Dream World was such an amazing game. I got so many Pokemon from that game and played it almost every day. Wish I still had some of those Pokemon

I also loved it. I hope they make an app or alteration to Go when they eventually remake Gen 5. Now that we all have smart phones to play it on it will be WAY more fun, functional, and engaging.

I don't remember what computer I played it on, but I definitely still have it. Whether or not it works is a different story.

@@bigdoggo5827 That stuff takes up space. A older member of my family had bloody 1.4 Gb of that junk on her phone browser app. The most I let built up on my PC was 400 MB cache. Half of that was from my browser. That was from two days of used. Delete that stuff & whip it bro. All those junk files.

Gen 3 is the best set of games. 5 games that all give a great experience but FireRed is my favorite 🐢
I actually played pokemon dream world it was really fun!
Man, I'm pretty sad. I used to play a ton of Flash games, Dream World included, but any cached stuff I had got nuked a year or two back due to some technical issues on my 15-year-old PC.

I used to spend HOURS on Dream World. It's unfortunate that I had a habit of reinstalling windows during that time. So it's impossible for me to collect any cache data to contribute :/
Does that actually make a difference? It’s worth trying.
@@wolfiemuse Browser cache files aren't usually kept during a reinstall. They're typically considered "disposable", since their main purpose is to save you from having to download a site again if it hasn't changed. They're also one of the first targets of programs trying to free up hard drive space when it gets low (which tend to refer to them as "Temporary Internet Files"). And reinstalling Windows usually includes a full format of the hard drive, so anything not explicitly backed up and preserved is gone.
I played Dream World a bit back in the day, but even my data-hoarding self never kept cache files. Pity, it would be nice to have a fan version online, especially one that the games could be pointed to and communicate with (likely by setting a special DNS in the device's network settings). Black was the first game I played since Red, though I kinda fell out of the series again soon after.

@@TyphinHoofbun In my humble opinion, you're not missing much. Gen 5 was peak. I've suffered through (Ultra) Sun/Moon and Sword/Shield was alright Legends was super repetitive after the newness wore off and Scarlet/Violet is somehow worse than Sun. I only stuck around this long because of my friends, but Scarlet was the final nail in the coffin.
So many virtual worlds revolve around the same message of this video. I’m currently spearheading a search for the lost Goosebumps EnterHorrorLand Flash game and so far have gotten only one person who has the cache. Bringing us to 57% completion compared to the measly 5-6% we started at. Sometimes all it takes is one person to get these things found.
I was so sad when that game shut down!!
With each passing year we discover new things that Pokémon was hiding from us. How long will we not know that it existed?
I...think I have I might have a faint memory of seeing Pokemon Garden stuff back on fan sites, or maybe it was just a custom map pic someone made. Sometimes I'd like to look at fan-made sprite stuff.
could have been pokemon crater, a fan MMO made using not flash, but procedurally generated webpages to let you catch and battle pokemon. Or any of the fan revival projects. They both used similar assets and would have cropped up prior to gen 4

You could access the game with japanese yahoo account. if u live in japan or know japanese and have japanese yahoo account then probably? but otherwise its probably crater.

Man I feel special knowing I actually played a mythical lost media game. I remember playing dream world alot in order to get pokemon with their hidden abilities (I was probably a tad older than it's intended audience but damn it I wanted those hidden abilities) I remember I liked the cave game the most as you got ghost types and evolution stones easier which were more valuable when ported to the main game
I would love playing for the same. I even recently found my dream world rotom!

Pokemon dream world was such an amazing part of what made gen 5 so special. I hope that there's enough to bring it back some day.
Never heard of Pokémon garden seemed interesting. But omg dreamworld! I loved dreamworld! I was so sad when it closed down and it was a good way to get mons with there hidden abilities in gen 5. I would love to see this created again!

Oh man I really loved the idea of dream world when playing black and white, if they could bring that back out would be huge!
Normally I’d say no but they could definitely bring it back. The only problem is you’ll bring it back once they make the GEN five remakes and it will likely be in the form of a mobile game

I don’t know about additional spreads for the spread seems to be primarily from GEN 3
I think Gen 4 breaking the sales trend at the time was mostly just due to the addition of online features like the GTS and online battling. The game as a whole was just such a big step forward for the series, and it's my personal favorite generation. :)
Poke Mania cooled down slightly for a couple years is all. Not that deep.

Man, Dream World was such a chill and soothing game. Sending your Pokemon to the computer and interacting with them, finding other Pokemon to bring back with you, it was sweet. And the music... *MMM~!* So good. You can easily find the soundtrack on CZcams if any of you who never played it are curious.
And I fondly remember getting Arceus from the Dream World as part of a special event. I hold onto that Arceus proudly to this day!
Damn this is wild. I had seen Pokemon Garden before but I always thought it was a fangame, not an actual official product.
When I was a kid I always assumed it was a fan game too. It took me two decades to found out the truth lol

I played Garden but that was like at least 4 computers ago. Seems like this was before Google was the mainstream search engine and at the very least my parents would have used Yahoo Japan, which is likely how I found it.
Don't think I even heard of Mazeland and Sky Tower before. I had both W and B2 on release but barely touched Dream World, with how helpful the trading communities were, I never felt the need to get into it for myself
Maybe if you ever played it at your grandparents' or other people who aren't good with computers and might still have the old one around!

What a wave of nostalgia I got seeing Dream World again. Getting those hidden ability pokémon was so much fun as a kid, it really awakened my battle strategy mind by thinking abilities more often. Great video!
That makes three instances of time machines before Sada and Turo. Man they were really out of the loop.
What were all of them? I missed how Garden had one but heard it.
@@morgancrabtree6248 the first was in Gold, Silver, and Crystal at the corner of the second floor of every pokemon center. Bill made it in his basement and set the time span to three years. It really was just an in universe explanation for connectivity between gens 1 and 2. The second is from the anime where Team Rocket was using a revived Tirtouga to open a rift to the exact moment in prehistory where the pokemon died. The rift was closed when the pokemon went back into the past after evolving. Those two plus Garden makes three time machines before Scarlet and Violet.

@@andresmarrero8666 The fact that the Time Capsule exists means that Sada and Turo weren't even the first in the main series to have a time machine. Pokémon Garden is an obscure Japan-only flash game and the Tirtouga thing is in the anime which is another thing entirely, but even with those Bill was still ahead of the curve as he did it first.

I wonder if reviving dream world would let us use a custom server to have full functionality with gen 5 games. That would be awesome!

I didn't expect Pokémon Dream World in this video. A couple seconds in the soundtrack and I was crying of nostalgia.
I have an old 2006 computer and when I was younger I had the habit to never delete anything because everything represented a memory to me.
Probably I have the cache data for Dream World, and I also played the limited time area for the Reshiram/Zekrom film.
I will plug in the old PC as soon as possible and contribute with my data
UPDATE: Well, no luck. Neither computer had anything. Disappointing.
I used to play Dream World a lot because of its QoL features for Gen 5. I still have computers from back then in storage but they haven't been turned on in years. I'd be surprised if there's any browser data from Dream World but I'll try to remember to check (I have bad short-term memory...).
Write it down on a sticky note or alert somewhere noticeable, that helps out a lot :)

Yes, this weird online flash game caused a spike in Pokemon sales. Nothing to do whatsoever with Diamond and Pearl being the first DS Pokemon games ='D
Especially if it was only limited to Japan and not the rest of the world, it wouldn't really make sense outside of Japan
I'm not saying it had any impact, but I doubt dpp being the first ds games mattered either considering RS got nothing for being the first GBA games either.

@DigiMaster236 No, it definitely mattered. Ds had a lot of sells and more sells. The console has the more ppl who would get it and it kinda came at a time there was kinda a new gen/wave of ppl too with ds being their 1st console

I still have my pokemon caught from dream world in my garden in pokemon white. It just looked too cool to get rid of. But I doubt I still have the computer I played on.

Gen 5 was the first generation I didn't get the chance to play until after its online stuff was already gone (though I just barely missed it!). I'd love to see the Dream World restored so I could experience it myself. Also a shame I don't have any computers that would have Flash games still in their browser cache, otherwise I'd absolutely do my part to restore whatever bits of things were in there!
I really hope this gets Shared enough. I am generally curious about this and would love to see this.

I was aware of the others but never heard of Mazeland, it looks like something they could do for a puzzle smartphone game.
Dream World was freakin amazing. I remember playing it before I even got a gen 5 game. Fennel would let you use her Muna, you could only encounter gen 1-4 Pokemon, and you could only keep a limit of 10 Pokémon without a gen 5 game. I wish I could help with the restoration, but I don't think the computer I used to play it on works anymore. Hopeful if/when gen 5 gets remade they could have a version of Dream World baked into the game so it never gets lost again (wishful thinking, I know).

man i remember exporting my cookies, using some batch file i got online and somehow trusted, importing the modified cookies and be abkle to choose ANY possible mon from the dreamworld to be sent to my games
sadly i dont have the cache for it since i only used it on a notebook that slowed down and got formated in hopes to speed up again
Short correction from someone who was there when the Dream World shutdown, it did not shut down in 2014, it shut down in late 2013 in order to update the Global Link site to work with Pokémon X and Y. This was about half a year before the closure of the Nintendo WFC for the DS and Wii. I remember being so upset when it closed, and then shortly after we were given the news of the Nintendo WFC closure as well.
Dream World was such a cool concept. If only I still had the computer I played it on. It's as long gone as the game itself. I really hope that one day it can be rebuilt

Dream World was so interesting in how it was integrated into the games with the little subplot with Musharna. I played it back in the day but sadly that computer is no longer around
Oh dang I remember Dream World, and I remember the launch was a disaster that couldn't handle the massive amount of traffic it got. I actually have an old laptop from the time that launched, but getting it out and running is such a hassle and I'm not even sure if it can connect to the internet anymore. Maybe someday I'll open it up and see if I can send any flash cache over... after all, one man's cache is another man's treasure
Oh dang I remember "playing" Pokemon Garden for a day or two. IIRC there was a lot of official art that I personally had never seen before, like Brendan and May fleeing from rayquaza on their bikes.

As a kid I never thought they’d get rid of the dream browser, because it was so complete and good and felt like a core concept. I really would love to rediscover in a video just what was going on on there and what I may have accomplished. And man it’s wild to think the cache is so important I didn’t even realize this until now and I’m 26. I wonder what computer I was using and what I could provide that’s profound!

Who knows, maybe one of that game's devs contacted DYKG after watching this video and sent them all the files, and it's been completely restored and'll be made publicly available soon.

I'm sorry WHY do we not still have Pokémon Garden? This sounds ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Imagine having a game like this on the switch that served the same purpose as HOME - stores your Pokémon, but also let's you interact with the playerbase worldwide, see the history of Pokémon, and everything else.

I remember catching a special Munna in Dreamworld!! I was so sad when they shut it down. You could leave pkmn in the dreamworld, and I think mine got lost when it shut down. :(
