrets Finally Revealed,_ his name is Val Valentino.

well bike with exposed fuel tank are easier to puncture compared to scooter bike for example. Not only that, the fuel lines are also somewhat more exposed.
Dang! Arnie's speech gave me goosebumps.
4:40 wait in USA the cars don't have a fire extinguisher? On Brazil all cars have a fire extinguisher by law
Different countries have different laws & standards, who knew?
I get the feeling the Irwin family is gonna make a comeback soon on animal planet. He won't be in his father's shadow much longer even then having a legacy to be proud to follow isn't so bad
Isn't his daughter also big into animals?
They have a show called crikey it's the Irwins on animal planet it's been going since 2018
and Robert has his own TikTok
If you ever want to see them at the zoo, plan your trip around Queensland school holidays or important public holidays, because otherwise they're overseas. Been hat way since Steve died.
The thumbnail wasn't thirst trap. Wow. Proud of you guys
In my country fire suppression bottles are mandatory. though a bit small for car fire. Also courses in first aid, guess they should include burning biker variant, lol. there was none, as I retook courses for a new category last year :)
11:00 Henry, Arnold getting the food and silverware is the catalyst for him to be able to get the Terminator role. That's what that was about. If he didn't receive that help, events could have played out differently and he wouldn't have been in the right place and the right time to land that role. You will still have to work hard for your success, but do not even think for a second that you got there all due to your own effort. That's the point of the speech.
Did they cut this fragment?
@@andrekrzyzowiec4063 yea it looks like they cut it cause the entire comment section is talking about how bad it makes him look and I cant find it at any of the time stamps
We all love mxr.u two are the best friends forever ❤️❤️❤️
Honestly about the car that had the fire extinguisher in their car it is pretty common and really smart to carry one in your car. You are after all driving around with a tank of very flammable liquid (unless of course you drive an electric).
Straight up I wrote an essay on Steve Irwin in English class not even a week or so ago 🤣
None of those other accomplishments can happen if he doesn't have food, a place to sleep, and a the support of others.
To me Arnolds body building career is the thing I look up to, not the acting or politics, these two came as a result of the bodybuilding career.
That "Billy you got the camera" comment got me. "Yeah i do and so do you Jerry. Gorge also has one. Its called a body cam and its mandatory for law enforcement units."
I you like behind the scenes of magic, watch literally anything Penn & Teller do. There was also an old show (I can't recall the name. The Masked Magician, or Secrets of the Magician. Something like that.) where a magician revealed how their tricks were done, but were completely covered and used a different set of assistants from his usual set. The reasoning being that revealing even one trick is enough to get you blacklisted from every major event.
