  • In an exclusive talk, recorded especially for TEDxHousesofParlament, the Burmese opposition Party leader and Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi discusses 'why democracy matters'. She was formerly one of the world's most prominent political prisoners, and is widely acknowledged as a leading pro-democracy campaigner.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Aung San suu Kyi has been talking about " basic human rights " since and probably before she was awarded the Nobel prize for Peace. I hope that the Nobel prize committee is watching the plight of Rohingya community depicted in the BBC videos and other sources mainly available on CZcams. Aung San suu Kyi is turning a blind eye to these percicuted people many of them being small children and women.

Gini S K Dear Gini, If you would like to talk or discuss on the topic, especially in politics, please make sure to learn on it deeply and clearly. We, Burmese, know better about our country than others. She is not the one who has the responsibility for this matters, but the previous regime military dedicators should have deal with this. This was the political trick made by dedicators. On this other hand, there has a rule that could not able to take the actions for the mistakes that was done by dedicators. The fredoom in Myanmar was not gotten automatically - thousand of thousand of people gave their lives and scarfired to fight to become what Myanmar today exist. Myanmar can be lost the freedom again if the dedicators still want to govern again because Aung San Suu Kyi still could not able to controll all the aspects of Myanmar, especially the military. The politics in Myanmar is more complicated than you see. Aung San Suu Kyi tried to handle this issue carefully with the international organization and she even nominate Muslim political candidate for this year election to welcome in our society. On the other side, we had the religious conflict in our society in the last decades agon. Hence some of the local conservative people argue with her for nominating Muslim people. Our country has destoryed for the purpose for more than 50 years. We have so many problems to slove it. FYI; Our country has the record of longest civil war in this world. She is in the middle of line to make the balance for our society.

One wrong word from her and she could be framed as a traitor and lose power before she can change anything for her country. The country would shut down as the military takes over again. Would you want that to happen? I have faith in her and she knows many things that we dont.
