- Our friendship with artist Johnny Fraser-Allen comes full circle as he reveals the Jim Henson's Labyrinth pinball machine that he's been art directing for the past five years--a job he got after pinball makers Barrels of Fun watched his first Tested video he filmed with us back in 2017! Johnny and the team at Barrels of Fun walk Adam through the making of this incredible machine and how it captures the storytelling and rich landscapes of the classic film!

Lovely machine, I had a great giggle when I saw this. Because I loved this movie. Curious did the fun lil caterpillar at the beginning. Make it into the machine?
Any consideration for shorter people or kids with the back LCD? it looks like the goals are displayed at the bottom of the screen, which is hard or impossible to see if your head is at the same level as the wall in front of the screen.
So bummed I just found out about this and it is already sold out😢😢😢. Please consider another run of these!!!

Pinball is one of the most amazing applications of electronic and mechanical engineering. I'd love to see Adam do a whole documentary-style deep dive on its history.
As a fan of Adam Savage, Tested, pinball, Barrels of Fun, and this machine specifically, I cannot stop smiling at this video!!! It is so cool to see what goes in to the creation of a pinball machine. There is heart, passion, art, and engineering all wrapped up into one machine.

Labyrinth pinball sounds too cool. My father would have loved this. He loved Jim Henson's work, Mythbusters, and pinball! Thank you for this.
I have a DVD of the labyrinth, loaned it to a colleague for his 6 year old son.
It was about 4 months later that I got it returned, my colleague said "I know every single song by heart", his son wanted to watch it every other day, so highly recommended!
Got to play this machine at Expo and fell in live with it.. The team absolutely killed it and brought this world under glass to life.. cant wiat to play it again and cant wait to see what Barrells of Fun makes next!
As an ex pinball machine engineer I really like this. Love the use of the screen at the back of the playfield to add depth and animation. Nice to see that under the playfield is just as wonderfully hectic.
I am not in a position to have something like that but it makes me happy to know that this exists in the world.
The art on these playfields has to be appreciated close up, there's so much detail!
This is a great thing. I own a 1974 Gottlieb Sky Jump pinball machine (Electro-Mechanical) and the difference in the innards between that and this is like comparing a Ford Model T and a Tesla Model S. Sure, they both have many of the same features and concepts but how they get from A to B are worlds apart.
Where my machine is stuffed nearly to capacity with wires, relays and motors this machine is comparably barren. The various changes to serviceability and ease of access to components was very interesting to see. You can tell that generations of design have gone into making everything easier and more accessible. The simple fact that the playfield not only lifts but slides forward as it does so and has handles on the inside to aid in the process seems like such a simple and obvious thing, but in my older machine lift the playfield is like lifting a 50lb car hood with virtually no where to hold on to other than the edges. Another great change is being able to open the front of the back glass rather than having to pull the machine away from the wall to remove the back side. The miniaturization was expected, these quality-of-life improvements were unexpected.
Amazing how much difference nearly 50 years of design can make. But I guess we did go from first powered flight to breaking the sound barrier in less time than that.
Hearing about all the types and styles of artists coming together was fascinating I really like how he got into that detail.
That, right there that Adam has his lucky hands on, is my ultimate dream. pinball machines are nostalgic and so so iconic, just like the labyrinth and so to combine the two together is just insane levels of happiness
Both the world and New Zealand owe a lot to Peter Jackson for opening doors for kiwi creatives to be unleashed on the world stage, it is so awesome to hear that accent in these spaces...prior to LOTR, it was very rare thing indeed, thanks PJ!

I would play this machine for hours while listening to Voltaire's newest album, The Black Labyrinth, which is also a massive tribute to Labyrinth. This machine is just so wonderfully crafted.
Huge pinball fan since my not yet wife worked at a golf & stuff in the late 90s and had one of the hugest pinball table selections I’d seen up till that time all housed in a miniature castle. Ballys and Williams were well represented (maybe all available at the time). I still play though mainly digitally these days.

Great to see pinball video on Tested! Pinball is one of the last items made mostly by hand. The biggest manufacturer is still in Chicago and really only the PCBs and sculpted parts are made in China. The rest of the components, cabinets, solenoids, etc are made in the USA or Europe. There's so many disciplines in making a game, there's electronics, mechanical engineering, software engineering, art, game design and manufacturing knowledge. And it's HARD. Barrells of Fun came out of nowhere with a complete, commercial level game, which is crazy, since coin-op is mostly a dead format of gaming except for a few thousand hobbyists. There are been SO MANY pinball company failures in the last 20 years so to see someone quietly build a complete game around a great niche license is really cool.

As a life long Labyrinth wanderer and pinball lover… I’m so happy. Thank you for all your passion and hard work creating this. I hope i can play it one day but knowing it exists is enough. Sarah is my favorite character so it kinda kills me that you intentionally left her out but i understand why. haha
I was wondering that too. Then I figured it could only be one of two things. A licensing issue for Jennifer Connelly's likeness or they intentionally left her out so the player could play as her role.
I got to play it at an expo a couple weeks ago. It's a great game! I'm so excited to see what they do next.

As a big Labyrinth fan, this is just incredible. The finished backglass is the only acceptable one, as there is no Labyrinth without Bowie. If I had the cash, I would own one of these no matter the cost.

I only knew about the D&D channel coming out because one of the podcasts I listen to has a good relationship with Mathew Lillard and his company "Beadle & Grimm". A couple of them appeared on his show, "Faster Purple Worm Kill Kill" and they promoted it during Gen Con this year.
You guys all have the coolest jobs!!! I loved this so much. I'm a huge Labyrinth fan and we had a pinball machine in our basement when I was a kid, we played it all the time. Such a cool mash-up of my teen years.

Oh man, I remember playing _so many_ film pinball machines! Creature from the Black Lagoon (great multiball!), Demolition Man, there was an Indiana Jones one, Top Gun, Terminator 2, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I spent three weeks playing the Back To The Future one in some canteen while on holiday in Spain, Jurassic Park, Star Trek: TNG, The X-Files.

I used to play pinball many years back. Loved it. I never see them in any pubs round my way. Not played this one but I saw Labrynth 3 times when it came out. Good film. Great art in the film and here on the pinball machine.

Where can I get one of these?!?! I rented the Labyrinth vhs so many times, the store owner gave me my own copy. Then I bought it on laser disk, and then dvd, and then digital. I have some promotional pieces the video store gave me, as well. 💜
