    They actually gave Zyuoh King proper justice with its minipla version, maintaining the animal forms and cube gimmick while allowing zords like Lion to just completely split down the middle for actual legs. The sword becomes short and only enough to go through Eagle, but it shows that engineering the toy to be screen accurate enough was possible while keeping the main gimmick.

      The super mini pla line are awesome. I've never built one, but I've seen a bunch of videos on them. They're often sticker heavy, but they do function and combine just like they do on screen. It's a shame they're soo expensive. I'd love to have a few myself. Maybe make a complete custom robot lol

    Honestly, one robo that exemplifies your thesis isn't exactly one, but the entire team's: Dekaranger. Using PR terms because I haven't watched the Japanese footage.
    I love how the base Megazord feels right for the Rangers, but also like a training Megazord-you get the sense that it gets the job done, but the Rangers are learning their craft through it.
    Then, their command center becoming a Megazord definitely feels like they are getting backup from higher ups, and there's a sense of authority when The Shadow Ranger pilots set.
    Then, when the Omega Ranger's introduced It feels like he feels like an advanced student training alongside the cadets with a zord that compliments theirs. I'm not including the SWAT Megazord, but I do appreciate how it feels like the scope of their mission has increased, like they're protecting the Galaxy and not just a planet.
    Overall, this set of Megazords feels like a family and compliment each other super well. It doesn't feel out of place or random like some extra robos tend to be.

    I think the perfect robo/megazord in recent years is still Don Onitaijin for the perfect combination between articulation and combination (both in toys and in the show itself). It's not restrictive, but still have a balance gattai between each member. I don't really like the Kingohger Robo, it's too focused on movability but the gattai don't feel satisfying and the balance between member is soo off.
    Speaking of Megazord, i hate Hasbro for not releasing the only 3 Zord left for Dino Fury.

      @KingZoru_VT  Před 7 měsíci +4

      I would have to agree on both of those points! I praise KingOhger for its style but I agree the balance is a bit off.

    Ah, Sentai Mecha. Since 1979, Super Sentai has perfected live-action super robots, and you can tell how much has change. Battle Fever Robo was more of a test with it having no gimmicks other than "it's a cool robot". The Sentai Robos of the 80s were blocky and it wasn't until Maskman that we had the number of zords matching the number of Sentai members. The mecha of the 90s was the beginning of smoothing out the mecha designs to make them slimmer, but I will consider the peak of Sentai Robo to... all Gaoranger Robos. Those are peak in both design and playability since the Power Animals are more natural-looking animal mecha, which resulted in unique-looking mecha combos. Plus Gaoranger has the auxiliary mecha gimmick where you can mix and match the Power Animals for some unique combinations, to which the show takes advantage of. Gaoranger should be the staple on how to do auxiliary mecha done right.

    I do, find this video reslly interesting to watch, and fascinating too, especially when im tying to make an oc sentai mecha/zord, so this i found genuinely helpful.
    Also i have heard (i think from an interview) , reasoning of why recent sentai mecha figures have possibility, was cause the person whos in charge of toy designs was an father, and something about how he saw his kid tried to replicate poses with zenkaiger mechas but couldnt, and he thought adding articulation would bring them closer to the show
    I think favourite sentai mechas idk what it is but go buster beets and lion had been ones that always caught my interest with them

    I myself favor the all together combinations, seeing every single team member and mecha get a dedicated spot just is so satisfying, my personal favorites being tenrai senpujin, samurai ha oh, god kingogher, kiwami toradora onitaijin, and engine oh g12, they are just so visually appealing even though they are just a bunch of pieces being attached in somewhat crazy ways

  • @vinzseika9826
    @vinzseika9826 Před 7 měsíci +6

    Nice video. I think there's only a few video on CZcams that talked about Sentai Robo. There's a lot of good Sentai Robo but the one thing that i don't like about them is the clusterfuck combination, you know, like Engine-Oh G12 and Samurai Haoh. But with how Sentai dynamic works with team bonds and teamwork, a clusterfuck combination is inevitable. I think the last time we don't have that kind of thing is Kiramager *i count Zenryoku Zenkaioh as somewhat forced combination". And speaking about Zenryoku Zenkaioh, CGI being used for them is a unique thing. I think the first fully CGI mech is Good Cool Kaiser VSX. As long as the usage of CGI is good, there's no problem for having CGI mech. Well, for now, some of the CGI mech is good while other is kinda meh. Some of my favorite CGI mech is Good Cool Kaiser VSX, Don Zenkaioh and Tarantula Knight because you can see how smooth their CGI. CGI mech can also be a way for having a clusterfuck combination that have a lot of mobility, rather than using a practical suit and have the clusterfuck mech that can only move awkwardly

      @KingZoru_VT  Před 7 měsíci +2

    My fav (the tv version only since I don't buy sentai toys):
    - Magi King - Magi dragon / Magi Legend: the way magi legend make a gimmick of magi king into its main combination mechanic is just chef kiss (the way magi dragon foreshadow 4 rangers combine into Magi Lion). Also, much prefer the final mech being it own thing rather than slapping every mechs into one giant, clunky robo.
    - Kyshiryu oh three knights / Don Oni Taijin: sleek af. only rank lower than magi king since the mech got worse later down the line.
    - Gao Icarus: wasn't a big fan of a robo having no hands, but my god gao falcon and the finisher is dope. I mean, it's weird to include finisher when evaluating a robo, but we literally see it every week so... why not?
    - Muteki Shogun: really fancy the way they turn a castle into a mech, the origami crane helmet is awesome, and they actually lit a sword on fire to shoot the finisher.

    One of my favorite sentai mechs is GoGoV's Victory Robo
    Victory Robo has a lot of "weight" to put it, that first episode gattai sequence had a lot of drama and tension, since every individual 99 Emergency Machine has its own role that it must perform to reduce the Catastrofiend's onslaught; Red Ladder gets the rangers to high places much like a fire engine's ladder, Pink Aider gets everyone away from the fight zone, Blue Thrower puts out the fires, Yellow Armor punches through debris, etc. Then it combines, and its slower gattai sequence gives it strong "disaster movie" vibes to ramp up the tension while the episode's catastofiend keeps wrecking havock, I still hold up that out of all mechs so far in the franchise, Victory Robo really conveys the feel of "man-made giant robot" better than most.

    my only pet peeve is when they made a final combination with all the mechas in the series and it ended up being clustered mess that is unplayable in toy form and heavy and barely can move in the show.
    also while i agree kingohger is a better design then kirameiger, there's still the fact papillonohger's cockpit is located in the sword. so they still gonna get separated and cant contribute to the team when the sword is dropped.

    Awesome video and interesting take.
    Personally, I prefer the Giant Robots/Megazords that maximize the play value as much as possible. I like mid-form combinations; be it something silly like Daizyujin's Dino Tanker Mode (Dino Megazord Tank Mode), or something way more consistent like Magi Dragon (Mystic Dragon). Even something as simple as Heavenly Qi Palace (Thunderzord Assault Team) is still a pretty cool gimmick. I liked how the KishiRyuOh (Dino Fury Megazord) had a Lego-inspired gimmick that allowed for multiple, unofficial combinations. And I absolutely love it when individual Robots/Zords have their own independent transformations; such as RyuseiOh's Warrior Mode (Red Dragon Thunderzord Warrior Mode), or Pteraiden-Oh (Ptera Charge Megazord). They can combine with some or all of the main/core robots, but they can stand on their own as a super robot, which is better than having one Robot/Zord that relies only on the combining aspect. And while things like the Zyuoh Cubes or the Shinken Origami Emblems (Samurai Folding Zord's Emblem Form) might not have as many play patterns on their own, they can still act as a cute charm or something to carry around (if you are bold enough).
    As a kid, any Megazord that maximized it's potential play patterns or any toy that encouraged a kid to get creative was always a top-tier toy IMO.
