    Cost alone should not be the criteria, we should avoid unnecessary imports. India exports Metro rail sets to developed countries too. I cant say the idea to import due to low cost was a sensible one.

Therefore that 50% extra cost has more advantages than disadvantages. Therefore better to do domestic sourcing as much possible.

      For all the hyper nationalistic people out there, a Chinese state-owned company won the contract with the lowest bid, but they couldn't fulfill the Make in India clause, so they had to tie up with Titagarh Rail Systems in Kolkata.
      So, for all the people shitting themselves about our Forex, rest in ease cause the Chinese SOE had to reinvest their dough here. :)

      trust me. these trains are going to be bad from an engineering stand point. These will be WORSER than what we already have. our existing trains are good. Pray it will not be deadly.

      hahah what a joke, north india has moved to bullet trains, metro is 2002 technology in north India, now we are getting rapid rail, and delhi has 300 metro station working, 45 under construction, bangluru still needs 20 years to catch up.

    Now, no new government project construction/engineering contracts can be given to Chinese firms!

      Also, the tech literally belongs to Alstom which is a French company. Only the first 6 train sets are coming from China. India has indigenous Metro trains as well as technology from European and Japanese companies.

    Driverless trains are effective in reducing operational costs in developed countries because the cost of hiring a driver is quite high. In India, where unemployment is high and the salary of drivers is comparatively much lower, a driverless train may not provide much of a benefit.

      No actually because of restrictions on the import of Chinese rakes, CRRC had to find a partner to manufacture these rakes in India. All further trains will be manufactured by Titagarh wagons. In order to facilitate this deal, there has been delays.

    Need more circular lines on the lines of outer ring road, multiple inner and outer rings, like onion layers. The more lines, better it becomes life on the road. Put heavy tax on gas, petrol, diesel inside Bangalore, so that people are forced to use metros

It currently takes 45 mins to go from North Bangalore to South Bangalore by car. This is the same time taken if one was to go by Metro from Byapanahalli or MG road to Kengeri. Why would anyone choose the metro if they have to hire a taxi to get to the metro station and the final destination?

    We are very disappointed that despite the unofficial call to boycott Chinese imports, a government organization like BMRCL haschosen a Chinese company CRRC to acquire this train. So much for Mr. Modi's policies. German companies like Siemens also make these trains.

      These trains use a lot of components from other manufacturers. German trains are much more expensive and China in recent years has the most experience building trains. Most of the technology is based on German trains so indirectly, we get German trains at a much lower cost.

      @@alileevil Not based on german Technology but it used Original parts supplied by Alstom Rails coaches are from China but it's Automatic driving system is from Alstom China also used its own but they use here Alstom driving system Automatic doors are From American company I think and Whole 38 Companies parts has been used in that metro. Even China itself given Order to Alstom to supply metro for China why? Did China is not capable to build metro on its own? Yes they are capable but they want To do these because of Government representation of Germany by giving order Them China creats a effect on Germany if they don't use any thing from any country than how can world will survive?

Chennai metro is well developed, much better connectivity, faster rollout & its *not* made in China. from wiki- "Metro coaches are manufactured by Alstom. The first nine train sets were imported from Brazil and the remaining were manufactured at a new facility set up near Chennai"

      Before 2020, Chinese companies had successfully become the L1 bidder in many cases like Bengaluru, Kolkata and Mumbai. They bid the lowest and due to no restrictions they bagged the contracts.

    As per initial estimates this had to be a reality in 2021 at least by the end of 2022 considering the Chinese virus pandemic. Now it's 2024 and they say it'll start to serve the nation this year end. Whatever the positive news on this topic, we the tax payers aren't satisfied with delays. Governments have taken tax payers for granted.

      Don't blame China, blame our hapless state-owned manufacturers like BEML, Integral Coach factory that are asleep at the wheel. These companies were established in 1950-60s. In 2019, we get the Vande Bharat that runs at 180 km/h. Meanwhile Shatabdi which came out in 1988, was capable of going 130 km/h. Compare this progress to Chinese companies. In 1997, Chinese trains were running at 160 km/h, much slower than Shatabdi. But by 2008, they made a train that could reach speeds of 350 km/h.

      Cost of RnD is very high. Just for the sake of India people don't invest in it. Trust me I work in Rnd sector and pay is pathetic and manufacturing technology scale is not like China. So authority don't care if it's china made. Cost is indeed lower in China than any other country because of scale of manufacturing tech. I hope.

    Shame on Namma Metro. The first trains were built by BEML with Hyundai Rotem as the technology partner. But in 2019, they handed the contract to CCP-owned CRRC! Absolutely shameful to fund a Chinese state-run firm.

    Although, metro trains are good and helpful, i do not think it may reduce the vehicle purchases. When metro started, Namma ooru was adding 750 to 1000 vehicles per day. Now, it is adding 5000 plus per day!!. So, more people will come in, more people will (hopefully) travel in metro and other public transport, but, vehicle population and pollution might only increase sadly!
