This is the problem that Iâve had studying Jiu Jitsu; the lack of clear and pithy principles useful for every belt level. Thank you for bridging that gap.
100%. So many people are still stuck on showing the technique of the day. It's the in-between that is the majority of grappling and taught the least.
This is SO TRUE !
I totally agree with this comment. Of course there are important details with every technique but understanding the key principles is so important to how well you can pull it off for real.
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu concepts like this helps alot more than learning hundreds of different technique. ive always heard get my elbow to my side, but it makes more sense to say prevent underhooks and keep them out your armpits. ive learned alot from the john danaher videos and gordon ryan like onse talking about controling the inside space. placing frames inside their wedges which is apretty much a joint. hips knees elbows etc
@@skmfkr2 That's awesome to hear, James! Yep, principles are super helpful - especially because you can apply them throughout a vast number of different moves. Whereas focusing "just" on techniques will often lead to information overload.
I hit your fake guard pull to ankle pick in a tournament and got gold!!! Thank you for you amazing content. You have helped me improve my game so much. đ„đ
I use that move a little to much
âHell yes brother!â
*insert hulk hogan meme here haha
@@lofteyyyyyyy3437 haha I use it too much too
Happy to help! Blows my mind to be helping so many people around the world. I'm so grateful to be able to do this đ
Can I get a link to that move?
A whole seminar in 11 minutes for FREE, you bet Iâd buy any instructional you put out đđŒ
đ
Brilliant video so educational
This video is amazing. You're the first to explain Bjj theory in this format. So many things make sense now! Thanks for your awesome content, I'm from Montreal :)
Happy to help! Come train sometime. Only a 4 hour drive đ
Thank you for the video
Seriously!!!
This is Literally the BEST bjj theory lesson for lower-mid belts that youtube has ever had, imo. I'm really grateful for you sharing your thoughts and experience with us.
As you said on IG, this really is one of your best videos yet, - if not the best.
Thanks!
Yes, I would ABSOLUTELY pay money for a long form Jiu Jitsu instructional on theory. This is the stuff I come to your channel for. I can find techniques anywhere but concepts and theory are what sets your channel apart. Iâm here for it!
As a beginning whitebelt, watching you prevent and fight out of bad positions is super helpful, and this idea of inside position was probably the biggest thing that was missing in my understanding of the game. I've been watching a lot of instructionals on how to escape x position, but understanding the fundamental concepts is much more useful.
I appreciate the way you explain things that Iâve had to learn through mat time and muscle memory over the years but never had words for. The way you explain concepts is so much clearer than the old adage âPosition before submission.â Thanks for your hard work on this. Youâre contributing meaningfully to the jiu jitsu community!
I agree, this is so much more applicable than showing a technique and saying "try it out guys" , Jordan presents a concept then shows many live examples of said concept! Excellent!
Thank you so so much for this! This is exactly what I'm always trying to improve. You are one of the greats sir! You and Brandon Mccaghren are running the game.....
Thank you very much for the kind words! Let's see what we can do about collaborating with Brandon on a video, too. :)
Man, you make the best conceptual content for hobbyists who donât have the time to study and drill complex systems for many positions. Great quality and presentation too. Appreciate it!
Would love to see an âangles beat framesâ video in the future.
I find "Concepts and Principals" based training helps me most. Being an older grappler, I found the "Bottom Half Guard" instructional very helpful. You bet I'd buy your theory video. Thank you.
Fantastic video and explanation of inside position.
We lost our school during the pandemic, so a few of us (4 white and blue belts) got together and continued to âtrainâ as much as possible with sharing videos and concepts. Your channel is high on the list. And we are so close to you that we are planning to come and see your class :)
Ha, love the quick Ricky Bobby sound byte in there (7:54), "I'm not sure what to do with my hands"
I still believe this is your greatest video. Changed my game as a white belt and reduced how much I was being submitted.
Not allowing myself to get submitted allowed me to perceive the positions I was in and how to escape.
Hey thanks man! I think it's best as well. I'm going to make more just like it very soon :)
Jordan this is probably the most helpful bjj video I have ever seen. Incredible! In 2-3 years of training, I always perceived my lack of a proper knowledge base/fundamentals, as classes always turned out to be 2-4 techniques from whatever position(s) and then rolling. By asking, I could get to know what to do in particular scenarios (you know, the counter to X is Y) but that is so granular it barely has an impact on developing a proper instinct, and merely contributes to what I would consider a real jiujitsu understanding. Without fundamentals, jiujitsu feels like a puzzle with endless pieces, and you are alone trying to figure out how they fit with each other. With this video, I feel like I have finally seen a big portion of the whole picture.
I always struggled to know when to do what, and what the goal of it was, and that causes a lot of frustration and the feeling of being lost, getting always stuck in the same positions, etc. Man, I recall practising X guard and several techniques from there for 2 weeks at the nogi class, super intensive, and after that, rolling with someone and having the X guard passed in like 5 seconds. It was demolishing, and the worst part was not being able to figure out why. Or a new guy that came to the gym and d'arced me like 6 times in 4 minutes from positions I thought I was 100% safe đ€·ââ
Thanks a lot for this amazing content and if you make an instructional with similar content that can be applied from minute 0, I will definitely buy it.
Exactly, I too have classes where we see some movements, then roll. So frustrating because I wanted to practice proper positioning and basic techniques with different levels of resistance, but we go into rolling right away and it's really hard to learn something while trying to survive lol
I LOVE learning theory like this over just straight techniques! It allows us to be more creative when applying the theory and adapting it for our own personal game/style/body type. I think we all somewhat probably understand some of these principles instinctively after rolling, but laying it out in concrete ideas and sections fills so many gaps!
This is probably the most helpful video I've ever seen on CZcams. Thank you coach
Thank you!
I just started jiu jitsu and I watched a lot of your videos after my second time training. I went in for my third time and I was able to apply a lot of the principles that you taught. Framing, keeping your elbows in, and getting your feet on your opponent were especially helpful. It was the most fun Iâve had so far, and it was the best Iâve done. I left feeling encouraged that I could get pretty good at this. Thank you for all the time and energy youâre putting into these videos. They definitely help. One thing you do very well is explain the little things that a lot of other coaches overlook as common knowledge. You help explain the basics and why you do those things. Iâll continue watching you videos and I look forward to Iâll the things Iâll learn. Thanks again.
Awesome job, Tyler! Well done, man đ I'm happy that my videos have been of help. But never forget that it's YOU who is training, enjoying it, and overcoming obstacles and becoming better. So congratulate yourself even more so đ
I'm 51 and regularly roll with guys half my age and 150% my body weight. Using your grips video and techniques presented here the most common comment I get is "holy cow you're strong". Strength helps but they're misdiagnosing their problems while rolling with me; I don't have the energy to be strong, I use angles, leverage, and win grip fights. The stuff you're teaching is applicable at all ages, weights, and belt levels, I LOVE it!
âAngles beat framesâ please!
This was very well explained.
This actually helps understand something so fundemental but yet it seems that no one explains this at all.
Definatly something to take in mind.
Great work!
Thank you! This is what should be taught in fundamentals classes. Not random techniques imo.
So often in many things when weâre learning, we are told to do things but not told why. This video really explains why particular frames, t-rex arms and grips are important and I feel this will improve my jiu-jitsu so much
Yes!!
This has to be the most helpful video I've seen on the WHY of jiu jitsu technique. I'm only on Week 3 of training but have been overwhelmed with all the techniques Ive been taught. But the way you've explained inside position makes so much sense. I am going to practice these moves all next week. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. And I would absolutely buy a book on jiu jitsu theory.
Been LOVING these theory videos - I've been learning for a month and these are so much better for me to understand why something works instead of just trying to memorize a bunch of escapes
Thanks man! Ya, concepts are both fun, easier to remember than remembering a million techniques is, and carry over so well across the field đ
@10:46 "Frames beat inside position, but angles beat frames". This is the kind of stuff I love to know about, can't wait to find out more about that!
Definitely will do that soon
I love your fast pace communication style in these videos, it makes it easy to get the point being made fast and easy
would definitely love to see more content like this, we are all taught the moves but clear breakdown of the principles is game changing. Its the difference between repeating a move and understanding it. Thanks for this!
Great video! Thanks to you and a few other bjj channels I decided to take the leap and sign up to a gym and Iâve been loving it! Just got my first stripe a few weeks ago! Please donât ever stop making these amazing videos!
Amazing content as always Jordan! I just want to say a big thank you because as a fresh white belt who's only been training a few months, I get very overwhelmed with the amount of BJJ information and techniques there are out there. These types of videos really show me and help me practice fundamentals that will help my BJJ game and show me what kinds of things to focus on as a new player in BJJ for improvement. Thanks so much Jordan, there's a reason why you're definitely one of my favorite BJJ content creators on the platform, and I would definitely look into buying instructionals that you put out. đŻđđŒđ
That was AMAZING Jordan!!đ€©đ€© so well put together and put into a very understandable structure!
Iâve noticed youâve said this before in multiple videos and itâs making the biggest difference! Thank you for tips Jordan! Love the podcast and videos! OSS
Great video! I love the way you use basic principles that can be applied over multiple situations.
I can say this is the best concepts video i have ever seen , not understanding what you show there is actually not understanding how to fight for bjj .keep up the good work!!!
Thank you đ
Thanks for posting! Great details!
This is brilliant thank you definitely would buy full length video can't wait
Solid information!!! Very grateful to be a subscriber and follower
Amazing content! Been following you for awhile and youâre in depth detail is top notch!
Thank You! This is an awesome video and Im adding to my playlists for future viewing.
This is one of those videos where I will watch continuously and learn something new each time. Thanks Jordan, this is goldđ
Great video Jordan as usual! Love your content!
I had to stop the video to watch the Hello Fresh ad again - you guys are an absolutely beautiful family and it just made me smile like an absolute dork. You are truly wonderful people, and this channel is something I've really been missing in my training - the conceptual underpinnings and the WHY of Jiujitsu. The explanations are great, the production value is amazing. Thank you for everything you are doing! When I get destroyed on the mats, I'm quickly making a habit of coming here for some good improvement advice
Your content is incredibly helpful! Thank you!
Great video! I'll be watching it on repeat for a while!!
Awesome! Excellent summary. Love jiu jitsu theory.
I've been waiting for this!! Especially since I remember a month ago you talked about making a video about this
I really like those videos! Thank you for sharing!
Every video you make gets better and better. I love the references and of course the content.
Jordan is literally producing CZcams content at its finest. Yes, I would buy! BJJ Theory is basically the reason I tune into this channel. I would love to see more.
This is one of your best videos yet. Iâve saved it and shared it with my gym. Thank you đ
Great stuff! Keep up the good work.
After watching this video, I realized how the lack of solid foundations has impeded my jiu jitsu skills. The classes Iâve taken so far, from several dojos, just focus on teaching techniques without integrating them into broader strategic concepts. As a result, I find myself overwhelmed by options, struggling to master the principles that are crucial for informed decision-making in a fight. Thanks so much for your contents!
Beautifully explained!
Love the theoretical aspects and general principles, it helps heaps, thanks!
Thanks Dimitri! I'm happy the principles are of help đ
Bro amazingly informative vid as always. Thank you!
I'm fairly new to nogi but watched this video before my session today and saw immediate results - much more experienced guys were unable to submit me where I'd been humbled many many times before and instead of scrambling I just fought for the inside lines only which set up a couple of successful submissions on people more experienced than me whilst remaining very defensive. Top instructional video - particularly for those like me new to BJJ who are still trying to grasp a conceptual understanding of the sport. Cheers!
Thanks for the content Jordan.
This is one of your best videos. Thank you. Keep these coming.
Awesome video as always Jordan!đ„ love the seat belt analogy
Your videos keep getting better and better. Thank you Jordan. đ
This was a very very informative video. I literally was having a conversation about this with one of the black belts in my gym the night before you posted this vid. I hadnât seen him a month but we rolled and I had brought up the subject of position and control as something Iâve been exploring a lot recently and he literally went into âinside positionâ but it was mostly about how if you control the opponents head you control their movement. This vid explained in great depth
Might be your best video yet. Love these concepts. Going to try and focus on just not getting submitted the next month. Thanks so much.
Great lesson. Thank you
WOW... This will absolutely allow my brain to stop thinking about what to do next.
Berries and concepts of jiu jitsu allows your brain to make shortcuts so once you get into that position you can become more effective faster. I learn by theories, principles and concepts and this one will definitely make my game faster.
I'm down for an instructional đđŸđ„. Thank you.
Wow. A lot of info to take in here. Thanks for this. Great information.
Such a valuable video! Your videos are definitely helping me to level up! Thank you đđŸ
Wow, that was amazingly in depth and helpful in explaining something that takes years of mat time to learn. đ Hespekt!
Beautifully explained coach!!
Thanks, Eric! I appreciate it :)
Great video Jordan! Really informative
Outstanding stuff as usual, thanks for this.
Excellent positions breakdowns. Thank you!
Thank you for the kind words, Oliver! Happy you enjoy it.
Awesome video Jordanđ
These are the best videos by far!!
Great breakdown and application
Jordan thanks again for the awesome content! I will for sure be watching this one many times. Also I liked the cut to Ricky Bobby nice touch.
Awesome video thanks so much!!!
This was a nice logical breakdown and I enjoyed the case reviews. Thanks, Jordan.
Thanks, Michael. I am glad you've enjoyed them đ
You are going to be the greatest BJJ teaching source channel in yourtube! I want to see you hit millions of subscribers. You are just an amazing teacher, thanks Jordan for the great content, explanations and awesome editing.
Another great video! Thanks.
I'm showing my coaches this video tomorrow. It helped me on the mats a lot today.
Love these conceptual videos!
Great video. I think the idea of teaching through conceptual theory is really powerful, versus having a cache of moves to dip into situation by situation. Love your communication style and would definitely purchase a long form BJJ theory instructional đđ€
Hands down best channel for grappling and jiujitsu
I would absolutely buy an instructional from you. You simplify all the theories that make everything easier to learn and apply.
Very helpful information! Thanks for putting this together.
Definitely
Thank you, Matt!
Jordan mate I absolutely love these informational videos. Rolls are amazing too (your content is amazing), but more of these kind of videos would be very nice to see, I would definitely watch them. Frames beat inside position, but angles beat frames sounds like a video I would watch at least like 10 times. Looking forward to more content. âïž
I just started out in jju and already learned so much from this one video. Please more content like this. Subscribed.
Awesome, greatly done Will! Thank you for the kind words.
Awesome video! đđŒ
Outstanding video... even the Hello Fresh ad in it was perfect! đđđđđ
Jordan⊠your channel is awesome and your content/instructional guidance is top shelf. Love the work you put in. Please keep it going. Itâs left and indelible mark on my training in bjj. Thank you from a fan from Vancouver đ
Thanks man, I appreciate it! Happy to help :) I wont stop!
This feels like such an important fundamental that I was not aware of at all. Still wrapping my head around it fully, but this is so valuable, feel like I need a full instructional for it haha. Thank you!
Thanks man! I have one đ jiujitsutheorycourse.com
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu Oh perfect, I'll check it out!
quick question - in bottom side control do you prioritise someone not getting underhook or not getting head control on you? in some of those videos it looked like the dude was trying to block you controlling the head, but in doing so his arm was up and it allowed you to get an underhook instead. Seems hard to block both at once, but I guess that comes with practice
@@Sean-xr1xj avoiding the underhook is most important when in bottom side control. It's really the the grip that makes it most hard to escape.
@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu Thank you!
Wow really amazing video! We need more videos with more simple principles like this!
This channel is pure gold.
Amazing video! The quality even of the sponsor was so great!
Thank you!
Officially my favorite channel for jiujitsu. You teach how I want to learn. And yes, I would buy the theory course. I'm the type of person that needs to know why before I do. It helps being able to apply the theory to multiple concepts/situations after you learn it.
âFrames beat inside position, but angles beat frames.â Great line and content!
This is great! Keen for a heap of BJJ theory videos from you man. This stuff is the best way to teach and learn BJJ bro. Thank you âșïž
I reallyyyyyy needed this video thanks Jordan
You're welcome! đ
Jordan, love all your videos man. But god damn, this is such an exceptionally good one. The way you present an overarching theme and just hammer away at examples and applications of it make this feel more like an essay or philosophy than just teaching techniques. Being able to take broad, overarching themes found in a sport that everyone picks up on but cant explain, and put them to words is a really great talent. Good work man
thank you very very much sir!!greetings from Greece
