Well you know there have been interviews is “rehabilated” pedophiles who have been In jail for a year or so and they all say ‘I’m so ready to get out of here, I have no sexual urges in children. I think I have been rehabilitated and I am ready to rejoin society’ and then there’s interviews where they have gone to predators that are facing life charges who express to the same interviewers ‘I deserve to be in here. Don’t let me out, because I will never shake this urge.’ When they’re given the chance to to get out of jail so quickly and be able to go back out into society, they know they just have to count down the days. It’s the same as an addict. When I was on probation I’d get sober and just count down the days till I can use again. Once they’re in there for a god good loooong sentence, they then get to see and they get a better chance at rehabilitation.

The way Chris Hansen repeats things back to the suspect is such an effective power play. Often when people do that it's to buy time to think of a response, but the way Hansen does it gives the impression that he's listening VERY closely to what they're saying. Plus it's hilarious to watch their face when they realize how dumb something they just said was as it's repeated back to them. It knocks them even more off balance most of the time.
