    Maybe it was covered but make sure you are in neutral on a manual so vehicle doesn't jump forward

      The '"s" terminal is the smaller one on the solenoid. This terminal gets the 12V start signal from the key switch through the starter relay.

    Very interesting!

    So, at min 2:42, when you activate the switch and hear the starter whirring, but the engine does not crank or start. That indicates the starter or its solenoid --or both-- are defective , and need to be serviced or replaced ? Please confirm.

      I'm a little confused by your question. At 2:42 the truck in the video does start. This was a simulation of how to start a vehicle when there is a control circuit problem and you have the keys and a crank switch.

    thanks for this video. I have an old ACTRON remote starter switch.
    I am wondering if the same principles of connections would apply to my boat outboard motor, which also has key switch, starter relay, solenoid and starter, and of course a battery.
    thanks

    Where did you get those cool clips for your meter

    Why do you need to have the key in the on position? Is that just to keep the engine running? If you just want to see if the engine cranks, doesn’t the switch bypass everything by just supplying the starter motor with power?

    • @TheOriginalMechanic
      @TheOriginalMechanic  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Yes! For cranking you would only need the crank switch. I got this crazy idea to show that with a key and a crank switch you could actually start the car when something in the start control circuit had failed.

      @@TheOriginalMechanic thanks for the reply! I’ve got to test if rodents ate some wires from the ignition so I was trying to bypass the key to see if starter or battery are the issue. Nice to know I can do that with just the switch. Thanks again!

    What if I do this and it does nothing I have everything connected right it worked at first now it doesn't work at all no crank or nothing

      I'm assuming you have good connections on the starter and the battery negative or engine ground. I would look for a blown fuse next.

    Hi I seen your toyota Corolla video and I think I got the same problem can you contact me please

  • @AlwaysDiagnoseVehicleFirst

    Good evening sir hope your day is going well! I purchased the 12v remote starter switch from harbor freight that you show on the video. I know one alligator clip goes connected to battery positive terminal but then I don't know where to hook up the other alligator clip on the correct spot. Can you please help me out sir? I have a 2003 DODGE CARAVAN SE.

    • @TheOriginalMechanic
      @TheOriginalMechanic  Před 2 lety +1

      The other clip goes to the smaller terminal on the starter, sometimes called the S terminal. I believe on the Caravan there is spade connector there that you will have to unplug to connect the remote starter.

      @@AlwaysDiagnoseVehicleFirst No, leave the negative connected. Nothing needs to be removed.

      Nope- - Although this is a valuable tool for testing a starter and some other things, won't enable a person to steal a vehicle. It will ONLY turn the starter on the newer cars--- it will NOT energize fuel and other systems needed to actually run an engine. Not to mention locked steering mechanisms, etc. etc. etc.
