Dota's complexity is both its strength and weakness. LOL purposedly and intentionally made the gameplay simpler than Dota to attract new recruits (mostly casual gamers and non-gamers) while DOTA stayed true to its roots at the risk of discouraging new players to the game. The hope was that its complexity will eventually attract gamers who are willing to spend many time and effort to play the game at least in a respectable level. Both require strategies and teamwork but Dota is just way more complex to grasp if you are new to the game.

Dota is like chess and lol is like checkers. Most people know how to play checkers since its easier to learn. But the few people who learn how to play chess knows chess is more enjoyable and intense due to its complexity.

Perfect explanation. There might be a complexity in checkers, yes, but the fact that its beginner friendly, its much more approachable like LoL. Dota, on the other hand, either you really really like the game to start anew or you're just a veteran from the Frozen Throne's All Stars because the complexity is through the roof.
There was even a point in time where I had to count the number of BKBs the enemy uses so I can count down the seconds remaining in his immunity, or I had to keep on chopping a tree beside my lane so I can aggro the neutrals for a x:54-x:57 stack after enemy creeps from the lane is dead plus there are also times where I had no mana anymore and my magic wand is stacked, but since I want full efficiency, I dropped my mana boosting items, brought down my mana cap, and used it so that it will retain the same amount of % restored when my mana cap was low if I equip my mana boosting items back on. It was very very detail intensive.

i play both games, even if i started out with dota, and the differences gets bigger as you delve deeper into the game. In many ways LOL is like a dumbed down, arcade version of dota 2. No denies, no stats, no stacking of camps, spammable abilities (not having to plan for cool downs, except summoner spells with long cds)

Ive been playing league of legends for a lot of years, and been playing dota 2 for a bit of time, but i admired it both. But i prefer the gameplay mechanics of Dota 2
if you would've shown a lol player that most heroes with scepter have 5+ abbilities and most of the items are active, they would have a heart failure
I played both games. Dota is a hard gamr to play, I prefer that. I agree it's more of an art. But league is more.. arcade. It's fun but quite simple in my experience.
i have a friend who struggling playing dota 2 even in low rank like herald gurdian crusader..he said dota is so hard thats why he switch to league of legends whoala in just a couple of months he gain diamond rank now hes already challenger..the player and the game say it all he said lol is so much easier compare to dota.

im a dota 2 player and switched to lol in 2018 just because im a fan of gidle who is in kda (yea i know its a dumb reason but its the truth). I've played Dota for 9 years and Lol for 3 years and counting. From what are experienced both games are very different, its has a very different feel when you play it so i wont decide what game is better. BUT if i decide who has better pro scene, i'll DEFINITELY CHOOSE DOTA 2 PRO SCENE,
1. Pro teamfights are Amaazzing
2. Casters are incredible
3. Panels are 5head gigabrain 1000 Iq
4. Games are just unpredictable

As for lol pro games are so stale, (watched EVERY LOL Pro Scene since 2018- Msi's, Seasonals, Worlds etc.)

After Ti10 i watched few worlds game because it feels very anti climactic after Ti (you know what i mean). But after a few matches of worlds, i think its better to have this anti climax feeling than watching that shit.

Theres actually no death in a teamfight, despite those super flashy skills. 30-40 minutes game with only 10ish death ? wtf. I feel pitty for the casters, they tried so desperatly to think what to say next, because nothing happens.
I truly believe, if dota pro players go to LoL (maybe train for a year), they'll demolish them.
Easy comp is magic the gathering and hearthstone. One is accesible easy to pick up and play the other has much more depth and more to master.

Im avid dota player in my high school days, then in college i decide to only play LoL due to limited gaming session times and just want to rilex after tiring days(i only likes moba)....nowadays, after works, only play mobile legend/aov on my bed or couch, not even bother to open my pc...being older and having work really makes u become more lazy to play long and complex game....i still like to watch dota but to play it nowadays hmm

ive played both games and im diamond rank in lol but its hard to climb mmr in dota im stuck in legend i can clearly say dota is much harder complex just to put in perspective to lol player laning phase in dota is so hard compare to lol for example u can gain money in lol just standing even u dont kill the creep but in dota u need to fucking last hit and deny to make money deny creeps are important to make ur enemy lvl gap and not gain money ..lol not punishable game even u die more times ur gold wont affect but in dota u die a couple of times ur gold will be lost so again lol is much easier even my 7 year old nephew can play lol without any hussle but in dota u need a fucking years just to play it better or just to learn how the game works i must say dota is far better and harder than league.just play lol if u dont wanna stress your self its easier and not punishable game but if u wanna play mind and hard games play dota2

I'm playing Dota and League simultaniously almost daily for years. Dota is more complicated and LoL ends quicker since there are no creep denies , glyph on towers. Dota has bizarre item and skillsets and LoL has the fast pace , more numbers of clash, ganks and CC , and more role adaptation since you have to stick to your very role/position. Those two are great games tho. Dota is harder 60/40. But lately, Riot games is getting better than Valve on matchmaking and Dota has a lot of players disconnecting while playing with minimum penalties than League.

League has less CC, only the jungler can reliably gank (except for fringe support cases), and there's basically no role adaption, every role has sub roles and that's it. For example, support has enchanter support, who are squishy and cast spells to stop people diving their ADC, and a tank support, who is tanky and positions in front, making it hard to dive their ADC. There are no other support playstyles. Not saying LoL is bad, just that what you're saying isn't all correct. I'd say both League and DotA have a similar number of 'clashes', but it really depends on rank/mmr. Certainly at a pro level this is not the case, where it's common to have total kills in a league game be less than 20.

In League you have so called franchise league, earnings from Tournaments cuts to orgs that bought pleases to compete, players have salaries over x10 than top tier dota players and above that there is multiple official levels of compete like university leagues, states, city, etc. And there is like 2 worlds one is MSI, and main event. In DOTA pro tournaments, just few orgs. that hosts Tournaments are really good at that, everyone else are just for sake of get a cut from Valve money bag, at the same time Dota's prisepools are diveded between winning orgs+country tax+transaction % (but that % is dependable).

I'm going to be honest I played Dota2 more than 4 years ago and I think the game is more complex and ballsy. While LoL is simpler team comps are predetermined. I think Dota2 team comps are constructed by scratch and any hero CAN be played vs LoL its the same fucking 12 champions in pro play while they have over 120 champions. I haven't played Dota2 in years but I do love watching clips and montages or hearing Dota2 comms that's my perspective

I play dota since it came out in W3 as a mod. LoL's advantages are: more fights, better balance around items/hero skills that can single handedly win a fight (i mean i love BkB but when an item is necessary on every hero of a game, then you know the balance of the game is just awfull) and waaaay more skillshots (which is both more difficult and rewarding for the player). I mean just consider why people play Pudge/Mirana/Clock. Now apply that on literaly almost every hero of the game. Its more FUN. Yes i still love Dota and its complexity, but many times it feels like playing Starcraft with all the resource farming and micromanaging items etc, it doesnt feel like a 5v5 fight-focused game.
