Full highlights of the Canada vs. Russia semi-final game at the 2009 World Junior Hockey Championship in Ottawa, including Eberle's game-tying goal and the shootout.
It's so weird how Pierre McGuire goes on and on about Tavares after the Eberle goal when Ellis and Eberle made the really impressive plays on that shift.
Tavares goes into three Russians and comes up with the puck, is able to throw it on net. yeah without Ellis the game is done. Without Eberle pretty much just not fucking up the game is done. But the most skill on that play was Tavares.
Haha… typical McGuire tho… Can you believe it? “I CAN…. Blah blah blah ice the puck… the crowd was waiting on Tavares magical play…. Tavares…. MAGICAL PLAY” 😂😂 man listening to Pierre is always so cringe and this made me laugh. Good memories Good job Eberle
Man nobody ever mentions the fact that Ryan Ellis whos about 5’7”.... launched off his feet into the air, with his arm, into the boards, to keep that puck in the offensive zone and made that ENTIRE play possible for Eberle to score what might possibly be the most clutch goal in not only Canadian World Junior’s Hockey.. but IIHF World Junior’s Hockey history ever!!! Unbelievable moment. I was 15 at the time, standing an inch away from my TV the last minute of that game, and went absolutely bananas when Eberle scored that goal!!!
Everyone says that Pierre ruined the moment, but I'm pretty sure everyone cheering for Canada in this thread was going ape shit crazy when he scored and didn't hear a word that Pierre said.
Gotta love Pierre Mcguire ruining the moment. "I CAN!, CUZ KULITOV ICED THE PUCK...BLAH BLAH BLAH." Yea ok, you're a hockey analyst but let us enjoy the moment. Everybody in the entire nation is jumping up and down in joy and you're trying to constructively break down the situation during all the commotion.
@@2011Oly Pierre McGuire might have been bad here Ray Ferraro is worse. So what are your thoughts Ray after Finland just beat Canada 2-1 in the quarter finals? "Well I don't think Canada could've played any better" Ray Ferraro 2019
@@tylerwatson3506 There aren't too many color commentators left who do a good job of it. I have never liked Pierre's style, but he's far from alone in the category of having too much to say. Yeah, Ray Ferraro is in that camp. Unfortunately, it makes me want to just mute my TV. I really do think it boils down to simply talking too much. Both Ferraro and McGuire have excellent hockey knowledge. But when you're afraid of radio silence, you'll say _anything_ just to keep that noise flowing. Some of the pseudo-intellectual, self-important nonsense that comes out of these guys mouths is nothing short of eye-rolling. So not to pile on to a point that has already been well-made by others, but there really does seem to be an extra dose of self-awareness that needs to be doled out to these in-game hockey talking heads. there are some electric moments during a hockey game where you're actually *hurting* the atmosphere by opening your mouth. To me, Harry Neale is the prime example of a good color commentator. He knew when to talk and what to say, and he was not afraid of that sacred moment when the best thing to do is to shut up, listen, and starting thing about the next _good_ thing to say. @@ianplourde3008 I've always felt that way about McGwire. I don't like his style at all. He talks WAY to much, says the wrong things in unrelatable ways. "Went roof-daddy"? Who says that? He's like the Jim Acosta of hockey commentating.
I still remember when Eberle scored with 5 seconds left. It took me like 10 seconds to realize what happened lol. Eberle is still one of my favorite players to this day.
Alexander Shaw haha yea I was just thinking the same, so many long walk in wristers and then that one where he’s not even close to hugging the post when the play is directly beside him.. brutal.
McGuire, such an utter dork... always knew there was something odd about that type of personality in the game of hockey - the oddity? he's from the USofA.
This is probably one of the best hockey games in Canada history. I remember watching t with my family. I thought it was all over but of course Canada would find a way :P
Such a great call on the tying goal by Gord Miller, and then without any shame that turd burger Pierre McGuire has to blow the moment. Glad we don't see him on TSN anymore.
I was there that night and it was absolutely insane from start to finish but from Eberle's tying goal to the shootout, not one person in the building sat down. It was so loud, we couldn't even hear the music for the anthem after the game so we were almost a full verse ahead. Absolute madness.
I can, because of the fact that, Klyukin ices the puck, and look at the Russian body language now, they're crushed. Tavares had to step up and make a magical play. The crowd loves it, Tavares' magical play...
You're right actually, that looks immensely like Zach Parise's equalizer...incidentally that game was an absolute classic! Certainly a much more intense game than that warm-up against Russia that passed for a Quarter-Final
This was the best tournament I can remember. My dad got me tickets to a few games for Christmas. Including the gold medal game. I told him I didn’t want to go to the gold medal game if Canada wasn’t playing 😂 it was dramatic but everything worked out
On this night, I was driving back to Ontario from Nova Scotia, so I had to listen to this game on the radio, I nearly shat myself when the Russians took the lead. Intense is what this game was to the end.
Fuck man, I really thought Angelo Esposito was gonna have a promising NHL career as a Pro... didn’t really hear much more about him after this tournament! He was a first round pick, 20th overall for Pittsburgh too!!
Canada: This game, 2010 Olympics, 2011 World Juniors opening day. Russia: 2011 World Juniors Gold Medal Game, 2011 World Championships, 2012 World Juniors semifinals.
good game)The unique deserved victory of Canadians over us... and beautiful:) Without considering Vancouver. And more I also don't remember, when you the last time beat us:)
It's so weird how Pierre McGuire goes on and on about Tavares after the Eberle goal when Ellis and Eberle made the really impressive plays on that shift.
Tavares literally made the play to Eberle to save us
Matthew Jones without Ellis, the game is over
Tavares goes into three Russians and comes up with the puck, is able to throw it on net. yeah without Ellis the game is done. Without Eberle pretty much just not fucking up the game is done. But the most skill on that play was Tavares.
And Hodgeson's work down low was amazing. He, Ellis and Eberle made this goal.
Pierre was lickin Tavares’s boots all tourney
pierre mcguire just butchered the call
Haha… typical McGuire tho… Can you believe it? “I CAN…. Blah blah blah ice the puck… the crowd was waiting on Tavares magical play…. Tavares…. MAGICAL PLAY” 😂😂 man listening to Pierre is always so cringe and this made me laugh. Good memories

100% agree

Good point. What we need to be saying is he ruined reliving the moment 😂
Thank God. Now ruined on playback.
Tavares, Benn, Kane, Pietriangelo, Eberle. Man this team was stacked.
the defense too... Subban and Ellis were sooo goof
They lost in ot
The 2005 team was stacked....this team was good but never dominated throughout the tournament
Subban, Myers, Ellis, Hodgson, Pickard
Don’t forget Dustin tokarski!!!!
If there's one person I dont miss commentating, it's Pierre McGuire...glad he's gone somewhere else.
The problem is that we haven't won without Pierre commentating...
mfChunky We just did :D

the most iconic Canadian world junior goal ever, and Pierre ruins it by giving a analytic summary of why the goal happened during the celebrations..
Pierre literally ruined the world juniors

7:49 this is the reason you no longer work at TSN....
aaaand Pierre answering a rhetorical question facepalm*
Erik Zarins lol no he got hired by NBC
Nah I hate "I don't think Canada could've played any better" Ray Ferraro after losing 2-1 to Finland in OT
9 years later..... Still chills
I CAN
Underappreciated play by Ellis to allow the goal to happen, this was an epic goal and moment.
Who else is watching this because it’s the world juniors now
Me.

Me

"I can Gord considering Klyukin iced the puck" Lmao
I still remember when Eberle scored with 5 seconds left. It took me like 10 seconds to realize what happened lol. Eberle is still one of my favorite players to this day.
Agreed bud. I love Jordan Eberle so much. It would be epic if the leafs could somehow get him too
never realized how bad our goaltending was that game. should have never even been that close.
Alexander Shaw haha yea I was just thinking the same, so many long walk in wristers and then that one where he’s not even close to hugging the post when the play is directly beside him.. brutal.
Same, so painful to watch
Alot of people forget too that in that one shootout where Toews was scoring all the goals, Price was brutal in that shootout too, let in so many goals
Yeah Tavares' magical play... sure. Ellis made the pinch of the tourney, and Eb's with the skilled hands. I love this shit.
this was the best game in world junior hockey history, hands down
Toews scoring 3 times in the same shootout plenty other been so many great ones this is top 5 can't really say it's the greatest
+Jordan Hanson that russia canada game was the best.. man the games in ottawa were the best
Gold medal game 2016 Finland Russia, maybe a candidate for the best? russia tied the game with 6.9seconds to go
ok so if Canada has to be in it, then how bout the quarter final between Finland and canada in 2016 juniors? it ended 6-5 with Laine scoring the GWG
2010 gold medal game was the best hockey game I've ever watched
a moment that every Canadian hockey fan remembers and cherishes and then .... There's Pierre Mcquire.
7:50 I have never heard a sports announcer interrupt after a tie goal
So we all still get chills every time right?
StuhOwn YESSSSS
I CAN!...ruined it
"CAN YOU BELIEVE IT" will never get old.
It's Gord Miller, not Chris Cuthbert.
Pierre Mcguire ruined this moment.
McGuire, such an utter dork... always knew there was something odd about that type of personality in the game of hockey - the oddity? he's from the USofA.

greatest game ever, the fact i was at the SBP watching was amazing. best moment of my life thus far.
I remember watching this with my dad, good times, that tying goal put me in tears lmao.
Such a great call on the tying goal by Gord Miller, and then without any shame that turd burger Pierre McGuire has to blow the moment. Glad we don't see him on TSN anymore.
Funny he's working the group b bracket this year....
Yes, have always appreciated Gord Miller. As far as callers go, he's near the top as far as I'm concerned. Chris Cuthbert is another one I quite like.
These guys look so much more physically mature than world junior teams nowadays
Wow does watching that game tier ever get my heart racing. Still the greatest moment I've experienced in WJHC
Yet another amazing moment for Canadian hockey. What a goal by Eberle to tie it up with 5.4 seconds on the clock!
That's why u don't ice the puck and then laugh about it after
What a game that was! I remember how excited I was when they won
I was there that night and it was absolutely insane from start to finish but from Eberle's tying goal to the shootout, not one person in the building sat down. It was so loud, we couldn't even hear the music for the anthem after the game so we were almost a full verse ahead. Absolute madness.
Was at that game in section 117, best moment of my 18 year life so far
Look at how many awesome players played for Canada- kane subban pietrangelo eberle Myers and the GOAT Cody hodgson
And Tavares
Dany Fucking Heatley #50in07 #FuckingAllStar dude, if you think that team canada was good, check out the 2005 team.
El Fuego 52 but dispite all of that talent, we had tokarski in net......
And Benn
this game wasamazing to watch live, watched every second of it
Россия и Канада😎
Ellis with the keep in is so under rated in this sequence.
Me and my friends absolutely freaked out when Jordan Eberle got the goal at the End!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It still to this day gives me goosebumps!
One of the best games i have even seen.
One of my favorite games at this tournament all time

Pierre ruined the moment
Canada 🇨🇦 has always been the best team in hockey
man, whatever happened to players on team Canada. Teubert, Esposito, Cormier, Etc. Half the team is busts and didn't even make it to pros!
Except for when he joined the jets
Love how this guy is hating on Dustin did way better then u ever did in life kid
+dudsanddusters Teubert plays in Italy if you care lol
dudsanddusters tuebert got cancer
dudsanddusters I mean Ellis, eberle and tavares
Pierres whoop still pisses me off
I was at this game in Ottawa all I remember is the sound after the goal was intense every one stood up for overtime snd shootout
Came back to this clip for Ryan Ellis, saved the game with the board play and his team finished the job
watch this game never left the room just WOW!!!
Gord Miller is so good on the mic when goals happen. He should be on new nhl games
Ryan Ellis the defence men that came up clutch by keeping it in... he's from my home town!!!!
Awesome goal horn in Ottawa
best hockey game ever
Канада самая сильная от начала и до сегодняшнего дня.

One word; Unbelivable
Most amazing moment ever (other than Crosby's golden goal)

Tavares magical play- a hailmary backhand to the net ;)
