- Another take of this favorite, and the last piece for baroque lute I play, as I sell it (in fact it is already sold, don't ask for it...)
From the Oxford Ms F.576, arranged by Anthony Bailes.
I record it when I first have this lute, but without the zoom H2, and with some editing... so I try to do it better (some hesitations but... it is really not an easy instrument to play...)
Now I will focus on renaissance music, and romantic guitar sometimes for fun...

I am sorry to hear that you won't play the Baroque lute any longer. The basses are such a delight to hear in all the pieces. Fine version indeed although I was already impressed by the previous performance. I will change the versions at the Folia page tonight. Thanks for the notice.

En fait on conseille souvent de débuter par le luth renaissance, mais il est aussi possible de débuter directement le luth baroque (si vous êtes plus intéressé par la musique de cette période). Le luth baroque est assez "exclusif" du fait de sa taille, du nombre de choeurs et des particularités stylistiques de sa musique. Je l'ai pour ma part mis de côté, pour des jours meilleurs, à la retraite peut-être le reprendrai-je...

Nous avons des versions de cet air pour luth Renaissance. Cela dit, bien sûr, avec ses super basses, ce luth baroque est bien beau !

Merci Valéry! I can understand why you sold it even if it is such a nice instrument. I never understood how you could play so different instruments so well in the first place. I will miss to hear this lute played by you but looking forward to hear more of the guitar and the renaissance lute.

Il y a de nombreuses versions, dès la renaissance jusqu'à nos jours, et c'est toujours la même émotion... ;-)
(j'ai du en enregistrer cinq, sous divers titres : folias, la gamba, Cara cossa, Gaillarde J'aimeraye mieux dormir... et celle ci qui est plus typique de la forme prise à l'époque baroque)

@Luthval Oui vous avez tout à fait raison, mais je ne fais que cité la plus connue. Celle de l'époque de Louis 14. Que Dieu bénisse son âme ainsi que la notre.

Les folies d'Espagne est une musique baroque écrite par Jean-Baptiste Lully lors de sa folie car il avait déçu le roi Louis XIV ( il y a en effet eu une période où il a un peu perdue la boussole)

Yhat is not the strech of the thum that is hard, it is to gro from an instrument to another. I think baroque lute is easyer (because of the tuning...) but it is an exclusive instrument, to play it well you need to play it on only this one... That I can't do because my taste is more for renaissance music ;-)

What was difficult is to go from one to another. You need some adaptation time to be ok to play it, and I'm an instrument traveler (I mean form one to another) so it was difficult to be good on all. I have to be honest and restrain myself. And my taste is more for renaissance music than for baroque one... Baroque lute for example is an exclusive instrument, to master it you have to play it on only this one...

Le coté obscur de la force du luth baroque ? Peut-être à cause du départ proche de l'instrument, la neige dehors, la dernière pièce baroque ?... ;-)

Opteryx Industries Yes it is a very famous baroque tune, and you can hear another version (by Marin Marais) played on viola da gamba in "Tous les matins du Monde" movie.

Et les versions antérieures, du XVIème siècle par exemple, bien avant la naissance de Lully ???
Celle de Diego Ortiz (1555, Recercada quarta et ottava sobre la folia), la Gamba (Guillaume Morlaye) La Cara Cossa (Marco Dal Aquila) sue le même thème... (parmi beaucoup d'autres.
