Almost laid it over 20’ from the guys driveway! Luckily a pine tree blocked him and the wife from witnessing it but I should have asked the guy when the last time was that he rode it! Lesson learned

I had a 2005 Road King Custom in vivid Black. There were big issues with the front brake set up from factory. Something about no room for a spacer that should have been in there that they left out. Yes it’s cool that the bag reflectors are there. I replaced mine several times and then just gave up. Were there locks on the bags? They offered that at the time. The RKC was also lower than a standard Road King. There were several recalls on the bike. If you do get it, I’d put a windshield on it. That little fairing flare up from the headlight pushed wind right into my chest. I actually found MY bike at a rally here in Illinois. The guy who has it loves the mods I did. J&M handlebar speakers, V&H True Duels. Screaming Eagle Slip Ons and intake, and detachable windshield. My head stock head pipe cracked just outside the cylinder at Sturgis in 2012. The Dealership wanted $1,200 to replace the head pipes. V&H rep was there and offered True Duels installed for $400. I think he felt bad for me.

Mr Monk, where do I begin. I think it all depends on your age as a teen in the seventies if it started it was a good used bike, our base line was a dollar a CC, a quick re-paint of the year portion of the licence plate which at that time here in Ontario stayed with the bike and you're riding. In the 2000's for me it was the more mods the better case and point my 2001 zx12 which was tuned with all the add on's the most fun you can have with your cloths on. And alas now as a older more mature buyer as in my last purchase an Ultra limited lowest mileage possible with the least modifications and service history. And I do like the gunship grey CVO if it checks out mechanically what a little road rash you really cant see.

Crank went out in less than a thousand miles more like 500 , I now have a SS engine in there . The M8 can have sumping problems . As for the two bikes in question, they are the same bike, just the front is different. Will say this, they named them correctly. The street glide is better for the street, the road glide is better for the road. The road glide seems to cut through the air better. Again just my two pennies...

I have two bad used Harleys that I bought ON PURPOSE. Heres why ..... Both are FXRs. One is an 82 shovelhead FXR . First year for the model. Im still slowly restoring it. Hard to find parts for this one. The other is an 86 FXR. Not restoring . Just rebuilding and making it like I want it to be. Could care less about its condition when I bought both of them. FXR. Nobody sells them. hard to find. So the 82 had a wrist pin clip let go and its rear cylinder gored all to hell when I bought it. Aftermarket pipes. Aftermarket handlebars. wrong seat. I rebuilt the motor. Found the correct seat. Still searching for the stock exhaust. The 86 . Well that thing had a vice grip attached to its shift shaft in order to shift gears. Splines on the shaft were wasted, When I took off the outer primary no fluid came out . Yup EMPTY no primary fluid in there. So new clutch pates. New primary adjuster shoe. Turns out the seal behind the clutch leaked. Replaced all that along with a new shift shaft. The pulleys for the final belt drive were wasted. When I removed the pulley off the rear wheel the ring behind the pulley that is part of the rear wheel simply fell off LMFAO! I hate mags so I laced up a nice spoked rear wheel. replaced the brake caliper. All that just to take it for a first ride. it smokes . Burns oil. LOL. Next is a new top end. Then it needs a spoked front wheel to match the rear. seat needs repair. Im gonna replicate Mickey Rourkes Black death that he rode in harley davidson and the marlborough man. Just the paint and how it looked . I knew what I was getting when I bought these bikes.

I cant stand the drama of buying a bike when you cant touch it. I love the color, dont mind the scrape but would have preferred to do my own mods. That being said, its tough to get a new CVO right now especially when you narrow colors. The dealerships I have been speaking to want to sell to a "local" for the long term purchases and "relationship"... Thanks again Mr. Monkey, I will keep you posted...

Always look for what a seller may be trying to hide. Do your research. Look at absolutely everything on the bike. Let it idle. Check for issues. Leaks. Does it go down the road ? Shift through the gears. Etc. What's the time stamp on the tires ? Etc. Attention to detail. That way you don't waste the sellers time. You don't waste YOUR time. 😊

I have a little telescopic mirror that comes in handy for looking into "hidden" spaces.
I use it for looking inside acoustic guitar bodies. Searching for damage or crap repairs
Seems like it would come in real handy for looking underneath bikes as well.
I don't own a bike, but with my retirement coming in the next year it might be time to treat myself.

If its a bagger I take the bags off and look at the rear with a flashlight. everything from the brake pads to the belt. Feel and look under the bike for anything banged up. Also check the paint for any sign of a drop or accident. I check the VIN on the VIN Harley look up and see if there are any recalls and if they have been done. Listen to the bike at idle for anything not normal. I also have the owner of the bike drive it up and down the street and hit all the gears to hear how the bike is.

    • @michaelxwhite
      @michaelxwhite Před 3 lety

Good advice, but I dont go as far as Vin check for recalls, by that time with the bikes i buy there would already be someone else in the driveway waiting to hand the seller cash.

Mileage doesn’t really scare me, I look at it this way, if you look at a bike that has for example 100,000 miles and it’s very clean, everything works, nothing is worn out like tires, brake pads, etc then it’s probably still a good bike, it was cared for and maintained

    • @ProfessionalMonkey

Living in the UK Harley’s are an expensive item any touring model unless it has been to the moon and back won’t be below $10,000 EVO’s included that is reasonable dyna money. The only two cheap Harley’s are sportsters and streets though sportsters have a minimum price of about $3500 . People make a living by importing Harley’s from the US and I have seen 60-80,000 mile FXR’s that need a lot of work on eBay for $6000 and they are finding buyers. Pre 1980’s bikes are massively expensive compared to the states as there are very few genuine imports as HD didn’t really get it’s act together in the UK until the eighties though Warrs of London have been a dealership since the 1920’s .

I've never bought a new bike in my life. I just can't justify spending that kind of money. I bought a 05 Super Glide a couple years ago with 2500 miles on it. The bike had a stage 4 upgrade done a the time of purchase along with custom paint and wheels. The dude paid $36K in 05 when he bought it. I got it for $8K along with all the original parts that would have come on a stock Super Glide.

The idle on 114 and 117 is 950 not the 850 of the 107 at full heat saturation unless the tune has changes idle speed ... most of the 114 ,117 equipped units that have more electronics than some standard 107 equipped putting more load on the electrical system and stator output hence the slightly higher stock idle speed to keep up.....The RKC 04 -05 is in fact the Father of the Streetglide and NOT the EGS everyone assumes ..... the aero wheels bullet turns etc appeared on the 2006 Streetglide ... love the channel

I was kinda green when I bought my first HD. I only thought to check for fluid leaks. Come to find out the front motor mount was completely gone and it had a small crack at the y- tube of the exhaust header. Once those two were fixed it was all good. But if I had known to check those items I would have offered less than what I paid. Live and learn.

I just bought a brand new to me Harley at the dealership, and wanted to have some extras added. I inquired about having crash bars installed on the rear. Could I do it? The service writer explained that the existing bar had to be cut and hole drilled in it. This was not the case. I was also told that to add the windshield lights that the ferring and gas tank had to be removed. I asked if when installing an ACC switch installed with the wire harness if it would leave me wires to tie into for my future underglow set up. The SR said there would be no pigtail just wires for a Harley tech to use. All lies to get me in for a 5 hours of service that I could have all done myself. Plug and play bolt on items. $500 in labor after I complained they wanted $750. So either the lack of product knowledge or flat out lying has ruined dealer service for me.

ONCE YOU WRITE THE CHECK, take the bike home.
When I bought my 04 Roadking, I was on my 06 Deluxe. I came back the next day with a trailer because the bike had sat for 7 years. I knew from the tank cleaning to the heads and oil pump and all the rubber, I had my work cut out for me. Three days in my garage with no sleep, i fired her up and went for a ride.
I got half way across the little Iowa town I lived in and sucked a valve. Before my friend got to me with his trailer i called the seller. he actually admitted to taking it for a glory ride?? The dumbass burned that varnish in the tank and set up a heap of trouble for me.
While rebuilding the engine, I pulled his stupid Eagle head grips { that were upside down} and found the brass ferrels loose in the grip cup.
He hadn't known they go on the ends of the throttle and return cable lines over the lead ends!
Silly things to look out for? The bottom of the heads were black as oil. Evidence of not changing them oil regularly!
    Hoka Hey
I love the 05 Roadking Thank You for the link
