I love his use of certain words and phrases to describe his process. "Visual language" was such a perfect way to describe the visualization of his films. And using the word "opaque" to describe the vagueness of some of his shots is great. This was a fantastic interview Emma. Thanks for always prepping such deep diving questions for these artists that we adore.

Regarding the "different experiences" I can totally confirm that one, haha! I've seen Infinity Pool in Berlin in a small arthouse cinema. While my partner and me really enjoyed it, the couple next to us kept asking each other what the hell was going on. Three people of a group in the front row even left the cinema when some specific scenes took place. I guess they all had different assumptions of what they were going to experience and it was very funny to see how those were torn apart :'D

Woaahh that's cool! Great interview. I was just thinking about Infinity Pool yesterday and how original it is, especially in terms of how the story unfolds. Almost every other scene has a moment where it all explodes and becomes something completely different.

Just saw it (four months later!). Wow. Mia Goth is AMAZING. The 3-act structure thing is definitely apparent, though. You can watch the time and tick off the standard beats at the approximate 30, 60, 90 minute marks. Not a negative. Quite the opposite - it shows how original a film can be made within the standard structure.
A favourite director of all time for me. As a massive horror fan who never connected with David's work, discovering Antiviral was one of the most exciting horror experiences I've ever had. It was as if someone had written and styled a movie for me alone. Infinity Pool rocked my world! What a genius creator, and it is such a pleasure to see this interview. I love seeing Canadian artists succeed, and it's crazy to think this man was growing up so close to me and went on to make some of my favourite films. I'd love to meet him one day, maybe the next film he releases will give me an opportunity to see him speak at a screening or something.

I remember during a press tour for Possessor Brandon mentioned that he had a couple scripts he was in the process of working towards for his next feature. Obviously Infinity Pool was one but another was an 'isolated haunted spacecraft' Scifi-horror in the vein of Alien or Event Horizon, if I recall correctly. I'd love to see that from him next. There are far too many of those Alien rip-off movies and all of varying degrees of quality (Pandorum & Life actually being two standouts) but I think BC's variation of that would be really interesting and a refreshing experience amongst all the other straight-2-video hacks.
Hey, making something for straight to video doesn't make one a hack. Mike Flanagan has done several streaming-only releases, and theaters aren't the be-all, end all of filmmaking anymore (especially with audiences behaving so obnoxiously anymore).

He seems like such a normal guy, despite the weirdness of his subject matter. I hope he has a long, fruitful career like his father.

I didn't connect that much with Possessor, but I loved Infinity Pool. It's such a fucked up film, truly scary in a subtle way. This was really cool! You have good interviewing skills, Emma!
well theres the canadian movie in their skin 2012 and he copied the begining and more things of i know what you did last summer 1997, and theres the movie strange behavior or dead kids from 1981.....brandon is very cleaver,,

It's great to see Brandon Cronenberg directing movies that are almost reminiscent to his dad's work towards body horror.💯
I am, and have been from the beginning, a big fan of David Cronenberg. Now I have added his talented son to my list of favorite directors.
@@pattiray8542 I'm also a huge fan of David Cronenberg, and I watched "A History of Violence", "Eastern Promises" and "The Dead Zone" for the first time last year. I still haven't seen "Videodrome" or "Scanners", which are the pinnacles of body horror in the 1980's. Also, both "Crash" and "Infinity Pool" could make a great double feature as well.
