I have a 97 and I'm in the process of going through it right now I can only say they are one of the most unique vehicles in the world they are the most fun vehicles to drive but ironically they're the noisiest bounciest annoying things to drive and I guess that what makes them so fun to drive.
Thats a JeeP
It's a jeep thing
They were made for off-road, you can't always have your cake and eat it too. Comfort and performance rarely go hand in hand
I'm 64 years old and was fortunate to own a 1982 Jeep scrambler for about 10 or 12 years. Then I owned a 1999 wrangler witch was a great jeep. Then I was fortunate enough to own a 2004 unlimited for a number of years, and other than the scrambler, I think the unlimited was one of my favorites. Now I'm retired and just picked up a 1998 tj 4 cyl 5 speed for cruising around town and some light trails here in South East Arizona, I have to say I'm pretty impressed when I take it off road.
Sounds like Jeeps run in your blood. They definitely stand the test of time. And can the abuse!
The most wholesome video on the TJ yet.
I still have my '97 SE with the 2.5L and infamous 3-speed auto.
Love it!
I bought my 97 in 98 with 8,000 miles. Still own it after 218,000 and has been excellent. No rust. It still has the original starter and alternator. The issues I had early on was the exhaust manifold. I installed Borla SS tubes w/million mi warranty and 5sp transmission rebuilt. I recently installed OX lockers up front and Dana truetrac rear and 4:10 gears on 33's 3/4" spacer lift and new coil springs. I don't off road, it was something I wanted.
It's been great.
Thanks for the upload and the reminder of the gem the few of us own and enjoy.
Just came across your channel. Really nice starter kit for your adventures in off-roading. I own a 04 TJ and the latest mod that I installed is the upgrade of the wiring for the battery, alternator and the grounds. Went from a stock wire to a 1/0 welding wire. Made all the cable ends out of copper tubing. By the way, I have a duel battery set up. I run 35's and a 4 1/2" suspension lift, so if you decide to put on 33 insure you have the right gearing in your diff's. Lockers to me are a must have! Good luck, have fun and stay safe.
Welcome to the channel! We are definitely looking into more upgrades for our Vehicles! And your mods sound amazing, some things we may consider In the future. Take care out there!
Im 16 and bought a 2000 Tj Sahara and it’s nice
nice bro how much did it cost you
I purchased my 97 TJ Jeep wrangler sahara new in 97. It took three attempts for the dealership to get the particular version I wanted. Still have it and almost 300k miles. Has been the most unique vehicle, which is fun to drive. Its a truck, its a pickup, its a convertible and a sedan all roll into one. The crazy looks we get in the winter with the top down and the hester going full blast. Lol Added a hitch for pulling a small trailer and we've enjoyed going to Jeep camps in the years past. Have had many offer of peolle wanting to buy ans some offers were crazy high butthry just dont make the Jeeps like they were made in 97 and years of those times. Hope you get many enjoyable yesrs out of your Jeep!
Awesome Jeep. I owned the TJ’s when they were new. Take good care of it and it will always be worth good money...it’s a JEEP!
I have a 05 TJ running 35 and daily drive it does really good
I’ve got the same but in Sport, 4.0 i6 engine. 1997. Did a 2.5” suspension lift. 31” BFG KO2 tires. POSI LSD locker in the back on dana 44. Automatic spartan locker in front dana 30. 9.500 lbs winch. Hard too. It’s a beast. Goes anywhere. Add a LSD to the rear diff, well worth the money. It’s your daily driver, do NOT add automatic front lockers. I did it because it’s not my daily driver.
Oh no,no,no, I'm not getting my Jeep muddy. 😊
But it looks like you are having FUN 😂.
I have a JK and a TJ .....I prefer the TJ. Best car I've ever owned, No doubt about it
That same dealer has no TJs under 15000 dollars at the moment haha. Some of which have giant holes in the frame. I waited too long to decide I'd like to own one of these.
I have this exact same Jeep. Except mine is 100% stock. I bought it used in like 1999 and drove it through HS and college. I get offers from people wanting to buy it all the time. I had to stop parking it where people can see it in my driveway. Lol
I have a 2000 4.0 Liter Straight 6, 5 speed manual, yellow which is a REALLY rare color for that year, Sport model with AC. Unfortunately, live in New York, bought one from upstate that came down to the tri-state area through a friend of my dads who has his own shop and he got that car from a family member. 4800 bucks back in 2017 right before my freshman year of college, finally got my dream car, frame ended up being corroded where we needed to patch it continuously, this year it got to the point where I just had to buy a TOTALLY clean frame online, in the process of doing the swap, painting it up like crazy to avoid rust and corrosion coming back, my passenger side turned out to have a MASSIVE amount of corrosion in the floor, brand new pan there, all sorts of welding work and patching. Back when I got it, I threw LED headlights and taillights on it, Pioneer head unit hooked up to Kicker Speakers and a Bazooka Tube with an external amp. For about 200-300 bucks, you can REALLY bring that stereo system into an incredible range, amazing sound for a reasonable price. And to anyone in the Northeast or other regions of the states where these rust, make sure you know about it in advance and check INTENSELY for it. My dad and I are car guys, price was just insanely below market because of the relationship, and when we really saw the damage later we knew we were gonna be able to stay on top of it, we knew this restoration now was bound to happen.
That's an aweome story man. Shows you really care about this jeep! Thanks for sharing.
@@AdventureGT Abdolutely! Originally I was just going to comment on what I did with my stereo because it’s actually not that bad to upgrade monetarily, even installation wise unless you have to wire up a new head unit harness, but then I figured why not share the whole thing? Everyone who ever rode in it was blown away by the stereo system, even at 23 it never fails to make me smile 😎💯 yours is sick too! I started wanting one around 15-16, my cousin in North Carolina who’s 2 weeks younger than me bought a 98, he did the stereo in his too with a massive sub box so riding around with him in his REALLY made me want the exact same type of Jeep, model manual trans and all
Like from Russia. This is a best car. It is a pity that we have a hard time finding this model in good condition.
Throw some flood penetrol on your hard top. Just wipe it on and it’ll look new
It's cool because it has a manual transmission. It makes it more fun and closer to it's roots
You kidding me?.. if you buy older jeep and it doesn't have wind noise.. don't buy it..I have a 98 wrangler soft top half door.. that thing is loud and noisy..I love it.
What was the name of the dealership where you grabbed this thing? Super clean looking!!
I reached out to Jordan. The dealership is Downing auto sales, 4675. Nw 2nd st Des Moines IA
I'll buy your half doors.
Ordered my 2015 wrangler willys edition with half doors, loved the doors, hated the jk with the pentastar and 6 speed.
Looking at an 03 tj with the straight 6 and 5 speed but full doors. ☹️
From one Iowa boy to an other do you mind sharing what dealer in Des Moines you were dealing with? They sound like a good resource..
Hey sorry about the response time,
I reached out to Jordan. The dealership is Downing auto sales, 4675. Nw 2nd st Des Moines IA
Also best car ive ever owned
Can you recommend the place you bought this from?
Hey man! What dealer in des moines did you buy it from?
Nothing beats like an inlin 6
...try the 2.5L with four squirrels 🤣🤣
Slow as F, but so much fun! 😎👍
@@teop7887 I would take the 6 sorry lol , 2.5 had so much problems , the 6 are solid engine that can last forever
@@midokhalil1558
Haha, so is the little 4 banger!
They're essentially the same motor, minus 2 cylinders
Cheers 😎👍
What sizes tire are on your jeep now.
My 98 is rockin 31x10 1/2 of 15 inch jeep rim alloys. My jeep is a city trekker but want to hit the beach/dunes/desert, dirt roads and simple trails.
Not our jeep haha. Just a friend from the interview segment we will start doing. But his size is 30 x 9.5 x 15 but In the future we would love to do a big group ride along!
You guys need at lest 32s . But 33s is the biggest i go .
I just bought my first 1997 TJ. Unfortunately it’s a automatic with the 4cyl, but no major rust.
FYI, You can do a V8 swap if you want more power ;)
@Ivan VL yeah but I don't have the money to do that...I still enjoy it...my tj is my daily driver and I only paid $3,300.
Do you still own and do you still enjoy?
I'd say go with 35's and you'll never regret it. Whether you go 33" or 35" you should regear it so go 35" & never look back.
So you have Miles Upshur's jeep
Sooo Jake, would yours be the saber tooth and Georges would be...?
Lil Dragon Zord!
Nice jeep. How many miles on it at purchase? TIA.
Jordan is a friend to the channel and will let him know you said so. His jeep is set to appear in more videos to come! His TJ has just over 100k when he bought it.
Would you share the dealers name in Des Moines?
i heard if you get big wheels and get a lift you have to upgrade from D35 differential
Not necessarily. Alot of it depends on the type of wheeling you're going to do, and how aggressive you are on the throttle. You are more likely to break an axel playing in the rocks, because of the torque your axels will be subjected to. As opposed to offroading in the trails and mud, where typically there is more slippage.
I'm running 33's on my 97 2.5 ltr D35, no issues
i have a D35 front with 33x12.5 MT’s with a 4” lift no problem at all. if you wanna get 35’s or bigger you may want to consider re-gearing... depends on how you want it to handle
🤙
The mastodon!!!!!😳
Hell yea!! Lol I actully stole the mastadons yankem rope to pull out another guy in my last video, and now he wants to use it to pull me out in a future video. So this rig will be back on the channel again soon!
What’s your location?
If you do not like noise do not put big tires on your jeep
Shots fired.
😂
