Uncle Wiley being iconic in Black Friday

- ARE YOU READY FOR ME RANTING ABOUT GOOD VILLAINS IN FICTION-
I loved Uncle Wiley in Black Friday. I love villains, and terrifying insane(?) villains are always my favourite. Wiley is honest to god terrifying in some scenes. Perfect example; when he confronted Linda. The audience is completely silent in this scene, because his presence just FILLS the room. The way he talks to Linda is subtley threatening (see “ungrateful little BRATS”), and the way he plays to her base desired and then immediately brainwashes her, basically (common Eldritch trope; looking at the god makes you go insane and/or worship the god) establishes him firmly in “oh shit don’t fuck with this guy” territory.
Made in America is 1) SUCH A GOOD SONG I MEAN THE VOCALS COME ON, and 2) bloody terrifying. He commands the Sniggles to attack Howie, him riffing and mocking America the whole time and barely holding back contemptment, the entire monolgue beforehand where he mocks the President and cuts deep with America’s issues.
Third and final point; he’s brainwashed and insane. It’s basically confirmed that he’s Wilbur Cross at this point (in the Black Friday commentary multiple cast members and Nick call him ‘Wilbur’), and there are a couple moments where the tragedy kinda shines through. First, when he talks to Linda about Wiggly. “You just gotta open your heart up to his love” particularly. The way he says it tells tou he believes it sincerely, and it 100% has ‘indoctrinated cult member’ vibes. Second, the conducting in ‘Made in America’. That just screams ‘insane’. Third, in the second verse (third? Does the ‘Wiggly’s shop’ bit count as a verse or a part of the bridge w/the Wiggly choir?”), when he sings “he’s all you need to fill your heart”. The choreography and the way he moves and his expressions feel so uncanny and creepy and gives you the “indoctrinated” vibes.
Basically; Uncle Wiley is iconic
im so upset that no one seems to be talking about how absolutely genius it was to make Wilbur Cross the villain and yet never explicitly name him while playing the role
If I had a penny for every time Joey Ritcher played an undead traitor to a chaotic good gay secret agent who aided a genocidal force and monologued about silicon to Curt Mega while stood on a staircase, I'd have two pennies, which isn't a lot, but it's still weird that it happened twice
I KNOW istg he's obsessed with bloody silicon (he said it during not so bad aswell, as hans, and then had to stab himself)
wait what’s the other one
@@melvinat0r in black friday and spies are forever xx
Joey plays a god-tier antagonist. Jesus FUCKING Christ this man can act.
“I don’t know if you wanna wanna wanna wanna wanna FUCK with me” is my favorite line
I’m so attracted to three-tier denim Wiley that I’m slightly concerned for my sanity...
My only dissapointment in this character is that there was not more of him
Same I hope he's a villain in more Hatchetfield musicals he's just too good
Joey is the only one who can rival Jeff Blim's psychotic stare
joey richter playing this character... this DEEP voice he uses, and these villain monologues, great acting... I-i-iii... he is being really attractive, oh my god.
you are so right
I KNOW BUT LIKE ALSO HE'D PROBABLY KILL ME. BUT AHHHHH
Beware joey Richter and his Joutfit
JOUTFIT lmao
this is probably really obvious, but considering wilbur wears a watch and he used to be john's mentor before entering the black and white, he probably learned about the importance of time from him
also his speech about america and products is just super cool, the slight echo and his unhinged manner of speaking just gives me goosebumps everytime
The scenes with Linda hit different now that we know Joey and Lauren are engaged
They’re WHAT?!!!
@@TheRenCoco yup.
The scene that hits different for me is when Joey (playing Homeless Guy) kisses her foot in Adore Me
I love that they’re engaged and it will be a crime if they’re not in the next musical
i'm enthralled by how much denim wiley wears
i genuinely thought about cosplaying him just so i could wear that much denim at once
I feel like the outfit was probably inspired by Randall Flagg in The Stand. Just google a picture of him, and you'll see what I mean. The likely homage is probably due to the fact that a lot of Stephen King's works take place in a huge, interconnected multiverse, and the character is referenced in a lot of them, most notably The Dark Tower series and, as previously mentioned, The Stand.
@@zebrafish7267 i never knew that and that's awesome! I can totally see it
@@zebrafish7267 hell yea! Randall Flagg, probably one of King’s best antagonists imo.
my little brother was watching kid danger the other day and let me tell you, seeing mr. unhinged denim-lover, uwu-god worshipper, “hello naughty list” on a kid’s show was a dissociative experience
I JUST LOOKED IT UP: HES TIME JERKER??? BRUH
He was also officer Petey on Jessie
Black Friday is one of the BEST performances Joey ever did, and that's saying something since he's always fantastic.
I'm so glad he took over Pete Spankoffski's role in NPMD, he's just incredible!
When Linda said "I want what everybody wants.." my mind went to "I want Hermione Granger and a rocketship" lol
Wiley flips off Curt 12/13 times since u asked 🥰🤚
New theory that nobody is talking about but I might be wrong: the 'bomb' is actually wiggly taking root in Hatchetfield.
2:09 love the subtle ‘Made in America’ riff in the background
I just want to say: JOEY FUCKING RICHTER
Aaaaaa I appreciate this so much yes!!! AND I DIDN'T PUT TOGETHER THE FACT THAT UNCLE WILEY WAS WILBUR CROSS SMH SMH
No joke ive been using this help me train my voice to do my own version of him.
I watch this at least once every other day. I have been for nearly a month.
That pepper spray bit has invaded my mind.
Your comments during Made in America were very similar to what normally goes through my mind watching/listening to the song. I know I keep seeing this in other comments on other videos but I never believed it until now: maybe Starkid fans really are a hive mind.
I adore the ambient acoustic Made in America during Linda and Wiley’s conversation
Thanks for that vidéo ^^
And btw, yes Wilbur cross and wiley are the same dude, that's confirm on the starkid wiki ;)
Was it comfirmed by Nick though? Cause the wiki can say anything about that rlly considering the whole 'anyone can edit' thing.
Omg I sound like my teachers-
*Did you mean: Everytime he's on stage?*
Same ThatGaiaGirl. Also I Did Eight Plays In My Lifetime Between Church And School ( When I Was In School). Five Of Them I Was The Villian. Three Of Them I Was Not.
‘Team Rocket blasting off’ killed me
I love Joey richter characters that return from certain death to get revenge and rant about silicon on a staircase to Curt Mega
and this why I'm glad my name is wilbur :D the excitement I experienced when I found out that was his name is immesurable
Love the essay in the bio A+ no notes
is this what the kids call rizz nowadays
Is Wiley in Nightmare Time?
Yes
2:57 I always thought of him saying it to Linda was in the naughty as in bwlad person way... like he was hitting on Lex but with Linda he was hinting at Linda being a terrible enough person to help Wiggly come to this plane....
