MATT GOODWIN: Why Labour's Push for 16-Year-Old Votes is a Disaster

  • In this provocative video, I dive into the controversial debate on whether 16-year-olds should have the right to vote. I argue that 16-year-olds lack the intellectual and emotional maturity to make such crucial decisions and that this push by Labour is nothing more than a blatant power grab to rewire our political system in their favour. We need to focus on real issues, not gimmicks that serve political agendas. Join me as I expose the motivations behind this proposal and why it could fundamentally alter the landscape of British politics.

My point Einstein is that if the people who WERE gonna' vote for Reform give their votes to the Tories, then the Tories will win the G.E.
The Tories will still have their die-hard voter core on top of those extra ex-Reform votes. We really have no other choice I'm afraid if we want to keep Labour out. Believe me, if you think things are bad just now, just go ahead and vote for Labour THEN run for the hills - because the UK will be an Islamic Caliphate within 5 years, with Sharia Law imposed on everyone.

By your logic if a man or woman leaves the workforce to bring up their children then they should lose the vote for that period too. You must also think that disabled people shouldn't be able to vote if they can't work. What about if people receive 'in work benefits'? In Scotland your childs school will still call you if they dont turn up for school that day at 16+. I thought this was quite odd and asked them if my son was married would they call his wife instead (he was just late for registration). I did not receive a sensible answer. At the same time, the SNP want softer sentencing for under 25 year olds as they are not full mentally developed to understand risk and right from wrong. The age of criminal responsibility in Scotland is 12, rest of UK it is 10.
It seems we all have some serious inconsistency in our thinking about appropriate age of responsibility and maturity.

There had been some analysis of maturity by age between people of various ages in the year the show was broadcast compared with those in the mid-1960s (I think). If memory serves, it was found that a 16-year-old in the mid-1960s was about as mature as a 25-year-old in the year the debate took place. Given that and the infantilisation of today's youth, perhaps we should be RAISING the age at which one can vote, not lowering it. A bare-faced power-grab by Labour, for sure. They're not deemed responsible enough to:
    1. Drive
    2. Drink
    3. Smoke
But they're old enough to decide who runs the country?
Ask a 16 year old to name the last 3 prime ministers.
Now ask them to name the Kardashians.
They don't have one iota of life experience to vote. They'll vote for whoever gives them a discount on Netflix.

They can drink and smoke, they just can't buy alcohol or tobacco. 17 year olds can drive. When I was 16 I could have named the last ten prime ministers, I've never cared at all about the Kardashians. not all teenagers fit into your condescending stereotypes

@@j.x.x.r3645 But more than enough that they can't be trusted with it. I doubt you've been 16 in a long time. And no, they can't smoke.

We simply need to go back a few decades. Country worked fine back then. Standards and discipline separate us from the animals, we abandon them no surprises. Good men need to stand up again.

If you really believe that pick a random 16 year old off of the street and let them run your finances. Put you money where your mouth is - literally.

bruh the 19th century wants it's policies back
seriously though, why do you want a double standard between men and women? between rich men and poor men? between women with two or three children? that's absolute madness

16 year olds who earn more than 12k pay tax so virtually none. You have to be in full time education until 18.

If anyone wants PR instead of FPTP, then all they have to do is look at Belgium which didn't have a government for two years, and the mess in Northern ireland.
