    Any gasoline engine needs the same three things to work: the proper air/fuel mixture, solid mechanical compression of that mixture, and a good spark to get the burn started.
    Today on the Trainer, let’s focus on spark - specifically, how to verify the engine is getting what it needs from a C.O.P. (Coil-On-Plug) ignition system.

    I wouldn't call your first voltage test on the live side a loaded test as the engine was not running. There was no demand on the circuit as it wasn't getting pulled to ground. Nice video.

    If I wanted to connect just the trigger wire only to the scope. How do I do that? Do I probe the positive test lead to the trigger pin, and the black test lead to chassis ground or do I use the ground at the connector?
    And to test the feedback wire, do I place the positive test lead or probe on the feedback wire and the negative on chassis ground or on the ground at the connector?

    I have a '95 Maxima. I used a spark tester, it's showing yellow spark, I don't know if that means a weak spark or not. The spark comes on and goes off for about half a second and comes back. Coil plugs, and ign. condenser seem w/i spec. Could any one of them cause the intermittent spark?

    Sir on secondary coil there's two end,one end is going to spark plug and the other end their's a forward bias diode connected then goes to ground, as per your diagram sample. I'm confusing sir,if 1st coil energize then de-energized magnetic field will collapse to 2nd coil which fires the plug,now since we know that current always flow through less resistance,why does the current flow through spark plug where their is high resistance due to plug gap,instead it will flow to passing the bias diode then to ground? And no current will flow to plug due to gap high resistance. Thank you sir god bless you always, hope you will take attention for my question😊

    hello sir, i have a 2003 dodge ram 2500 5.7 hemi with cop 2 wire, change pcm and checked wires with ohms tester and seems all good but i cant get spark to coil pack 4 code giving is p0354, 150 psi compression on cylinder 4 any ideas of what i can check thanks

    • @MotorAgeMagazine
      @MotorAgeMagazine  Před 2 lety +2

      Use the techniques I shared in this video to check the coil. First, look for system voltage to the coil with the engine running. Then switch your meter to frequency and backprobe the ground side, looking for a trigger. Check the resistance of the coil compared to the others as well. If resistance is lower, the coil may be bad and it may be damaging the PCM driver. Hope this helps!

    • @rustedhorsepower5132
      @rustedhorsepower5132 Před 11 měsíci

      I'd move the affected coil pack from its current location, IF it is a bad coil damaging the pcm driver, then the next location driver will also drop. In my opinion it's most likely in the wiring. A waekon COP tester can also help you cheat and see signals to the coils while running. I know your comment is a year old, but what did you find?

    So if I’m scoping 3 or 4 wire Ignition Coils I do not need to place an attenuator?

    • @MotorAgeMagazine
      @MotorAgeMagazine  Před 2 lety +3

      No - you aren't connecting to the primary coil directly when connecting to the coil as shown in the video.

      so in this case since you can't get primary wave form from a 3 or 4 wire coil connector, a tool to measure secondary on coil boot must be used?
