i'm a vtuber.
A VTuber (ブイチューバー, BuiChūbā), or virtual CZcamsr (Japanese: バーチャルユーチューバー, Hepburn: bācharu YūChūbā), is an online entertainer who uses a virtual avatar generated using computer graphics. Real-time motion capture software or technology are often-but not always-used to capture movement. The digital trend originated in Japan in the mid-2010s, and has become an international online phenomenon in the early 2020s.[1] A majority of VTubers are English and Japanese-speaking CZcamsrs or live streamers who use avatar designs. The first entertainer to use the phrase "virtual CZcamsr", Kizuna AI, began creating content on CZcams in late 2016. Her popularity sparked a VTuber trend in Japan, and spurred the establishment of specialized agencies to promote them, including major ones such as Hololive Production, Nijisanji, and VShojo. depends on the rigging, I think the more advanced models you'll see sad faces when people cry.
Having to toggle a cry face and actually doing so while crying seems like when children cry and they peek between their fingers to see if someone is watching

I like when the vtuber model is just sitting there quietly with a dopey smile even though something really messed up just happened, but gradually you realize that the person behind the model is actually sitting there in stunned horror, unable to say or do anything.

This is precisely why I prefer more accurate face tracking over toggles. Sure, toggles can have more artistic flair, but what good is that if your brain doesn't compulsively go to switch the toggle when you get that emotion?
That's why you control your model like Dizzy does: don't even leave the happy toggle on by default

Yes. If vtubers are effecting how you interpret people's emotions, you might be watching vtubers too much.
I can understand both ends. It can be weird for people who think about it cause ‘well how sad can you really be?’ But then I can see it from the vtubers side as them just being so dedicated to their fanbase (think of all the vtubers who apologize for even the slightest things) and/or just muscle memory from doing the toggles
