FortNine put me on Helite, been riding with the Turtle 2 for a few months now. Texas summer was pretty brutal with the extra layer, but being confident that my neck and spine will be stabilized is worthwhile. I'll get the rucksack sometime in the future, seems like a smart consolidation of gear. Cheers.

Congrats on the new job mate 🙂 I can't wear a rucksack while riding due to a shoulder injury, even a skinny Camelback with water bladder wrecks my shoulder in no time, be interesting to see if one of these without the bag would still cause me issues. I've been using a Helite adventure jacket for years. Warm in the winter and well ventilated in the summer. Clicking in is second nature, I don't even thing about it anymore. I did get to test it out in a parking lot accident and even at an almost zero-speed tip over it fired and protected my hip and back from impact. I'm a trauma nurse and so I value gear that keeps me riding.

In helite’s own videos you can also see the airbag extending
below the rucksack to cover the lower back, but it doesn’t seem to do this in the demonstration with Ryan. I wonder why.
Apart from that, the Turtle 2 seems safer because it also protects parts the side of your torso.
I’m also not sure the shoulder airbag parts of the rucksack blow up as much as the turtle 2. If they don’t you’ll have less neck/spine protection, but it was a bit hard to see properly in the demonstration.

And I would agree with you the turtle definitely has more protection for the user I tend to use my rucksack more for work as I like the functionality of it and I commute on a monkey bike but I do prefer my turtle for longer faster rides , and I definitely believe it is better to wear any air bag product than to not wear one at all ☝️

I did a lot of research before I bought my turtle 2. Coming back from Colorado in July it was over 100°. None of the front venting was impeded by the vest so I stayed comfortable. I also was wearing my cooling vest so cooling was at it's best. Since I have 3 helmets at over $800 I didn't think this was money poorly spent for another safety feature.

Still too expensive. Same money on a crash helmet? Not a chance. You don't have to buy Arai or Shoei. There are loads of proof around that cheaper helmets are just as good safety wise e.g., Scorpion Helmets or HJC. Most people I know don't spend half on the helmet of what these vests cost.
I have nothing against having a CO2 vest on me if it helps. But paying (here) about 600 euros for one is not an option. And I know for a fact that ALL riders I ride with feel the same. We have discussed it. Lower the prices and save more lives.
