    One thing you need to know. The depth of water is subtracted from the range out setting. Using your screen for example, you are sitting in 28ft of water with a range setting of 70ft. So objects at the edge of your screen are not 70ft away from your boat, they are 42ft away from your boat. If you were in 5ft of water the objects at the edge of your screen would be 65ft with those settings. Hope this helps, tight lines..!

    • @donatasjankantas4739
      @donatasjankantas4739 Před 7 měsíci

      I think this is actually an incorrect explanation. I was thinking the same, but what we have to realise - fishfinder just measures distance to the object and not the surface distance. Ex - if depth is 28ft, then objects appearing 30ft away on screen are actually 30ft away (28ft down + ~2ft left or right).

    • @InstinctBassin
      @InstinctBassin  Před 7 měsíci

      Good point. I rarely use SideVu to actually cast to something from SideVu. I will usually use SideVu to find objects, then mark them with a waypoint, then go to the waypoint (object) using a split screen of my Navigation and DownVu. This finds the object 100% of the time, and I don't have to worry about whether the feet to it is completely accurate or not.

    Hello…I really enjoyed this video plus your follow up on 5 more things to do! I have a 73sv and looking at a lot of how to videos to help my learning curve. I do have 2 quick questions. You mentioned that you were not out on your boat when doing the videos so you used simulation mode using the predefined maps, not actual live recorded data. That interests me a lot since we don’t have enough room to keep our boat home and I was wondering what setup you use. My mounting connections are all on my boat where we store it, but I bring the trolling motor battery home to recharge it, so I was wondering (1) how do you enter simulation mode and (2) do you have another set of cables that run from your 73SV device to your battery to power it? I have the full East coast maps that include 17,000 lakes and rivers and I’d like to review these at home for ideas on where to boat/fish. Thanks for any suggestions…

      If it’s going on the trolling motor, the GT54 will fit better since it’s shorter. The GT56 may be too long for some trolling motors, depending on where the skeg is. But either will technically work.

    I just purchased the 73SV for my jet boat, mainly for the charts and navigating as Tampa Bay is pretty shallow in some spots. Before I open the box, can you save a route that you planed such as the ramp to a particular spot and create another route back?

    • @InstinctBassin
      @InstinctBassin  Před rokem +1

      Of course! I will say though that the 74SV is probably a better choice for Tampa Bay, as it will contain inshore maps instead of lake maps like the 73SV. Good luck!

      Depends on what type of fishing you do. If it’s a kayak, then the 7” is probably fine. If it’s a bass boat, then I’d go with the 9”, especially up front. The 7” is a bit tough to see detail on when I’m standing above it. The 9 goes on sale at least twice a year. Other than the screen size, everything else is the same.

    Hi,,, Very Helpful info, THANKS!
    FYI,,,,, I need to post a story, about a 'GLITCH' that just might save someone a lower unit!
    I fish NE Ohio, & Erie the most. I Just started to use the Garmin 93SV on our near-by lakes. No Problems there.
    We recently had a 3-day Erie trip planned with the family. First day/ first time out, a bright & sunny day,,, we went out of port & around the end of the breakwall, & suddenly the whole screen went black,,, I couldn't see a thing on the screen, & that was the spot where the bottom silt comes up to 2'ow.!
    That 'GLITCH', BLACK SCREEN, ruined the fams 3-day vacation. We had 3 days to find some eyes, & NOW, NO FISHFINDER!!
    At home, I called Garmin tec support. I Waited 'IN LINE' for 3 hrs, before I got a return call.
    The TEC knew about the 'GLITCH', aka lighting problem, & easily guided me through the set-up pages to correct "THE PROBLEM".
    The next weekend, I talked to 3 other GARMIN 93SV owners at my 75 unit campground, & they ALL experienced the same exact 'problem' & they also had to contact GARMIN to get 'THE FIX'.
    SO,,,, I'm here to tell you & anyone else who BUYS A GARMIN 93SV, to make sure your unit isn't in 'AUTOMATIC' CONTRAST or LIGHTING CONTROL SETTING!
    MAKE SURE THAT YOUR UNIT IS SET TO 'MANUAL' CONTRAST LIGHTING CONTROL. Set it around 80%, & go from there.
    I searched through many CZcams videos,, & nobody is mentioning this problem.
    Evidently, the electric eye doesn't diagnose the amount of sunlight that's hitting the screen, & the unit THINKS IT'S DARK OUT!
    THE SCREEN GOES BLACK.

    • @jdoboy6835
      @jdoboy6835 Před rokem

      Oh Ya,,,, one more thing.
      I removed the Garmin 93SV from it's mounting bracket, in order to take the unit home while I called GARMIN. I figured I needed the SN that's on the back of the unit.
      With those VERY SMALL positive & negating 12v ELECTRICAL CONTACT PINS, that are on the back of the unit, There's absolutely NO WAY TO FIRE UP THE UNIT when it's out of that bracket!? The boat & bracket were up Erie, & I had the unit at home.
      Is there an easy, SAFE way to power up this unit, when it's out of the bracket?
      THANKS,,,,, for any help. ;>)

    Not to be a pain but I have a question. My current Lowrance HDS10 Gen 2 has an issue with the screen constantly flickering off and on. I have an idea I have a bad battery and it is a low voltage issue. Does that seem reasonable? The battery is 3+ years old. I cannot afford lithiums unfortunately. It seems to work okay when the motor is running and the voltage is higher.

    • @InstinctBassin

      Sounds like low voltage to me, but it could have to do with how it is wired as well. Be sure to use at least 10 gauge wire to extend any power cables. Run either to the battery directly or at least to the console fuse box.
