I went to high school with him in Appleton Wisconsin “Appleton East High School”. 1974. At that time he was known as Bill Dafoe, last name pronounced as in the the 1975 video. His father was a doctor.

I like Willem Dafoe because he's one of the best actors ever. In the 80s and 90s you didn't have to look perfect to make it in good movies. One of my favorite Dafoe movies is To Live And Die in L.A.

And out of nowhere he sends back a picture with autograph on it after like 4 years. I was so happy that time and shocked! By the way I sent the mail from my country Sweden

My aunt lived in Appleton, Wisconsin, where Willem Dafoe and his family is from. She always pronounced his last name Day-Foe (she called him "Billy Day-Foe"), which suggests to me that was the way his family usually pronounced their name. Unlike most stars, who change their entire name before becoming famous, I think Willem Dafoe just slightly changed how he pronounced it.
