I am not typically one who latches on to bad guys but Baylan and Shin are by far the most interesting characters in this show and it is heartbreaking that Ray Stevenson passed away.
im not entirely sure they are bad.
@@CERBERUS_349 Agreed!
Shin has zero personality but to each his own
Im sure that Baylan will turn out to be good. He said something that he wants to destroy the cycle of eternal conflict between good and evil..
baylan is very dangerous for sure. very much will do '' what needs to be done regardless of the cost'' but honorable@@Opusss
The loss of Ray Stevenson is heartbreaking. He is one of my favorite parts of all the Disney Star Wars.
I believe Dominic purcell is now playing rays role very sad I loved Ray as baylan
Pfizered
@j.t.867 nah he took an allergic reaction to some food he ate
@riseup420 myocarditis, pericarditis or blood clots is more likely
@@MelchizedekKohenI'm pretty sure that was for Cassino in Ischia which he died while filming.
I get the feeling that Tera Sinube was Baylan’s master and they were doing missions on Coruscant, but weren’t at the Jedi Temple during order 66. The amount of patience Baylan has reminds me of one of the old masters.
i think its plo koon. a link between baylan and ahsoka
Interesting 🤔
Very interesting and an Avenue I hadn’t considered. However didn’t thrawn call him general baylon. Meaning he was quite advanced. I think he was independent rather than an apprentice
@Mike-we2hb he most likely left during/after the clone wars and that could explain his general situation and the type of armor he wears
@@KlukePhoenix that particular armour he wears, does that have bearing on his leaning or is that a bit of an generic style? Anakin and baylon I’m guessing a similar age when order 66 was called?
A flashback duel between Anakin and Baylan would be EPIC!!!
Or... Baylan engaged Vader but other Jedi opponents entered the fray and Baylan escaped as Anakin ripped through the others, he knew he was outmatched so he ran. Would love to see a flashback of Baylan seeing Vader at the temple.
Would have been lazy if he ran since vader would have dispatched them within 10 seconds so he would have caught baylan
It's a nice idea, but they wouldn't do that. They already portrayed Anakin as so much more than a simple Jedi or Sith on this tv show. It would be a throwback to show Anakin at his worst.
A flashback with Sam Witwer playing a young Baylan 👀
I'm trying not to get into these theories, but I believe this one the most.
@@SuperMazdaBros bro, that would be cool. But. I almost want to see Sam as a more long term character later, cough cough star killer.
When he said he saw it burn I just pictured him on has way back from the store in a speeder and he just turns around saying nope
Lol dude for real!!! Baylan must have been like "put it in reverse terry!" Reminds me of the storm troopers in the force awakens who almost walk up on kylo having a tantrum
I hope Ray is looking down on us, smiling, knowing how much Baylan is so loved by the fans. Rest easy Ray.
It’s a tragedy that RayStevenson died. He is such a gem in this show and steals every scene he’s in and has such a quiet way of commanding the attention on the screen.
I’m hoping they do a Tales of the Jedi, showing Baylan’s backstory
He was a great character. It's a shame he had covid vaccine aside effects and left us too soon. 😢
Baylan is such a cool character, how unfortunate that Ray Stevenson passed away.
I haven't watched a single episode and I've never seen Stevenson before this series. And it still hurts that he passed away. It doesn't take much to notice how exceptional he is for this universe.
I actually think Baylan's disillusionment with the Jedi comes from their fear. They had become so afraid of the dark side, that the don't even teach about it. And they've become so afraid of emotions and attachments, that they take children at very young ages, before they become emotionally attached to friends and family. While simultaneously having them become attached to their master. So, rather than teaching them to control their emotions, the Jedi made it a practice to emotionally stunt the growth of those emotions. They didn't know how to handle them. They also blocked themselves off from the parts of the force that might be considered darker, thus emotional. I think Baylan sees this as a mistake.
This is actually a pretty good assessment, especially the contrast between the controlling of emotions vs the stunting of them.
Only one who had Wisdom at that time was Qui Gon Jinn was what the jedi was supposed to be. And he represents what Anakin would have become if he remained in the right path. They were both similar and two sides of the same coin. So with his passing it allowed the dark side to tempt and influence him. The clutches of turning out like dooku did who represent Anakin's fall to the dark side and disbelief and issue with the jedi order. Though qui gon was also a rebel with the council, quick to rush into action too
Good comment right here!!
@@eazypeazy2964 remember the original jedi used both light and dark powers. when they'd go to far in one directiopn, they'd be sent to the moon of tython with the oposite powers for "rehabilitation". baylon wants a return to that type of jedi.
Babylon and QuiGon probably were poker buddies at the least.
God Damn it, why was Stevenson taken from us so soon?
Something fun that no one ever brings up. Filoni always names characters best on their character history, goals, and personality. Baylan means "justice". Just like Ahsoka means "Hope".
I hope we see more characterization for Shin. We know that Balon misses the Idea of the Jedi and is sentimental, but that could come from the relationships he formed with other Jedi and not the institution itself. It would be interesting to see how Shin could feel isolated from other Jedi (except for Balon) in the form of close friendships and bonds. She may have a father figure but may also want brothers and sisters like the family structure which the Jedi provided for Balon (since force sensitive children were taken to become Jedi when they were young). Currently there is nobody that she can confide in surrounding the struggles of being an apprentice. At least Anakin vented his frustrations over his master's decisions with Padme. But Shin has no one but Balon. And she seems very attentive and longing when she asks Balon about the Jedi temple. As if she longs to be there herself. There's also a question as to why a well trained dark Jedi like Shin didn't easily kill an inexperienced and out of practice Sabine in light saber combat at thier first meeting. I like to think it was the shock of seeing another Jedi as they've all but become extinct but also because of the realization that she's not alone afterall. In my head cannon Shin wanted Sabine to live but was conflicted because of the mission she was on. Much like how Sabine was conflicted when she handed over the map to get to Ezra back when the map was meant to be destroyed. It would be interesting if this is where the story is leading
Agreed, Shin is my favorite character aside from Anakin ofc. I can appreciate that they’ve kept her background mysterious it adds to her allure, and yes she’s very inquisitive about the Order and Baylans journey. Have to admit I applauded Shin literally sticking it to Wren early on, not a fan of hers. Hopefully they don’t kill her off.
for some reason I believe Shin will find her own way. Perhaps in the end disagree with Baylan. Maybe the way she acts when told things that she originally understood differently.
0:28 “Shin Hottie” instead of saying Shin Hattie throughout 🤨📸
She has that hottie psycho look

She is hot though - I can understand the freudian slip
The kind of girl you think maybe you could then take a look in her eyes and think, probably shouldn't. @@raymondjack902

Baylon did not said he was in the temple, he only "saw the temple burn".☝☝
I am getting the feeling, that Baylan has the same mindset as Qui-Gon.
Or hear me out, this might sound crazy. Baylen never had a direct encounter with Anakin. Its not like Anakin killed every single Jedi in the temple by himself. Maybe he just saw Anakin killing others, while he was busy fighting clone trooper and managed to escape.
Exactly, maybe Baylan was on planet and survived being ambushed by his own troops, come to the temple and witnessed Anakin killing Jedi while the Temple burned. Baylan would not confront as he had already been disallutioned by the Jedi council actions over the years and decided to walk his own path.
Those aren't just clone troopers, those clone troopers know how to effectively shoot down Jedi don't think he faced those clones either.
baylan is such a compelling charecter. devastating that this is the last we'll see of him. RIP ray
They'll recast him. He's too interesting of a character with too big of an untold story not to.
Yeah agreed. hopefully he'll be as appealing with another actor. Or they can work into the story why he changed appearances ie becaome a modis god or something.
Before that "General" reveal, I thought Baylan had a backstory like the Grand Inquisitor, a temple guard already disillusioned that was able to escape. General? That suggests he was older at the time than I imagined, and that his power level was already high. I am so sorry that Ray will not be able to continue the story. I hope that Shin is able to carry on with that legacy.
He was a Jedi knight
So general
He’s a bit older than anakin was
In the great army of the republic the Jedi was the rank of generals and some padawan was commanders (young padawans stay in the temple)
He was a Jedi Knight in his mid 20s. Usually you get knighted between 21-25 depending on your master, training and passing the trials.
Baylan said he saw everything he loved burned, but he never specified a temple, or that it burned in literal fire.
He never said he was IN the temple just that he saw everything he ever knew burn. As for knowing Anakin was Vader I doubt Luke or the new republic would’ve kept this a secret. So it’s not a stretch that he was out , idk, “boozing it up”and attempted to get back the temple but was already too late. He could’ve popped in and saw the same recording kenobi and Yoda saw of Anakin killing everyone. Personally I’m thinking your overthinking it m
😂😂😂 💯
I'm with you. I feel like a lot of these theories depend on a much too literal interpretation of dialog.
Ray Stevenson deserved an Oscar for his role as Baylan. His performance in it was so good, he made that character his own! like Heath Ledger . I can't believe he just passed away!
It’s a shame he passes. I love what he has done with the character
I remember Barris saying that a lot of jedi at the templo they began to become disillusioned with the Jedi order maybe one of them was Baylan
He was on his way back from late night taco bell. Saw it all and then turned around and left
Ahsoka is the best Star Wars Disney has made. Filoni needs to be given the keys to the whole franchise and be the new George Lucas
He has
Tbh last two episodes are great, previous ones where not that good, boring and hard to watch even. Consistency is what Ahsoka lacks. Also Andor is still by far better show.
@@qiufilms I think Andor is the best Disney+ show set in the Star Wars galaxy, but I think Ahsoka is the best Star Wars show.
Andor was boring, I barely got through it myself. It just doesn’t feel like a Star Wars show, it feels like a Drama with Star Wars sprinkled in, but that’s just my opinion. Ashoka on the other hand has been my favorite live action show so far
Nah. He just crams fan service.
If he was becoming disillusioned with the Order, Palpatine would have had a plan in place to recruit him like the Inquisitors.
I sincerely hope he was just another prodigy of the Jedi and a sort of rival to Anakin. The only reason Ahsoka never knew him is because he was always fighting on lesser known more brutal fronts. After all, Anakin was intentionally put in battles that were seen as politically important. He was also put on missions that would make him look good thanks to Palpatine pulling strings. They could add lore later on to put him in some pretty brutal battles which would greatly add to the character. If they really want to go deep with it, they could connect him to TCW and Bad Batch by making Gregor his clone captain until he becomes lost.
Baylan to Shin: _You will become the vessel for ABELOTH. Now let's put a smile on that face!_
She looks FAR too much like Miss Smiley. Baylan said she would be far more powerful. Understatement of the year!
I HAVE to believe that Luthen Rael and Baylan are some sort of alternate foils. They both decided to take different paths after they saw the failure of the Jedi in their force education. luthen shuts himself off completely to destroy what destroys him and Baylan wants to seek some sort of alternative force path
I can't believe Ray Stevenson died, but for some reason he reminds me of Gerard Butler. Maybe Gerard would be interested in resuming his part.
gerard or liev schrieber.
Be cool if Anakin could visit Baylan in a force vision and confront him on his conviction to do what needs to be done
Baylan was disillusioned by it all. The endless fighting and not seeing what was hiding in plain sight. Considering the timeframe, he would be closer to Anakin in age making him a fairly young general. His demeanor is more like Qui-Gon's (rather than Dooku). If his character has more of an arc after the series then I'd love to see another fun character actor of similar size and build like Kevin Durand take on the mantle of Baylan.
Baylan's age is an interesting point I've been trying to get to a figure on. I'd say he's somewhere in his 50s or 60s. That would make him a similar age to or a little older than Annakin. We also know Padawans couldn't rise above the rank of Commander, so for him to be General Baylan Skoll he would have had to be a Jedi Knight.
And apparently Dominic Purcell has been chosen as the recast for the role. Wouldn't have been my first choice but definitely not the worst.
0:48 AND Balen was a General at the time according to Thrawn when they first meet.
Balin might have joined with vader and the empire to become general after the empires call he became a mercenary
its going to be hard to make Baylan the Canon version of Starkiller considering The actor Passed away. So, either ALL of his lines, scenes, etc for every season of Ashoka is already done, and he is definitely getting killed off before season 2.
I'm sorry, what I gathered from his conversation with Ahsoka was that everyone knew how great of a Jedi Anakin Skywalker was, and very few saw what he became...that tells me that he's aware of his horrific fall from grace. Great Jedi to younglings murderer/Jedi Temple raider. I, in no way, took that as Baylan knowing that he became Darth Vader. Word was that Anakin died in the Temple. But, if Thrawn figured it out, I guess there's a chance that Baylan could've as well.
Remember that Baylan has shown that he can read minds. If he encountered Anakin or someone who knew his secret (like Reva) he would have been able to learn it that way. He could have even taken that little tidbit from Ahsoka's memory when talking to her.
I dont think Baylan was inside the temple , more he was outside and looking at it as it burned
Baylan was a General ; just as Anakin was..
Has anyone else noticed that they seem to have Shin's hair blowing all the time? I swear in one of these scenes they were indoors and it was moving in the breeze.
I know it sucks and people may not like it but if this character does not die at the end of this show he MUST be recast. I know it wont be the same but jesus this character is soo good we cant let it go even if we have to change the actor.
They will likely not recast and do the AI face and voice match with his extra
I would say he trained her to be more open minded about the force
Or he was speaking metaphorically and he was saying he watched the Order and the Republic fall, like everyone else alive then did. Also Anakin doesn't keeping saying that Anakin is dead because he is trying to preserve the fiction the Empire put out. If that was the case he wouldn't have said it to Obi-Wan while Anakin's face was staring out of the Vader mask. If you interpret his claims literally then I suppose you have to understand him as expressing some kind of dissociative identity disorder. But, again, I think it makes more sense to interpret him metaphorically, the way Obi-Wan meant it when he said that Luke's father was killed by Darth Vader.
I like,in this episode, that when the witches go “it reeks of Jedi” and everyone looks at Sabine and she is like “don’t look at me”. IMO, I immediately thought of Baylon when this was said.
Such a great video and show. I’m happy it’s getting better
Well, Vader says Anakin is dead to disconnect from his past even more. But yeah, saying Anakin died was useful to the Emperor, and made people fear him much, much more. But also probably would help prevent anyone praying on a weakness of Anakin. For Anakin it was for multiple reasons, mostly self-hatred and trying to disconnect from any decent part of Anakin, to fully be fuelled by self-hatred.
All jedi, padawan, knight, and master held the rank of General, during the Clone Wars. Ahsoka also held that rank, until she left the Order...
What Palawan was a general? Highest rank they held in pretty sure was Commander
No only Knights and Masters were given the rank of General. Padawans were Commanders so Ahsoka was a Commander not a General.
Just out of curiosity, anyone else notice that Thrawn’s ship is missing its light speed engines?
"I saw everything burn" can also be metaphorical. He didn't necessarily witness the slaughter first-hand. But his world burned down metaphorically.
He could have arrived right around the time obi wan changed the beacon to a warning and saw the temple burning. Either way i hope we get a flashback
Baylan says he was Shin’s age when he saw the Jedi temple burn so he must have been young, but then Thrawn calls him General so was he a general being that young? 🤔
Anakin was a general very young as well
As was Ahsoka @ Mandalore, no?
Yeah about the Obi-Wan Kenobi scene when Vader said Anakin Skywalker is dead I don't think it's because of the Jedi Temple i think its because of something psychological.. Vader is Anakin Skywalker but I think the way that a Jedi treated Anakin when he was a Jedi Knight I think it's f***** up with his brain it caused him to develop a split personality... a great example of that is episode 2 of Star Wars the wait Anakin was so different after his mother was dead he acted like a completely different person I believe that was the first time we ever saw Darth Vader on the surface of Anakin Skywalker that was the same Anakin that killed Count Dooku.
Baylan could have come contact with mace windu and windu moght have told him how anakin cut his hand and all. He could also be windu’s apprentice.
To be honest with u baylan and shin are by far my favorite characters in the whole show I just love everything about them the walk, the talk everything is perfect with these two characters and if you think of it he's not a bad guy at all he's just doing what needs to be done and that's it he doesn't care about the war and all that
Let’s get a rated R Darth Maul clone wars movie
this is what we need
I think what makes more sense is that he saw Anakin approaching the temple on Baylons way back he would investigate and see the carnage that Anakin caused
I hope that it could be another bendu perhaps a stronger bendu that has taught Ezra and now calls to baylen
I don’t think that Baylan could’ve been anacondas apprentice but it’s possible he could’ve run into Anakin in the temple, or perhaps seen the surveillance like Yoda and Obiwan.
Hey SWC, you are closing in on 1 million subscribers!
That's why Baylan had his hallway moment
It is possible we might actually see that flashback confrontation between Baylan vs Anakin during Order 66...
That is my dream
One thing that comes to mind for me is that Baylan is maybe around the same age group or maybe just a few years older than Anakin. He told Ahsoka that he spoke with Anakin and that Anakin talked about Ahsoka so maybe Baylan is one of the few friends Anakin had in the Jedi Temple. They are both Jedi Knights and maybe Baylan talked about his growing disillusionment with the Jedi. This might why he didn't talk about Baylan to Ahsoka because she might tell it to Obi-Wan, a Jedi Master in the council. Their friendship could be a contributing factor as to why Baylan survived Order 66.
Anikan had no friends lol he was bullied in the temple as a kid.
Seeing temple burn doesn't mean that he was in temple. He left Order mid Clone Wars. He might heave been on Coruscant and saw temple burn from far away.
Legit only took em like 8 years to come up with two original characters who are actually interesting and who you want to learn more about
Baylan is no sith. He is more balanced not seeking light or dark as he also signaled during the Ahsoka episodes. I do not think he wouldve been Vaders apprentice. He hates him and Ahsoka but not the entire jedi order outright. hating your master is more a sith thing. I also dont see sith turning away from the sith ways on their own, it is more likely he wouldve died in a confrontation with the emperor then as Vader wouldve chosen a point in time in the 20 years of empire to overthrow him
Questions we have... answers are difficult to see!!
Baylan has stolen this show, talk about someone interesting and multi-faceted!
Love that they just tore Lana Beniko from SWTOR and palette swapped her into this show lol.
I'm still skeptical, but this series seems to be going places - and I aim to find out where.
It's a good thing that they finally released the new episodes of SW: The Clone Wars.
Interesting thought… Baylan’s thoughts on what the Jedi could or should be are not unlike Ahsoka and even Luke’s beliefs. Powerful force users that use a balanced approach to the force to maintain peace.
always thought baylan was at the temple, he actually hints at it towards beginnin of show
He could have just seen Anakin from distance, he didn't have to actually get face to face with him
I have a feeling Baylan may not have necessarily turned dark as the series suggests. Maybe like Luke and a few others, he wants to rebuild The Order the way he envisions, but he has to play the other side in order to not get caught. I don't think Baylan is foolish enough to think the Dark Side is any better.
I wonder if they are grey Jedi. Practitioners of both sides. He seems to not suffer an overconfidence or egotistical problem and is always quite calm and unprovoked. It’s the only way you could be, by definition, something more. Yo I don’t want to be driven by rage, but still assess and get the lay of a situation.
Only those with enough hate and rage in their hearts survived their lightsaber impalements during order 66.
I have a feeling that the new Acolyte show will have some of Baylan's back story 🤞
Baylan wants to take every 1 out. Empire, rebels, sith, jedi, Skywalker's ect ect.
I pray we get another clone wars flashback but with a young Baylan.
Anakin ceased to exist and cemented himself as Darth Vader, when he killed those younglings.
Baylan and Shin are anti-villains as they fit in the definition of:
"antagonist who has or may have noble or honorable aims, but pursues them destructively"
Major reasons they are very captivating to follow through their quest with their fellow antagonists of Thrawn and his cohorts.
Reva escaped because clone troopers laughed their asses off when she told them she is a Jedi. Probably said to her "Of course you are" and Reva called them racists.
Viewers: man youtube recommentations are boring lately--
Star Wars Content: *Hello There!*
they should have a baylon skoll series. what happened to him when order 66 was activated and afterwards ... where he went, and how he came to be in the present; etc.
Dude, like 10s prior he said "this is a land of dreams and madness, children tales are coming true" he's Shakespearean AF and I'm pretty sure the phrase "I saw everything I knew burn" was ment figuratively not literally.
The list of temple survivors is growing. Anakin did a shoddy job lol. No wonder he was sent to the lava planet to do clean up work.
Looking at real world history and genocidal maniacs, you would expect that there would be a Jedi diaspora. Many would probably simply swear it off and live normal lives, blending into local culture. Especially considering many Jedi would have been off world, and lower ranking Jedi may not have been in combat positions. Thus, no clones to ambush them. When Yoda told Luke he was the last.. well. Maybe from a certain point of view. But it’s clear that was likely far from actually being the case. Most of them were interested in surviving rather than confronting an unstoppable force.
True, but Luke was the only one who had any chance of tugging at Vader's heart strings. (Discounting Leia, here) Obi-Wan though it was a waste of time, we know.@@chrishealton3830

At this point very few actually died at the temple.
Most snuck out some way or another.
Besides
Even if they died they would just come back to life again.
I still wish GL had gone with his original idea and given Vader his red lightsaber prior to the temple attack. Watching Vader use the red blade would’ve been better than what we got, but it’s not like what we got was in any way bad. I just think Vader could’ve thrown his old lightsaber away at the temple, for Obiwan and Yoda to find later. Watching those scenes now, but with the red saber, would be awesome 🤩
One that does not follow the laws, is not a leader of it.
More likely is that he never actually fought or encountered anakin rather he was there when anakin stormed the temple and he escaped with his life after killing some clones, like he ran away
Mace Windu is calling to him.
I feel like he was a Temple Guardian at some point.
Yet another Jedi survivor.
