Mr. Jordan, this is one of my favorite videos you released. I am a 58-year-old, VERY average Joe practitioner, train twice a week on average, total hobbyist, in year 14 with BJJ. You shared principles that, for me, are easier to remember. Learning the mechanics is important but sometimes, the number of details can be overwhelming in a series of technics. But there are numerous times I have no idea what my partner is doing to me but to remember "Keep elbows tight" or "Keep my butt low" or "Keep their feet off of you" is easier to remember for us old guys. Thank you for all the great content!

Every time I'd figure one of these out (often through Priit Mikhelson/Chris Paines videos), my jiu-jitsu experienced a quantum leap forward. Even at advanced blue belt I still have a few to internalise (lost gold in a tournament recently by not finishing the sweep/sweeping myself), but for beginners, this is pure gold. Unfortunately, whenever one of them asks me for help and I point out that they are making one of these conceptual mistakes, they go away unhappy that I didn't give them a specific technique/details.

Purple belt here. This was great. I caught myself reaching up from bottom the other day. What was I thinking?!
I appreciate videos like this from black belts, because they see these things as basic things that every BJJ fighter should know not to do. They're obvious, or so they seem. I'm always questioning "am I making these common beginner mistakes?" Great breakdown, and there are a few in here that I should really focus on. I'll be referring back to this video.
Also, LMNT is life. I use it daily, for preparing and recovering from a hot day working outside on the homestead, and the same for BJJ classes.

Good stuff. At a higher level, I find focusing on only a few techniques to be a lot more effective than trying to learn everything I can. Build a ground game from various positions and drill those techniques constantly. So many new guys I talk to want to go straight to learning cool inversions and submissions, but I think many miss the point that you don't want to have to *think* about doing these moves, they need to come naturally in the situation. This is where I find the repetitive drilling/live drilling ups the game immensely.
In my year of rolling, I see my core techniques gradually getting better and better and once I'm happy with them I'll move onto others.
