Nice vid ! Bought this lens few month ago for my A7C, and I'm super happy with it ! It's super good in every condition, and I would definitly recommend it at 100% !
I was thinking about this lens for my A7C as well glad you like it. Although not sure if I want this or the new 28-70.
@@pdotc The main advantage of the 28-70 in my opinion is about the weight (+ the price) as the 24-70 is a bit heavy (and more expensive). But I really need the 24mm so this is why I go for the sigma and not the tamron 28-75 few month ago (as the sigma 28-70 wasn't annouced yet) and I have no regret.
@@jimmyertzer Ok I see. The price reduction and newer lighter lens did appeal to me. Wondering do I get that and then get a wider prime later down the line or just stick with the 24.
I’m looking at selling my a6300 and my lenses for this same setup. Anything you dislike?
Thank you for comprehensive review. I bought the lens about the week ago and have been very pleased with the results when used with the A7ii.
thank you for the awesome tip of putting a UV filter to prevent dust. other CZcamsrs mentioned the dust problem but did not provide a solution.
Good to hear, since I finally pulled the trigger yesterday, and my copy arrives tomorrow :)
You will love it. I adore mine. It is a beast with an A7R IV with stills.
@@braunshugar1 faced any dust issues?
Excellent review, thank you
Thank you!
Been loving this lens on my a7S III. Trying to convince my buddy to return his 28-75 for the 24-70. lol
Do you suffer from the dust issue as well? I'm trying to research if newer items are better sealed :)
@@SkipperGeffen I honestly haven’t had it long enough to have that issue yet! I have a DIY mist filter (plasti dip and a UV filter lol) that I keep on 99% of the time, so I probably won’t see dust for years. I just know it’s been fantastic for me and I use it all the time!
Have you had any dust inside the optics ? Apparently very common issue with this lens.
This review was the best one I’ve seen on this lens 👍🏽. Thank you!
Thank you!
Great review as always. Thanks. I appreciate your photos of Bratislava. It's a beautiful city. I would love to visit some day.
Thank you!
Right around the 6-minute mark you spoke of barrel distortion and I think you were speaking about the Sigma 24-70mm F2.8? Does this happen with all video with this lens? Thank you. Great video. I bought this lens as soon as it came out, but it has been in my closet 3 or 4 years.
Awesome review as always! A fantastic lens!
Thank you!
I never considered the extra weight providing more stable footage… Deff need to try this lens!
I'm thinking of getting this with an A7III or A7IV (depending which is most recent by the time I can afford it) for travel and potentially a tiny bit of astro at the wide end
You’ll want the Updated DG DN late 2021 with the A3 or A4 it’s top notch.
@@Oakcitymedia how do u know the updated one and old one difference
I like your reviews!! Keep going!
this video confirmed everything for me, bout to buy! SUBBED
Thank you for the the in-depth review
Always my pleasure!
not only the gimbal is a beast!
So tempting to upgrade from my 28-75! Probably when I upgrade to A7siii
Good review - as always!
A couple of questions:
- Is it possible to adjust and update this lens while mounted on a Sony camera, *without the need of purchasing and using the Sigma USB Dock?*
- Is this lens compatible with the Lens Compensation functions [aberration corrections, that is taking care of vignetting, chromatic aberrations and distortions *in-camera!]* in the Sony cameras?
Thank you! Yes, all of that is possible.
@@TheHybridShooter Thank you!
Good video sharing bro. Keep posting more video. Thank
Thank you so much. This video made me buy one ;)
Greetings from Slovakia 😉 did you have a chance to try also Samyang 24-70 f2.8? I am trying to decide between Sigma and Samyang. Thx
Hey, first of all: nice video! But I have one question. When the Freewell UV filter is on the lens with the magnetic cover, is it possible to put on the lens hood? Thanks in advance. Greetings from Germany.
Nice review thanks! I look forward to your possible future review of the new more compact Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 Contemporary Lens, as compared to this Sigma 24-70 and Tamron 28-75.
Thank you! Unfortunately, I won't be reviewing 28-70, since I have no access to Sigma review units and buying it wouldn't make sense for me.
Excellent review, thank you!!!!
Always my pleasure!
Great review. Congratulations. From Brazil.
Sigma it's producing some insane lenses for the price. The art series it sure does take a lot of business from the big names.
Thank you for the review. ❤️
You're welcome, thank you for watching!
can sony a7iv handle the weight of sigma itself, or should i use an adapter for that ?
Of course it can. It is E-mount lens, you don't need any adapter.
@@TheHybridShooter i am not about compatibility. i am about sigma's weight. does camera need any support not to damage lens mount on its body ?
As I wrote, yes, it can handle 3x heavier lenses. Adapter can't be used anyway.
@@TheHybridShooter ok, tnx for help :)
I heard that it collects dust from zooming out, it sucked surrounding air, so the dust will be under the front element
I explained that in the video.
Great review...you may have just convinced me on this as opposed to the Tamron though I may wait until your Sigma 28-70 review🤞🏼which looks like it may be a better fit for an A7C. Cheers.
Thank you! Unfortunately, I won't be reviewing 28-70, since I have no access to Sigma review units and buying it wouldn't make sense for me.
@@TheHybridShooter Ah... no worries. I'll let Sigma know to send you review units ;-). Thanks again!
Someone knows why I can't change the aperture opening when A mode using this lense?! 😢
Great review!
Thank you!
What’s the low pass filter? How do I add it to my camera?
Since the G2 version of the tamron 28-75 has come out, how would you now compare this to the sigma 24-70?
The answer would require a sperate video, it is possible that I will make a comparison later on.
Awesome review! I just ordered mine today. I was wondering, how do you compress your videos for youtube? I've been using handbrake with solid results but am curious if your using something else. The video footage looks really good.
Thank you! I just export the video in Premiere Pro and upload it.
@@TheHybridShooter Cool, good to know thanks!
@@TheHybridShooter your export settings?
Does Sony make a telephoto (70-200) yet for the A7S3?
thanks for sharing this information
You're welcome!
Super review!
Once again thank you for this. Do you know where in the zoom range you get the highest reproduction ratio?
If you mean maximal magnification, it should be the same throughout the whole zoom range.
That’s good to hear about the dust problem thank you for the awesome long term review!
You're welcome, thank you for watching!
I always look at your videos and amaze how beautiful the location was where the footage was taken. Please tell me the name of the city. One day maybe I'll be on vacation there.
Thank you, it is Bratislava, unfortunately, the pictures are better than reality.
Thanks for the great review! Did you get the chance to compare it with sony's 24-105?
You're welcome! No, I have never used that one.
@@TheHybridShooter i see. By the way, is it comfortable enough for you for daily use and trips? Or you prefer other setups
@@SkipperGeffen It is fine for me.
Thank you for this video
I was thinking of buying this sigma 24-70 and from time to time i want to buy 2 primes. Do you have any advice on what to buy? For video and photo. Can this sigma replace primes?
.
If you are looking for a first lens(es) 24-70mm zoom is a better choice. If not, it depends on what other lenses you already have.
@@TheHybridShooter Thanks!
Yea it would be my first lens for sony camera.
Thank you for sharing! I am planning to get Sony7c with this lens mostly for low light videography. Can you share why Sony7c is not ideal? What other body would you recommend? Thank you :)
A7C is a great camera, it will just be a little bit front heavy with this lens.
Nice review 👍
Thank you!
At 1:08 you are saying the Tamron is significantly sharper... If that's so why should I go for Sigma? To only get 24mm instead of 28? some more buttons, but more dust and weight? Is it really worth going to Sigma? Help me to decide!
I was talking about Sony FE 24-70mm F2.8 from 1:02 so I said that the Tamron is significantly sharper than Sony 24-70 GM, not sharper than Sigma. Here is the comparison - bit.ly/Sigma24-70vsTamron28-75
Does E mount means it'll autocrop to and only use parts of the censor? I'm looking to replace my 28-70 sony kit lens. Just wanted to make sure it is true 24mm or at least wider than the 28mm on the kit lens I have. Thanks for the video!
No, you will get real 24-70 range, if you use it with a full frame camera of course.
@@TheHybridShooter Thank you, just found the channel, very helpful! subbed!
Thank you for the video
You're welcome!
Hi! There is a photo mode at 8:05. Are you sure eye tracking works in video mode with Sigma on A7S3? Other bloggers said it doesn't.
Yes, I am sure.
@@TheHybridShooter great news, thank you!
Well, so much for winter...
Fortunately...
I heard about the dust issue as well. Do you know whether Sigma fixed it with newer units? Undecided between this, the Tamron, and the new Sigma 28-70.
No, I don't know. Using a filter is an easy solution and the overall price is still less then half of the GM...
Sigma did say that they are going to fix it with new units
how large is the dust issue?
it is explained in the video.
How is your experience using the Freewell VND and magnetic filters on this lens? I'm thinking of getting them, does it vignette at 24mm at all?
Very good, there is no vignetting at all, not even on ultra-wide lenses.
@@TheHybridShooter Wow great to hear. I picked up the lens yesterday after watching your video. Thank you!
I like your location.. Which county is it place?
great review
Thank you!
Awesome Review Bro :)
Thank you!
Do you think this lens and camera is good or filming cinematic sports clips?
Yes, it is.
@@TheHybridShooter if I was tracking movement would it be quite stable?
Depends on the type of movement and depth of field.
@@TheHybridShooter thanks for response
I cant wait till you gwt your hands on the new sigma primes coming out
That is very unlikely, I have no access to Sigma primes and I don't intend to buy them.
@@TheHybridShooter welp, there it is
Thank you for yet another great video, roughly around a year ago I ended up buying Air 2 after your review. I've got a question about this lens: is it actually 70mm since I heard people saying that it's actually around 65ish?
I don't really know to be honest, I will compare it to another 70mm lens later on.
I love my copy of this lens but I wish it wasn't so heavy...
I love my Sigma 24-70 but this bad boy is heavy AF lol. It is a quality item though.
It's weird, when I first upgraded to a full frame sony, from my a6500, I wasn't prepared for the heft of the camera. It felt impractically heavy. Then I got the new sigma 105 macro, a pretty heavy lens itself, and it really balances the whole thing out. Hoping I'll get the same effect from the 24-70.
It is still significantly lighter than the GM or Panasonic 24-70...
@@TheHybridShooter Is it? The GM is listed at 886g and the Sigma is 835g- that's not a massive difference. Especially when the Tamron is 550g!
@@catnapwat Yes, it is 56g lighter than inferior GM. It is also 105g lighter and than comparable Panasonic. Tamron is not a comparable lens, so that is not relevant.
Thank you bro...
I currently use the 24-105 G F4 lens as my sole lens for now. This may be the endorsement I needed cause I wanted a faster all purpose zoom lens. I'd be giving up the OSS but It means I have to be more steady with handheld shots now haha.
Any opinion from you would be appreciated!
If you use the active stabilization you will be more than fine. With the lens weights plus active stabilization you'll be good. Check out chris brockhurst channel
@@northparkfilms3045 Thanks man! I was thinking about that. Do you have the lens yourself? What's your experience with dust in the front element (some people say "newer" production models don't have this problem anymore).
Cant wait to till the 28 to 75 contemporary come out
I can wait, Tamron has been offering one for years...
@@TheHybridShooter i guess im just more a sigma brand loylist lol
i bought the tamron just a few months before this lens was announced, a little bit regret : P
that 4mm difference is a lot huh....
@@IKIGAIofficial yes quite big difference
How would it pair with a Sony a7ii ?
Very well.
Sigma best for sony a7s2
I don’t understand about dust problems? It is wheater sealed? How is possible that Sigma don’t correct this? I’ve just buy one and very happy with that. I don’t want use a uv filter against dust.
There isn't much to explain... the dust will get inside, UV filter seems to be only way to prevent that. That is all that I can say about that.
pro mist solves issue never take it off
Would the only reason to get this over the tamron 28-70 would be the focal length?
No.
Timisoara?
No, I have never been there.
I am confused. Doesn’t the dust come inside from the barrel when it is extended? How does the lens filter help?
No. It comes through the front element, so the filter obviously helps by sealing it.
@@TheHybridShooter It get in where the lens zoom extends and sucks in dust , its not from the front unfortunately, protection filters wont help , but supposedly Sigma have done something to the rear seals in later models but have said nothing officially for some reason
@@robinprobyn1971 No. Most of the dust comes through the front element. Cleaning videos clearly show that. The zoom action creates the suction, but there won't be any dust on the front element to suck in, because the filter prevents it from getting onto the front element.
@@TheHybridShooter The video is how to clean it best not where it comes in though..Alot of people used front filters and it made no difference , Sigma are replacing seals in that zoom area .. they were apparently "too good" and sucking in too much air through the vents, but its not from the front , that would be an easy fix. You can find all this information on line , I have this lens and did a lot of research before buying .But its unfortunately not coming in through the front element, an older model with a front filter wont stop the dust , you will have to sent it in for a service
@Robin Probyn So have I (obviously), with exactly opposite findings. I also took a picture before and after I installed the filter. The amount of dust gathered underneath the front element during the same amount of time has greatly reduced after I installed the filter.
Cleaning videos show that all of the dust is right underneath the front element, which proves that the suction is created by the tube, but the dust gets in through the front element.
I will be picking up the A7C what do you recommend between this or the new Sigma 28-70 coming this month?
Depends on whether you prefer zoom range or compact size.
@@TheHybridShooter well they are both pretty similar in range no? 24-70 vs 28-70? Well let me tell you what I will be using it for. I am a A6000 and A6600 past user. I recently sold my A6600 to move to the A7C because I am use to the form factor and like being able to now get a full frame sensor. I will be doing basic photos of friends family members and pets. I also will be doing some CZcams video on the side in my spare time and am looking for a kind of do it all starter lens until I can get more glass. The 28-70 appeals because it is newer and a couple hundred dollars cheaper.
@@pdotc 24 and 28 isn't similar, the difference is pretty big. 28-70 should be sufficient for photographing people.
@@TheHybridShooter I apologize I am by no means a professional, just looking at the numbers. Would you recommend just buying the 24-70 or buying the newer 28-70 and then later pairing with something like the 20mm F1.8?
@@pdotc I can't really help you with that, both options are good, so it comes down to your personal preferences.
The 24 to 70 is stabilized I believe
No, it is not.
Seems like more of a fan boy review... have you shot with the GM or the Canon Lii? Bokeh on both of those lenses is superior IMO. Not to mention contrast, color reproduction and distortion. Otherwise very thorough and appreciated review. Cheers
No, it doesn't. Only with GM, I don't shoot Canon. What I said is nothing new, GM is notoriously average, Sony desperately needs Mk. II version of 24-70. Sigma is much superior basically in every way. This Sigma and Panasonic 24-70mm f2.8 are the best 24-70s that I have tested in terms of bokeh.
I have the sigma 24-70 sony dg dn but it has terrible vignetting!
No, it doesn't. It is completely fixed by in-camera or profile corrections, maybe you need to turn those on.
@@TheHybridShooter I use the A7s3, where are those settings exactly?
@@SuperFilmregisseur shooting - image quality - lens compensation
@@TheHybridShooter thanks, do you have all those 3 settings on auto?
yes
A nedostává se tam ten prach zoomováním?
Dostáva, ale dá sa to výrazne obmedziť filtrom, hovoril som o tom vo videu.
The Tamron is most certainly not “significantly sharper” than the GM lol
It absolutely is.
@@TheHybridShooter you’re the first I’ve heard who’s said this. The Tamron is a great lens, but everyone typically agrees that the Sony is superior.
I never heard anyone say that. GM is widely criticized for being rather average, that is no secret.
Sony really need Mk. II version of 24-70 with better optical qualities. I hope that they will release it this year. Both Sigma and Tamron are much better options at the moment.
hello my friends!
I have the sigma 2.6 to 4 version it's good . g master is a scam to me
I'm not sure what do you mean by 2.6-4 version. There is no other version of this lens.
@@TheHybridShooter I have the sigma sa mount for the DP Quattro I'm pretty sure it goes the F4 at 70 m m
As far as I know, Sigma doesn't make any 24-70mm F2.8-4. This DG DN is completely new optical design, so there are no other "versions" of it.
@@TheHybridShooter I would have to go look at my version actually I think I got it confused I think it's 17 to 70 let me double check . It's the one that the owner of Sigma himself uses .
