This drummer does not get enough recognition. That's a fact. Dude is amazing!
Just like the rest of the band doesn't. And that's because they don't "fit" in a genre and this world needs to catalogue everything in order to understand it. I'm a drummer myself and I've studied drums since I was young and that means I'm well aware of Buddy Rich, Ginger Baker, Gene Krupa, Purdie, Weckl, Mr. Steve Gadd, well well well!!!... And with all due respect - massive - to all of them, I've never listened to any other drummer that'd fill the spectrum so completely. Carter has everything - his drumming has colour, massive dynamic, body, intensity, groove, beauty, taste, class, complexity (A LOT!!)... I don't know, you name it...
It's not by chance that he's known as "Master of syncopation"... 😏

@@jorgemestrinho7805 well put. Carter is an absolute legend. I’ve had a lot of people say they don’t like DMB.. until I take them to a live show. They’re blown away by the energy coming from the band and the crowd.
That bass player was a beast , to keep up with Buford the drummer that kid on the bass is absolutely amazing, the whole band was great
Those that know music, know he along with the other band mates are/were the best in their respective disciplines. I was in high school in the mid-90’s and heavily into the metal/hardcore scene. Guys from bands I was friends with turned me onto DMB as they were in all of their skills and styles and I’ve never looked back. Same with Dream Theater. Another band with musicians that other pro and celebrity musicians have mad respect for but the general music consumer knows nothing about.
this song is all about partying with close friends around a camp fire passing a bowl having a good time and being in love with everyone around you... i love it

Billies are police in South Africa. He was tripping on acid partying with police on a beach in South Africa. It was one of the best nights of his life and he wrote a song about it.

this band does not get enough recognition by many people around my age/generation. i’ve been listening to dave since i’ve popped out the womb and only a view of my friends have even heard of him.
20 years later.. his fucking concerts still sell out in less than a day.
Some of my best memories were going to those concerts with my older brother and his friends and being like “cool “. Which we all were, for being there. and I want to be there again, gosh dammit.

It might be more than 20 years since my ears got to know The Dave Matthews Band and the sound of Carter Beauford and I'm still searching for something that surpasses it...

People unfortunately can't hear the difference between a good musician and a bad one. They listen to what the masses tell them to listen to, it's pathetic really.

I'd rather listen to something like Mahavishnu Orchestra if I'm going for musicianship. DMB has too many overtly commercial aspects that detract from their talent IMO. But, I respect their talent.
They're definitely a tight band...amazing musicians making complex and meaningful music.

First DMB song i heard that i was aware was DMB - i was tryna look up something drum related then a video called "how to play like carter beauford - seven ways" came up or someth like that.
i just thought why not just look up his name. this same song cam up but with his special drum cam video instead.

Favorite part of summer is going to see Dave!! When you go to park ppl are tailgating, playing corn hole (and other games) and blaring Dave. Sooo much fun.

Every day I hum some song from Dave Matthews. When shit gets rough, I know what song from their treasure trove that will lighten my mood. I've been blessed to see them twice. I know that my count is low compared to those more fortunate monetarily, but I remember how grateful I am. They move me in ways incomparable. I wish to see them at the Gorge in '18. My dreams come true as I set them. Just in 2015 did I realize that my desires should be met along with those of my children. I've been a mom for 22 years, and I said f it. I'm going. The first concert reminded me of how precious time is. Imagining the first time I fell in love with music.....I was 22. Coincidental, yes, but it took charge of my life...floated me to places I knew I would never see. I decided this year, I was going to see DMB again. No matter the cost. Any band that can awaken your soul and stick with your brain and heart for longer than a momentary lapse in judgment is worthy of a light bill. I am going every year until I die. A promise I made to myself once and for all last year. I matter. And DMB coaxed it out of my mundane and often fruitless life. I write this because we forget that everybody is human. At the end of the day, we all feel.

There are no flies on this act. Songwriting is off the scale. Arrangements are unprecedented. Imagine sitting in the control room and listening to the final mix. You should hear this DMB stuff through my Sennheiser reference monitor headphones.

Took my wife to her 1st DMB show and 1st trip to Alpine Valley 2022. 2 Nites at Northerly 2023 and Farm-Aid in a few weeks. She went from liking 2 or 3 songs to now joining fanclubs wearing Dave Ts and my Alexa is practically on a Live Trax loop. It's amazing how seeing DMB live can do that. 😉
the whole band is very skilled- one thing I find comical though, you see Dave playing guitar so hard, but can never hear a note...noticed that in quite a few videos, this ones the same. one of the best things though, they always appear to truly enjoy what they are doing. their cortez the killer with Warren Haynes is probably my all time favorite video- and i'm mostly a Pink Floyd fan LOL

Does it get any damn better?? Dave is on par with any other song writer in history. Created his own genre of music. With the help of his band's input, of course. I mean who in the world influenced the DMB? There's no similar sound to draw from. Maybe it's a South African creation that conjured itself to being. Once a generation!! Good stuff!!

Pearl Jam with some elements of progressive rock (I hear some Yes in their songs) and a lot of different jazz stuff. They just create a fascinating combination of genres and the way he sings is the most original thing about it. I never gave this band a chance. It's awesome what the DMB does and has done. Period.
