I am dissapointed 5 Tribes is not there... I am glad Tom accepted he knew we were waiting for it to be #1 🤣
Small World at #7 - outrageous! ; )
I’m going to seek out Fist of Dragonstones. That sounds interesting. My top 5 is:
1. Ticket to Ride
2. Small World
3. Yamatai
4. Five Tribes
5. Queens Necklace
Pirate’s Cove beating out Five Tribes and Yamatai is a take and a half
Spoilers much lol
Yea Five Tribes and Yamatai were my #1 & 2 DoW games respectively.
I'm with Tom on this one, to be honest. They are all solid games, so everyone can truly be happy. :-)

It's impossible to discuss the video in the comments without talking about the picks.
Pirate’s Cove is my favorite, behind Ticket to Ride Nordic of course. I also like Small World a lot!
Thank you Tom. Hope you and your family are well and happy
!
Yamatai and Five Tribes are tops for me, but I want to give some love to Cargo Noir! I know Tom has poo-poo’d it in the past, but it’s always gone over well with the groups I played it with.
I’m missing Yamatai. One of my favorite games, and the most beautiful in my eyes.
Days of Wonder has often been the gold standard when it came to amazing production. My favorite from them is still Memoir '44. I don't even own it all, but that is slowly happening over time. lol Now, if they would only reprint the Campaign Books again! ON PAPER!!! I've been wanting them for years now!
1. Five Tribes ; 2. Shadows over Camelot ; 3. Cleopatra ; 4. Small World ; 5. Yamatai ; 6. Deep Blue ; 7. Ticket to Ride: Europe ; 8. Queen's Necklace ; 9. Quadropolis ; 10. Small World Underground
I haven't played yet: Colosseum and Memoir'44
My favorites are Ticket to Ride Europe, Small World, Shadows Over Camelot, Relic Runner, and Five Tribes
Tom, I just played Colosseum recently based on your recommendation, and I have to say that although I went into it thinking it would not be for me, I was pleasantly surprised. We tried different strategies and it was anyone's game until the last turn (we broke the tie for first on money). And the Eagle Gryphon edition looks really nice.
And now you've reminded me of Mystery of the Abbey. I love deduction games and would definitely like to try this one, but it's difficult to find.
As already stated, not including Five Tribes was pretty big. I was also upset not to see one of my all-time faves, Mystery Express, which is a DoW game that initially got me into the hobby. My gaming group likes to refer to it as "Choo Choo Clue," and even with it being a 2010 release, it still hits our table at least a couple of times a year.
Does anybody know how come so many great games by Days of Wonder are out of print? Yamatai, Shadows over Camelot (and its expansion Merlin's Company), Mystery of the Abbey, Pirates' Cove, etc.?
My list: 1) Five Tribes, 2) Quadropolis, 3) Ticket to Ride, 4) Small World, 5) Corinth, 6) The River, 7) Pirate's Cove, 8) Mystery of the Abbey. I haven't played Yamatai or Queen's Necklace, but I imagine they would round out the top ten.
@ 8:06 I am glad Tom considers himself a seasoned gamer. The world would be a weird place if he would be classified as a beginner :P
Great list! And I believe the plural of Sphinx is Sphincta. ;)
My DoW list: 1. Ticket to Ride (Europe) 2. Quadropolis (owned for 5 years now and still hits the table regularly) 3. Memoir 44 (prefer the BGA version because of all the setup of the physical copy).
I haven't played a lot of those, but I'd like to. The one Days of Wonder game that we've always kind of liked that you guys seem not to like is Cargo Noir. We picked this up at the same time we got Pirates Cove, and I like Cargo Noir much more than Pirates Cove. (In Pirates Cove, it's really easy to lose a battle early and then not be able to recover from it.) I think the artwork and theme of Cargo Noir are pretty cool too.
I found a basically complete copy of Pirates Cove at a thrift store last year. We love it. It's a big hit with my kids, but also fun for adults
Love DoW games. My top 5 would be: 1-Memoir 44, 2-Shadows Over Camelot, 3-Ticket to Ride, 4-Small world, 5-Pirate's Cove. Great vid, thanks
Oh man five tribes is my favorite Days of Wounders game. In fact its my favorite board game... 😊
But I'm not hating on you Tom we all have games we love that others don't understand why..
I have in my collection from Days of Wonders: Ticket to Ride Europe, Ticket to Ride uk/pens expansion, Quadropolis, Small World, Small World Underground, Colosseum, Cleopatra, Five Tribes (my #1 DoW game), Yamatai. Perfectly fits 2 cubes on my Kallax and none of them are going away.
My goodness, not including Five Tribes is shocking. Such a great game. I own all the expansions and rank it in my top 10 all-time list. Glad he mentioned Pirate's Cove! Ticket to Ride, Smallworld, Memoir 44, and Shadows Over Camelot all are still great games. I need to try Quadropolis and Colosseum for sure.
Thanks for this Video 🥰
Good list but still from DoW my 2 favs ties in 1st place are Five Tribes + Artisans and Yamatai, Quadropolis gets a close 2nd place
1 - Ticket to Ride
2 - Five Tribes
3 - Colosseum
4 - Yamatai
5 - Quadropolis
6 - Mystery of the Abbey
7 - Small World
8 - Corinth
Never played Shadows, Memoir and Cleopatra but I’m almost sure these 3 would be on my Top 10.
Quadropolis is my #1 from them.
I LOVE Five Tribes. I know it's not for everyone, but I like that it has so much going on, and that you don't really know who's winning until the end. It does run a high risk of analysis paralysis, which is the biggest negative point.
I saw this video title and my first thought was what games Tom would put in place 2-10.
Of course he will place Ticket to Ride in the first spot!
Thanks
Thanks for the video do you know when and if they are going to reprint MM44?
Zee help! Five Tribes belongs on this list!
Tom hates Five Tribes and Yamatai, haha! Zee will give you the evil eye~ Thanks for the video. You rock!
Relic Runners!!!
I only recently arrived at the point where vanilla Ticket to Ride has gotten repetitive, and I need to get an expansion for it. I think that's awesome! And while I don't play Memoir 44 a lot, every game I had was awesome and is probably the most elegant conflict game I played, but not being oversimplified.
My favorite definitely is Yamatai, but I also really enjoy Deep Blue.
Battlelore 1st edition is still my favorite game. So beautiful 🤩
I’ll give Corinth some love
Good review, Tom.
What's your opinion of Key Largo?
(Similar to Pirates Cove, Designer of both Paul Randles)
Are there other DT Top 10 videos of different publishers? This one was pretty cool so I would love to see more of the same style.
The DT team are pretty good at making Playlists for Common themed videos like this --> czcams.com/video/cYsQ7U14BWs/video.html
I’m surprised that quadropolis was higher than Small World.
Has something Quadropolis move up for you? Or maybe something made Small World move down?
Smallworld is one of those games that I know other people like but I just never got on with.
Sadly Fist of Dragonstones is almost impossible to find from Days. Except for the version now printed by another company.
Nice to say that Fist of Dragonstone is there, but really no Battlelore 1st edition?
The only Ticket to Ride I would put on my list would be London or New York.
@@slothrob I could see that. Also, I feel a lot more controlled in my routes because of the limited number of routes in the middle of the board. This leads to frustration and the game seems to drag on after you get blocked.
If you continue this series I can’t wait for top 10 hasbro games 🤣
Seasoned gamer...mmm salt pepper or perhaps five spice..I missed Yamatai, which has a uniqueness and table presence would be in my top three...most want to play Shadows over Camelot. Thanks Tom great review
Days of Wonder needs to rerelease their Memoir 44 books or release BOTH the books on PDF.. The prices on those hardcopies are outrageous, and only one is available as a PDF. No response to questions on releasing this either.
Yamatai definitely is missing. But I’m not sure which game to bump from this top 10 😄
love me some Ticket to Ride, like you said it's great for its flexibility, play it with gamers, play it with grandma, it's just a great all-around game
I haven't played most of this list, bit Five Tribes is better than the 4 I have played! Was surprised not to see it here. Different opinions can spark a lot of fun!
I wonder if the out of print games on this list will ever be reprinted
I know it's not for everyone, but 5 tribes is the best DOW game
Five Tribes + Artisans and Whims is the perfect Days of Wonder game; just don't play with people who are too subject to AP!
Mystery of the abbey is my jam but no reprint and cost online is crazy
Ive had it for years but haven't played it because the rules don't make sense to me. What kinds of questions do you ask the other monks?
I love colosseum
Good
I want to play Smallworld.
1. Quadropolis annoys me because it isn't titled (a more correct) Tetropolis.
2. The Days of Wonder Colosseum is SO much better than the TMG reprint.
Heat Pedal to the Metal
There are dozens of us who don't like Five Tribes!
1. Five Tribes
2. Mystery Express
3. Ticket to Ride
...Mystery of the Abby is no where near as good as Mystery Express. The open-endedness of the questioning can lead to some game breaking situations with creative groups. Mystery Express has a much cooler theme with a less fiddly design.
This is when you wish you could "love" instead of just "like" a video
Did you list enough games that are out of print? lol
Most underrated: Yamatai - Better than Five Tribes!
It's kinda hard to be rated at all. It felt like that game was only in print for like 6 months. Lol
Neither Yamatai nor 5 Tribes? ...
Where can I get a copy of Shadows over Camelot? If I'm right, you can't buy it anymore...
Has anyone ever gotten to the end of a video and needed a reminder about what they just watched? “You’ve been watching the best of Days of Wonder” why do people do this in videos?
too bad you can't get most of these games anymore
Um, where’s five tribes?
everything but Small World and Ticket to Ride is Out of Stock for years in the EU, pff
How are yamatai and five tribes not in your top 10? C mon Tom lol
I honestly want Zee's list of this. The fact that there is no Five Tribes (and honestly no Yamatai) makes it so this list for me is meaningless. For me:
1. Five Tribes
2. Yamatai
3. Ticket to Ride (specifically the 10th Anniversary Edition or the 15th Anniversary Europe Edition)
4. Quadropolis
5. Cleopatra and the Society of Architects (I guess, this one is so far behind #4)
When I started this video I started it biased saying: Tom you better not put Ticket to Ride over Five Tribes. When it came down to number 3 I started to realize which way this was going...
Tom hates Europe(ish) games. Him liking Ark Nova is just a lie to please his audience ;)
When Pirates Cove was #10 I asked myself if Days of Wonder only made 10 games becase how else did that terrible game make the list?
Then Five Tribes and Yamatai didn't make the top 10.
I know everyone has different tastes....but yikes.
I can’t stand Smallworld. Top fiddly and annoying. Just sold my copy of Pirates Cove too. Don’t like that one. Memoir 44 takes the top spot for me. I own shadows over Camelot. Hasn’t hit the table yet
Sphinges
If Days of Wonder only made 10 games, Five Tribes still wouldn’t make my top ten Days of Wonder games.
I think people like a lot because there is a huge decision space. But I would argue that its also its biggest flaw. There is so much to consider that the only way to play in a reasonable amount of time is to shoot from the hip and make moves on intuition and hope other players don't see your plans and you can score more of the point salad.
I believe this is the first time I ever disliked a DT video. Oh well...
Wooooooooooow
No five tribes? Tom needs to retire. Bring Sam back to bring some respect back to the channel.
(This is a joke)
