  • Every year people are crushed between their bench and the grille of the car or truck they are working on by not following intelligent procedures involving remote starter switches. The Neutral Safety Switch in most vehicles won't allow the vehicle to start in gear. And some vehicles have a lock-out that won't allow the key to be turned to the "start" position on the ignition switch. But in some of the older vehicles, the ignition switch will go to the starting position, but the Neutral Safety Switch stops the cranking of the engine unless you are in PARK or NEUTRAL. One must use extreme caution when using a Remote Starter Switch. And they come in handy when doing a compression check, leak down test, or setting valves where the mechanic can stay in the engine bay to ascertain the information on the gauges in real time. They also allow starting the engine and getting to the carb or Fuel Injection right away. By making sure the transmission is in PARK, chocking the wheels, setting the parking brake, and standing on the side of the vehicle upon initial starting when using the remote starting switch is essential. Pushing on the vehicle to make sure the "Parking Pawl" is engaged and the vehicle will not move is also extremely important. Following simple safety protocol will ensure you are safe, and the remote starter switch a useful aid a mechanic can use to save time and money.

Great video... If you have a parking brake I would say make sure that it's in working condition as well. I would just use a home made tool to bleed down the lifter to see what I have..a solid isn't going to bleed down lol.. Had a friend run himself over with a 70 dart so I have first hand experience with double checking... Luckily he survived bruised but alive lol.
