    They left out some things. Mary didn’t want to be killed. She knew that Jane was a pawn and initially had imprisoned. Lady Jane Grey's father started a rebellion in her name which sealed her fate.

      If I'm not mistaken wasn't Jane Grey executed until about a year after Mary took her throne back (whereas others who installed her were executed pretty quickly)? And even then if I recall correctly it was a change in circumstances in which Mary felt she had to execute Jane for the stability of her kingdom and her crown- not petty revenge because she wanted to. For a woman maligned and portrayed as "the most evil woman in all of ever!!", Mary I was actually for the most part a pretty reasonable ruler and empathetic. Before anyone jumps on me and cites her campaign of religious persecution- her father executed 57,000 people at least, her grandfather offed people for personal gain, her brother had 5000 Catholics and many Protestant heretics burnt, and her sister burnt 200 Catholic priests herself. Yet we never talk of "Bloody Henry", or "Bloody Edward", we only ever hear of "Bloody Mary"

    In actual fact you were the rightful heir to the throne legally. As Edward was the king, his will took precedence over the will of the former king. You could have lived had you renounced your faith and accepted the Catholic faith; however, your conscience prevented you from doing so. You had a brief and tragic life. The problems caused by religion at that time was simply not worth it.

    • @donna1500
      @donna1500 Před 10 měsíci +9

      No, she was not the rightful heir to the throne. That was Mary. Although Edward was king, he was still a minor and therefore unable to change the line of succession. She would have been the rightful heir if Edward had lived into adulthood.

    Idk. It’s sad that she was killed but I don’t see why she’s always presented as this quiet wallflower. She was fiercely Protestant & outspoken in the way teenagers are, from Vietnam protests to gen x climate change activists. Teens have an extra measure of hope that depletes with disappointment & most become disillusioned adults.
    She was well educated & passionate. She, had she not been queen, to me, seems more likely to have become a loud, active Protestant missionary than a quiet, noble wife.
    She didn’t want the crown but acted quickly to put her power into use. She might have been a good queen.
    Despite the religious differences, she did acknowledge Mary as rightful ruler. Despite he refusal to back down on religion, Mary chose not to execute her. But then her father, driven by greed for money and power, and then to save his own skin, threw his daughter under the proverbial bus & forced her execution.
