- čas přidán 20. 10. 2021
- Final episode of my first solo camper van tour of Scotland - I visit Banchory (staying at Silverbank C&MH Club Site for 2 nights), Crathes Castle and cycle my foldable electric bike along the Deeside Way.
En route home, my SatNav gives me a pleasant surprise by taking me along the B974 Banchory to Fettercairn road up and over Cairn O' Mount where I see vintage sports cars passing by while taking in the scenic views.
The perfect end to a fantastic 10 days. Roll on the next one!

Hi Sue, Ive really enjoyed watching your very first trip and look forward to many more. You’re an inspiration to people and a very brave lady. Well done on your accomplishments. Take care hope to see more of your videos soon xx
A huge thank you for such a kind and supportive comment Sandra 😊 I appreciate you watching along, and this was just the first of many longer trips to come. In the meantime, I'll still be uploading once a week, when I get out for my regular fix of van therapy! All the best to you, Sue xx
You’ve brightened up another day for many, all the best Sue.
That’s very kind! Thank you. All the best to you too 😊👍🏻
What a lovely place! I did laugh as you drove round choosing your pitch 🤣 I never want to be by the glass recycling bins (too noisy!) and Slaw always gets his compass out to find a pitch which gets the evening sun ☀️ The castle grounds were stunning. Thank you for taking us on this trip, we’ve really enjoyed it. Much love, Mrs Slaw xx
Haha, Bri always left the choice to me and I always went with afternoon/evening sunshine and as out of the way as possible! Thanks for watching and commenting. xx
Great video with lovely music Sue. Very funny watching you trying to get your brain into gear and remember the name of the castle.
Thank you for sharing your Scotland adventure xx
I know, it was a proper brain fog moment! Thanks for following the mini adventure. I loved every moment. Roll on the next one. xx
Lovely film, Sue. And some verdant scenery. I really enjoyed your trip to Scotland and glad it was a healing experience for you.
Thanks for watching along Gray. I’m glad you enjoyed it. It was a big deal to me as my first proper solo trip 😊👍🏻

HI CMW, I'm so glad you enjoyed my mini tour. I certainly did! Thanks for watching along. Roll on the next one! ATB, Sue x

"Onwards" 🤣 That's a fab pitch Sue. And lots of tranquility, Gorgeous scenery too. All in all a great well organised trip. It's been a pleasure to watch you plot your way around. Fab Vlog(s) 😊
Hi John, thanks for watching the trip. It’s been a great experience and I can’t wait to do my next longer trip. I’ll be getting out in the van all year round though, no stopping! Take care, Sue 👍😁
Scotland is beautiful. You have captured some great footage but more importantly made new memories. Forgive me if I particularly liked the classic cars 😊 Congrats on completing your first solo camper tour. Take care Sue. Paul, Fran and the Minions.
It most certainly is beautiful no doubts about that. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment. ATB, Sue.

Hi Ann, thanks for watching and following my trip. Here’s to the next one! ATB x
Loved the birdsong at Banchory.
Hi Alan, loved sitting there listening to the birds it was very calming 😊
Fab as always Sue, you look so happy and so glad you found this such a healing experience despite the bumps in the road. Can't wait to catch up, much love xx
Thanks for watching Trace. I did come back on the closest thing to a high I've known in 2 years. Great experience. See you soon xx
Congratulations on completing your first solo camping trip Sue. Looking forward to sharing many more with you.
Hi Ian. Thanks so much for joining me, that’s the first one under my belt! 😁
Hello! My husband is from an area of Banchory in Aberdeenshire called (try saying this) Tullochevenus -Tull ooh ven uss. We go up to see his sister every few years who coincidentally works at Crathes Castle. Aberdeenshire and Deeside a beautiful part of the world. Yes it is extremely peaceful but the motorists race around the roads like maniacs. Yet feels like nobody is there. Such a shame you didn’t get to visit Aboyne too. Thanks for sharing this Vlog
Hi Sara 👋 I hadn’t heard of Tullochvenus but I have now! There’s never enough time to see it all so return visits are a must. I especially want to visit Aboyne because of the link with my Mum. Beautiful area. I just love all I’ve seen of Scotland so far 😍
What another beautiful trip😍
Thanks Hannah. I loved Scotland 😍 x
Thanks for a lovely trip. I so glad you enjoyed it. Onward and KBO!!
Hi Jenny, thanks for watching and commenting. Glad you liked it. Yep ONWARD and KBO! Take care x
Well done, you. Really enjoyed the vlogs and the lovely places you visited. Glad you enjoyed it and you felt the benefit. Enjoy planning the next one!
Thank you Carol, I'm chuffed that you enjoyed the vlogs! Already thinking about the next one, in the meantime getting out for shorter trips. Vanya doesn't stand still for long 😉👍
I’m sad your Scotland trip has come to an end because I really enjoyed watching it. I’m looking forward to seeing your next adventure. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks very much Sylvia, I’m desperate to get out and about again. Hopefully not too long until I can. Take care 😊
Loved following you on this tour Sue…..looking forward to the next …. And all your adventures in between xx
Thanks very much Mo. As you know, I can't wait for the next! 😊 xx
Thank you Sue that was a lovely series of videos and we are really pleased you enjoyed your first solo adventure 🥰
We actually stayed on exactly the same pitch in August, loved the campsite and Crathes Castle grounds too, it was shut for us as well 😂
Looking forward to your next trip, excellent scene setting and framing in your videos by the way, they get better every time and really impressive 👍
Ha, really? same pitch? We choose well! Just near enough to the facilities block but nicely backed against the hedging 👍. Thanks for following the tour it was a blast 😊
Loved hearing the bird song while you put your bed away. Lovely views at that Cairn o' Mount. We stuck our firsts ticker this trip too lol.
There was a lot of birdsong on this trip it was really beautiful and calming 😊 x
Fantastic effort. Can’t wait for next tour 👍💙❤️
Cheers for that! Appreciated. I can’t wait either! 😊👍🏻 🚐
Another great video Sue, getting that bike was a master stroke. And fair play for doing your first solo trip…ONWARRRRRD, to your next adventure 👍
Cheers Mick! Yep that bike is a Godsend and has changed everything about how I explore when vanning. Hope all is going well with your van and plans, you must have nearly rebuilt it by now have you? 😂. All the best 👍
We used to go to Silverbank CMHC site years ago, Banchory is a lovely place, David was working in Aberdeen at the time and my work had told me I had 3 days holidays left, so I was to use them or lose them that week. No chance of me losing holidays so we booked Silverbank and David Commuted to Aberdeen from there. I had a great explore around and walked everywhere. Crathes is a lovely castle as is Drum which is just along the road.. we have so much history around this area that you are really spoiled for choice. Standing stones, castles, walks etc.. So happy you enjoyed your trip around Scotland.. we will catch up with you again, soon I hope xx
Hi Lindsay thanks for watching and following and being part of my first solo tour! I’m glad you enjoyed the videos. Yes it was certainly the right area of choice for me, I loved every minute! Take care both, xx
Thanks for sharing this wonderful trip through Scotland! So beautiful 🥰We've been wanting to do vanlife for some time and we will certainly keep coming back to your channel for more updates! New friends here! Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺
Hello new friends 🖐 Wow, Australia! I think your my first Australian subscribers. I appreciate you dropping by and have subscribed back. All the best, Sue 🙂👍
Hi Sue. Still dancing to your theme tune. 😂 I love a camp site with boundary hedges. Value my privacy and also stops my dogs being a pain for non dog loving people. Although clearly there’s something wrong with anyone who doesn’t love dogs. You’re getting your moneys with out of that bike. 👍🏻 Good to see you. Stay safe out there. X
Haha, catchy tune innit! I agree re. dogs, all animals actually. We humans could learn a lot from them! The bike is a great addition to my trips. Thanks for watching. Take care, Sue 😊
What a good trip....all the videos were interesting and put together well...feels like your there with you. Bet you can’t wait for the next one now. Xx
Cheers Lee. It's probably a good job you weren't all there with me because as we know I don't get much recording done when you are ... Blackpool? 😂🤣 x
Hi Sue, thank you for sharing your videos, I've really enjoyed them. I bought an identical van to yours (mine has two doors at the back) about a year ago and have just started the conversion with a local company. Watching your videos has been a real inspiration... Thank you...
That’s fantastic news. Glad that I help inspire! Have you joined Team Ascot Grey then? Will you be vlogging? Thanks for joining me on my adventures, Sue 🙌🏻😊🚐
@@CamperVanya Hi Sue, when I saw the van in the dealership, it was the colour that really sold it for me...so yes, happy to be a member of ' Team Ascot Grey" I have been a landscape photographer for well over twenty years, mainly photographing Scotland, which is where I live... In recent years I haven't travelled as much, but plan to change that once my van is finished which will hopefully be mid September. Not sure about vlogging, but when I see the relaxed way you do it, perhaps I could give it a ago... The idea of extended journeys in my camper really appeals to me, so watch this space...! Regards, Colin...
@@scotiavanlife78 That sounds like a good plan. Let me know if you do and I’ll be sure to follow/sub your channel back. If not maybe you will share your photos on Instagram. Either way best wishes for very happy travels in the van. I’m sure you’ll have great times. ATB, Sue 😊👍🏻
Hi Sue. Fantastic place amazing views. Xx stay safe xx
Hi, yes it was an amazing Scotland experience. Can’t wait to go back! ATB to you and stay safe too xx
Great to watch I feel as if I’m with you on your journeys. Best wishes from “Mouse” my VW California Ocean and me 💖👍
Hi Jeanette, thanks for joining me on them and all the best to you and Mouse. A Cali Ocean oooh lovely 😍😊 x
A gerat Video again ! We really enjoyed it❤️
We also love it to create Videos while we are exploring the Nature like you☺️
Best regards Lilia & Kai
Hi Lilia & Kai. Thanks for visiting and for your lovely comment. I have subscribed back to your channel and look forward to following your explorations also. All the best, Sue.
@@CamperVanya U are welcome., we know how much work it is to edit a Video like this 😉
Thank you so much 🙏🏼
Hi Sue! I've enjoyed following your trip. Glad it all went well for you👍 Loved those classic cars👍😁
Hi Des, thanks for following along. I'm glad you enjoyed it, roll on the next one! ATB, Sue 👍
Crathes Castle gardens is worth a look according to our next door neighbour. She used to be head gardener there.
Always fancied Cairn O'Mount for an overnight but always seems so busy.
If you hit the road you must come back.
Without a doubt the gardens at Crathes look stunning. At Cairn o’Mount there was just me and the photographer chap for the brief time I was there but can imagine it getting busy for overnighting. I’d love to return! 👍
Well done Sue, that’s an epic first trip and I’m so glad you took us with you. I got a proper flashback at the campsite, the number of times we driven round and round arguing about which pitch - I do prefer a hedge and my ‘back to the wall’ too. Beautiful filming, can’t wait to see Scotland now. I’ll bet your home seems huge after the van, see how long you can last before Vanya calls again. Take care.
Hi Jane thanks for coming along. First solo trip under my belt feels good. Bri always left me to choose the pitch he really wasn’t that bothered where we pitched! Vanya has been calling since I got back but getting away is easier said than done right now. Working on it though. ATB x
@@CamperVanya I think the best thing about a van is it doesn’t need to be an actual booked trip. You can turn a Tesco visit into a trip out, once you’re driving your own kitchen and loo about you’re sorted! X
@@janec1861 of course! Yes that’s the great thing and quick trips are easy enough. I’m meaning more trips of longer durations where I can explore further afield x
Another excellent vlog Sue having a catch up afternoon today , great campsite that looked can't wait to explore Scotland again next year.Lovely bike ride you had there.
I can recommend checking out the east coast it had lots of hidden gems. The bike is invaluable for reaching places I wouldn't be able to walk to. A lovely club site too 😊
I love your videos and your sense of humour, I feel we are on the same page.
That’s heartwarming to hear, nice when someone really gets you. Thanks Elizabeth 😁👍🏻
Sue love it thank you love mandy
It was an interesting area to explore by bike 👍🏻
Lovely vlog, as always, we're doing Scotland next year, will look out for your stickers! 🙃
Sad to see this is the last in this series, hopefully you'll be hitting us with more vlogs soon.
Love the way your bed goes together! 🙃
Hiya, thanks for watching. That was my one and only sticker placement so far haha. Still getting out every week whatever the weather 👍🏻
We have right enjoyed your as Scottish trip Sue. Some lovely places visited and the bike rides have added to the adventure. Where next? Have a good weekend x
Thanks both, I enjoy watching yours too. The bike has added a new dimension for sure - it was definitely a good buy! Not sure where next yet, but l'm enjoying looking. Take care, Sue x
Great video! 👍
Thanks it was a great place to visit 😊
Love the new vlog, and your bike ride looked cool too. I enjoyed watching 😉 Great video
Hi there. Cheers, the bike is a game changer! 😊👍
I’ve been looking at classic campers all morning and then looked at vlogs! Enjoyed watching this and subscribed no 999 - who will be 1000???
Hiya and thanks very much! Glad you liked the vlog. It was a great 10 day trip to Scotland. I've subscribed back to you and look forward to watching your travels too. ATB, Sue 👍
I missed this one somehow - great first series Sue enjoyed following you around and well done on the video production - every day a learning day …. That was a nice site and your like us re boundary’s for privacy saves me bloody windbreak lol
Thanks for following my first trip. Yes learning the video production from scratch and loving the process. I honestly doubt I’ll ever look at a windbreak again without thinking of you! 😂
👍Thank you.
Thank you too! 🙂👍
Lovely spot that , we passed Silverdale Campsite earlier in the year we thought it looked nice. We were on the way to Balmoral Castle, they have over night parking. Thanks for sharing.
Balmoral sounds great. I can’t wait to return to this area. Thanks for watching. ATB, Sue x
Lovely site! Surprised at the lack of traffic noise from the main road. Not stayed there yet. 👍 Graeme
Do you I hadn’t thought about the noise and now I mention it I don’t remember hearing much of it to say I was only the other side of the hedge. It was definitely a lovely, peaceful, spacious site 👍
Great video, you can really tell you was thinking about the edit when you filmed this by the variety of shots and transitions, something about a reveal shot that keeps you watching. So many people give no thought to how it will edit and just take random shots.
We love this part of Scotland and think it might be our big trip next year.
Firstly, I can’t recommend this area enough. Certainly ticked the boxes for me.
Secondly, thanks for your appreciative comment about the editing because I do try to vary the shots and angles, etc which can be quite challenging when travelling alone so cheers for that! 👍😊
Been there! In the summer. The castle gardens were amazing. Shame they were closed. Been to that campsite as well. Take care.
Ju
Xx
Hi Ju, yes the gardens looked amazing but because they were shut I really appreciated parts of the grounds I might otherwise have just walked past especially the lake it was soooo peaceful. Hope you’re both good. Take care, Sue xx
Looks really nice place there mate great video we will be up Scotland next year with my new camper van jan🙏🙏✌️✌️👌👌👌🥃
Sounds great, bet you can’t wait. I’ll definitely be back up there too. ATB 👍🚐
It's a lovely drive down from the Cairn O'Mount. How has your first trip away been? You look relaxed and as though you were happy 🙂 Hopefully it's inspired more trips away that we can join you on xx
Hi Claire, this first trip was amazing. I loved it, and had become really relaxed and at peace with travelling alone by this end point. It has definitely inspired more trips away, the sooner the better for me. I’m glad you want to join me on them too, it’s appreciated! I’ll still be doing one/two nighters until I can get away for longer. The drive up and down Cairn o’Mount on such a beautiful day was a pretty special end to this trip 👍😊 xx
Nice blog! Surrouding that Castle and small river looked beautiful. However liked most the Cairn O' Mount, its like Exmoor here. btwn we'r driving to Isle of Skye is a few hours and staying there for 5 days, hoepfully the Scottish island weather keeps under favour. TC
Cheers and fingers crossed for you weather-wise 🤞. I agree Cairn o Mount is pretty special. One to return to for sure. Happy travels! 👍🏻
It looks a great route you took but we decided to travel down the coast which we enjoyed especially arbroath and most of the coastal villages offgrid
Hi yes, no end of possible routes and so much more to explore. Just made my route up as I went along, there were lots more villages like you mention I just couldn't fit them all in. Maybe next time! 😊
You picked a perfect pitch to relax with your book in the sunshine!… Threw up a question in my head…So what goes on in your head when your looking for a pitch? Near to people for safety or away for solitude? Near to bin/water/waste facilities for convenience or more distant to avoid people traffic? Shade or Sun ? More level? What’s the main thing that decides or is it just a feeling? Sorry for bombardment but really interested to know x Fantastic footage and glad you got home safely Sue x
Hi Diane, thanks for following the trip and I’m glad you enjoyed it. I certainly did. Ok, here goes: not bothered about safety on campsites because you’re always quite close to others (often too close I do prefer more space!), don’t like being next to bins/waste/filling areas I’m happy to walk to them and avoid people traffic, I avoid pitches that are obvious temptations for people to lazily walk through to get to the toilet/shower/other facilities (this would irritate me), definitely sun because we never get too much of that in this country and I have a wind out awning if I need it, level is good but doesn’t determine my choice because I have levelling blocks so as long as it isn’t really sloping its fine, prefer grass to hard standing when weather permits, outer pitches preferable to central at busy times, and the rest is just a feeling at the time i.e. if there look to be ‘busy’ units parked up I might not park next to them as I personally am seeking peace and quiet and birdsong! 😁 x
Great end to this series, you looked really relaxed reading in the sun on that campsite. We enjoyed joining you on your bike ride and that burger looked well tasty😋 Take care, look forward to the next one ❤️
Hi both, thanks for joining me throughout my mini series, I was actually really relaxed on the site in the sunshine and sat there for a couple of hours reading. I’m quite good at balancing activity and rest haha. Take care ❤️ x
What a lovely Scotland trip. It all looked lovely. Just a shame when it comes to an end.
Scotland is beautiful.
Have you got any plans for your next trip yet.
Hello Lizz, it really was a special trip. I haven't made further plans for a longer trip yet, trying to arrange things so that I can get away again. In the meantime, I'll still be doing one/two nighters away in the van any chance I get! Thanks for watching 👍
Truly loved your Scotland series, thanks for sharing it. We were interested to see your mains cable going in under the bonnet of Vanya.
We have a VW van which we prefer to keep 'stealth' and would like to be able to use EHU without our tailgate tent when it is cold or windy but we don't want to put a socket on the outside of the van. Your method looks like an idea solution. We would appreciate if you could give more details of how that works.
Hi there, glad you enjoyed it as much as I did 😊.
Re. the ehu, I’m not very technically minded(!) but its just a standard ehu socket located under the bonnet, plugs in just the same as those on the side of the vehicle. If you want to email me I can send you photos if that would help? Otherwise, if its more about the fitting, I had it done by Ben and the lads at The Custom Shop, Liverpool. They’re great to deal with and could probably explain more for you www.thecustomshop.co.uk/
@@CamperVanya Hi Sue, thanks for your quick reply. I have sent you an email and would really appreciate any photos as we are in N.E. Essex and would hope have any work done locally.
@@dappleddays4546 No probs, will do 👍
Hello Sue, am vicariously enjoying your journey ~ do you know the name/performer of the song (pianist) which played whilst you were roaming around the castle grounds? Thanks for sharing your travels ~
Hi Heather, thanks for watching and leaving a comment its appreciated. The song is ‘Feeling Minnesota’ by Gavin Luke. Beautiful isnt it ❤️
Hi Sue, loving your vlogs. I'm getting my first camper van in the New Year and these videos have been really useful. here's a lot i need to find out about using the van. Can i ask you why you've got the hook-up going under the bonnet as well as to the side of the van?
Hiya, good luck with the new van. Thanks for supporting the channel too. The hook-up is only underneath the bonnet 😊👍
@@CamperVanya Haha! Thanks for that- i've only ever seen the hook-up point on the side of the van, I live and learn.
@@sinesmillie1687 I had too but the conversion guys fit it under the bonnet. I like it there it’s neat and out of the way 👍🏻
Great video sue.
How the hell do you keep your van so clean and tidy?? 😁
I do try to keep on top of things haha but when I'm parked up or hopping between stops each day things look very "lived in"! 😀
Hi sue good to se some one filming around my area the cairn o mount I’m at fettercairn
Hi Gary, I loved my visit to your area. Stunning, so much to offer & I can’t wait to return and explore some more 😊🚐
Great series Sue. I really enjoyed watching them... (and slightly jealous)..!!
Was that vandalism I saw there...😲😲 ... 🤣🤣
Sssh! 😉😆 … glad you enjoyed it. Can’t wait for my next trip up there.
