    Double T,
    I just got to this video. I really appreciate you taking the time to explain all the variables and various units available from Garmin. I'm just getting into this stuff because, I have a 2014 Bennington Tri-toon boat with the Yamaha 350HP on it. The boat was fitted with a Garmin Echomap 50s on it from the factory. Well, that Garmin unit has been operating just fine up until a couple days ago. All of a sudden it lost charting. There's no contour mapping, no shore line, no coves etc. showing where we're at here in Lake Havasu AZ.
    Now, I know, lake Havasu's not that big but, I like to know my position and where certain coves and little hiding spots are. And this unit just lost all of that. Garmin tried desperately to assist me in updating the unit. But, that Echomap 50s is not accepting any updates for some odd reason.
    Soooooo, what this all means is, I think it's time to UPGRADE. The 50s was/is built into the dash and Garmin doesn't have anything newer that will fit into that hole in the dash. So, I'm gonna have to purchase a whole new unit. And watching your video has helped me learn on what I might want to go to. I surely appreciate it. Thank you.
    Scott

      @yeechia7233 not that I’m aware of, there are some thru hull transducers that support side vu but they would stick down past the hull. For kayak they also have a side mount arm that swivels up out of the way, it’s not ideal and gets in the way sometimes but you have no issue with hull interferences. @@DoubleTFishing working my way thru your series a 2nd time. I pick up more each time. Getting back into boating after a 10 year fly fishing break. Live in San Diego, buying a "pre-lived" 18 ft Grady-White center console that has an in-dash Echomap 74. Will put a T-Top on and wanted to add a small radar unit for safety when our fog rolls in off shore. Any way to integrate the current unit with radar or will I have to add a Garmin GPS Map Series and use it as a 2nd display? Guess I could take out the Echomap and put it on the front of the boat and replace its current position in-dash with the GPS Map unit if I can't integrate. From what I learned watching your information, I will not be able to share displays because they are diffent series, correct? Or was I just up late and got confused? 😅

    I intend to buy a fishfinder for offshore fishing. The depth of the sea where I want to fish is up to 70 metres. I have a small boat Pasara Vega 4,5 meters and a motor Tohatsu 5HP 4T. I was almost decided to buy a Garmin Striker Vivid 7sv + GT52HW, the price at which I can get a new one is between 500 and 550 EUR.
    At the same time, I am in a dilemma because at the moment the dealer is also selling a GARMIN ECHOMAP UHD2 72sv + GT54UHD-TM at a discount for 1.069 EUR.
    I fish trolling, I started with Slow Jigging, but I will be fishing a lot mainly for squid.
    Is my decision to buy the Striker for 500 EUR correct or do you recommend Echomap?
    I was looking mainly at the transcuder, so I was looking for a GT52 instead of a GT20, but I am aware that the GT54 is even better, and the Echomap fishfinder itself is better. The only question is, will I even need and benefit from the advantages of a better fishfinder?
    At the moment I have an old fishfinder, a Humminbird One Hundred, which serves me more as a depth finder, as I rarely see fish and maybe only in shallow water.

    • @DoubleTFishing
      @DoubleTFishing  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I do think you would gain in image clarity with Echomap but it sounds like you don’t really need the maps which is the most significant difference. You can build your own QuickDraw contour maps in your favorite spots, set waypoints, etc with the striker. With that said if the Echomap fits your budget it will give you the best chance of seeing fish at those depths, if your planning to use mainly traditional sonar the striker is probably fine. Just FYI the best match for deeper water when using clear and side vu is the GT56 transducer. Hope this helps Rick

  • @kevinokeefe7796
    @kevinokeefe7796 Před 8 měsíci +1

    I really don’t need maps but what other advantages do the maps version give you vs striker series

    • @DoubleTFishing
      @DoubleTFishing  Před 8 měsíci +1

      You get a more defined image, networking capabilities with other equipment such as a Garmin trolling motor. You can hardwire network two striker fish-finders. Basically the striker is a great standalone fish-finder but if you want future expansion, livescope connection and contour maps you need to get an echomap chartplotter. The image quality of a striker is pretty decent but seeing details such as fish separation from a brush pile in clear vu or side vu would be more difficult, for traditional 2D sonar and locating basic structure in clear and side vu they work good. Hope that helps

    If I could make a suggestion it would be that you're mispronouncing the name wrong. Echomap is pronounced "Echo" not "eco" which would be short for economy. I’m not an expert but if it’s just for navigation purchasing one of the new ECHOMAP UHD2 would be a reliable solution, it wouldn’t communicate with your existing chartplotter though.
