  • In this video Doctor O'Donovan explains possible warning signs and symptoms of Hodgkin's lymphoma - a cancer that starts in white blood cells called lymphocytes. it is also called a cancer of the lymphatic system. We also will cover causes, investigations and what happens when you go to see your doctor.
WHAT ARE POTENTIAL SYMPTOMS OF HODGKIN LYMPHOMA?
According to NHS UK "The most common symptom of Hodgkin lymphoma is a swelling in the neck, armpit or groin. The swelling is usually painless, although some people find that it aches.
The swelling is caused by an excess of affected lymphocytes (white blood cells) collecting in a lymph node (also called lymph glands). Lymph nodes are pea-sized lumps of tissue found throughout the body. They contain white blood cells that help to fight infection."
REMEMBER - JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE SWOLLEN LYMPH NODES DOES NOT MEAN YOU NECESSARILY HAVE HODGKIN LYMPHOMA. Lymph nodes are commonly swollen after an infection, but if they persist, get bigger, or don't go down after a few weeks you should see your doctor.
Some more general symptoms can include:
    - night sweats
    - unintentional weight loss
    - a high temperature (fever)
    - a persistent cough or feeling of breathlessness
    - persistent itching of the skin all over the body
A few people with lymphoma have abnormal cells in their bone marrow when they're diagnosed. This may lead to:
    - persistent tiredness or fatigue
    - an increased risk of infections
    - excessive bleeding - such as nosebleeds, heavy periods and spots of blood under the skin
    - Sometimes, people with Hodgkin lymphoma have pain in their lymph glands when they drink alcohol.
SEE YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU HAVE ANY OF THE ABOVE SYMPTOMS
    IMPORTANT:
Many of these symptoms are very common and can be caused by different conditions. Having them does not definitely mean you have HODGKIN LYMPHOMA. But it's important to get them checked by a DOCTOR. This is because if they're caused by cancer, finding it early may mean it's easier to treat.

Tips on getting the most out of your doctors appointment:
    - Write down your symptoms including when they started, when they happen and how often you have them.
    - Write down anything that makes them worse or better.
    - Tell your doctor if you are worried about cancer.
    - Tell them if you have any family history of cancer.
    - Take a friend or relative along for support - they could also ask questions and take notes to help you remember what the doctor says.
    - Ask the doctor to explain anything you don’t understand.
    - Ask the doctor to write things down for you if you think it might help.

I had non- Hodgkins lymphoma in 2009 (stage 3--8 chemos) & I didn't even know it! No symptoms or anything! I went to my Dr for my annual physical & that's when he said my white blood cell count was high & sent me to an oncologist. Thank God he did as I've been cancer free since then. (I'm 76 now)😊

Informative video! Knowing the symptoms of Lymphoma is essential for diagnosis and early treatment. Painless lumps near the lymph nodes, extreme fatigue, high fever, itching and significant weight loss without a known cause are all signs to watch for. Hodgkin Disease is very treatable today. Stay strong anyone who's suffering from it! Many thanks for sharing this very helpful video Doctor O'Donovan!❤👍

I am currently undergoing chemotherapy for Hodgkin’s lymphoma. I did not have any of the symptoms but on the first day I noticed there was a swelling in my lymph node in the neck, my doctor did not wait and I went through different test and then biopsy and the pet scan and other advanced test and was diagnosed with cancer.

Lymphoma's are types of disease that is known to take life, when not detected early, there should always be precautionary measure in all ingestion as well as intake of food, medicines, as well as liquid/beverage. Historical ailments of a patient also accounts to the prognosis/DX.

I had a lymphoma lump in my neck that was discovered through a biopsy last October. After that, I underwent a PET CT scan and was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin's lymphoma, nodular sclerosis variant. I underwent four cycles of ABVD chemotherapy as prescribed by my doctor. However, after the fourth cycle, my tumor unfortunately spread to my head, prompting my doctor to discontinue the chemotherapy treatment.Currently, I am undergoing Ayurvedic treatment for my cancer, as the tumor had become extremely painful during my chemotherapy sessions.

ive been having symptoms for a year and a half that started with crazy unexplainable itching for a few months, random night sweats at least one or two a week, a rash that lasted a few months until Dr gave me prednisone, a cough for no reason, random fevers a few times a week and some nausea and stomach pain at times and very bad asthma. The bloods came back normal so said no further resting needed. Since then about 2 months ago I found very large lymph node about an inch or more on underarm that has zero pain and is rock hard and as of last week a new one near it also rock hard. I am waiting to go to the Dr in Australia when i go back there in 3 months as its my original home and get free medical as I feel I wont be able to afford it here in US. I feel I have lymphoma

Hi my 36 year old partner has this and the doctors have not helped. They say you just live with it like having diabetes. We're beyond frustrated and don't know what to do. She has shortness of breath and is stage 3 but haven't tested marrow. Most likely she's 4

You had a swelling on your neck for seven years?
If this is true im feeling comfortable because now i had it like for 2 years on the left side of my neck and the doctor said it was normal specially after i told him about the big period i had it on me but after like 1 month of doing a surgery of appendix I started having small difficulty to move my neck without having a difficulty in swallowing and feel small pain from time to another above the bone that is between the neck and the chest
I'm not planning to go tobany speciallist or a doctor so i really hope everything goes ok and i will just live my life and try to forget about it@@BTSARMY-fo7ox

This was a very informative video doc. I’m currently 12 years old and very worried if I have lymphoma or not… I’ve had a swollen painless lymph node on the right side of my neck that has been there for almost 5-6 months and it was basically my only symptom. Went to get my blood tested and they said I had EBV, I’m just so scared that my infection can turn into cancer.
