#UmbrellaEntertainment have released a really interesting blu-ray of 1987's MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE starring Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella. Part of the interest is the machinations required to actually get the movie made.

Masters of the Universe is one of those films that perfectly walks the tightrope between bad, and good. Personally, I’ve always liked it.
I did enjoy it this time, which surprised me.
Fellow messy eater here. Loved hearing that standing up for the good increased your subscriber list.
It was a delightful but unintended consequence from speaking up.
12:15 Thanks for always standing up against this kind of narrative - such integrity and objectivity are precious qualities these days. ❤ I find it so ironic that the very same people who like to call everybody else thin-skinned and weak react to the mildest form of opposition like an earthworm to sunlight. You're a wonderful person, Terry, and I keep recommending you to pretty much every film-nerd I'm in touch with. 😊
It's always a pleasure to both recommend the movies and stand beside LGBTQIA+ people. Thanks for the kind words.
You are helping the enemy to turn the next generation of kids into their servants. You are all misguided fools. Tell me, who decided to go from one day to entire month? You don't know, yet you blindly follow. That's why they call you sheep.
Being a Christian and righteous is not synonymous for no one has that right. A true Christian has no judgment
Agreed
Well said, Terry. Delegitimizing humans based on sexual identification is every bit as odious as making them lesser beings based on their race, religion or ethnicity. I'm a pessimist when it comes to the likely outcome of the human race but I still think we need to go down swinging.
For me, pessimism is its own punishment. If you're optimistic and wrong, fair enough. If you're pessimistic and wrong, optimists are going to make fun of you. 😉
You're all lost. The destruction of humanity shall be your reward.
Will have to revisit this one. Like you, I don't remember being particularly fond of it even though I have a lot of time for Dolph. Your closing remarks were brilliant mate. 👌
Thanks, mate. Masters of the Universe was a lot of fun.
Nice one Terry.
My favourite is to ask them "do you wear clothes that mixes different fibres? Oooh, God's going to be very, very cross about that jumper..."
Keep up the splendid work!
Always will, Phil. Thanks, mate.
Skeletor had a better intro scene than Justice League's Darkseid. I'll stand by that opinion.
I can't argue with that. Zach Snyder has a gift for making bad decisions.
Thank you for the whole video. This one and the one with Fiend Without a Face got my subscriotion. Bless you for the kindness durring Pride month. I am sorry for the uncalled for slur from an obvious hater in the comments section from @windupgamecat and I filed a Flag with "Misinformation" as the flag. That poster needs to seriously think on the words "Slander" & "Liable" and my deepest good wishes and support & prayers go out to you. I was nearly killed by haters in an extremely bad attack in my early 20's.
Keep up the good work and your chin, friend.
Alvin A, San Francisco, 77 yrs old & I saw many of your fun movies live in theaters.
Hi Alvin. Always happy to be an ally, mate. Some people aren't being their best selves and we should always call them on it.
Loved this movie. Got it on VHS for my kids back in the 80s and it was just fun.
It definitely a fun one.
Well said sir. Keep on supporting the underdog. Or undercat if there was such a thing😎
I always will.
I was too old for He-Man when the cartoon debuted and the film didn't make me want to run out and see it but over the years I keep hearing it's a cult classic. Saw that Cannon documentary, fascinating stuff. You did right by that goof, support Pride month.
Thanks. MOTU is silly 1980s fun.
It's the reason Superman 4 is so bad. As most of Superman's budget was diverted to it. It's very Dino De Laurentis. You can see a through line from Barbarella through Flash Gordon into this
Yep. 1980s action movies were fantastic and weird.
Diversity is great! Diversity is great in movies too! Though it would be interesting to know what movies god would show in heaven?
The devil has all the good ones. 😀
Great video Terry and an excellent channel. New subscriber and long-time movie fan. (especially shlock, horror and retro sci-fi but also 30s-70s) Great to see some fellow Aussies on CZcams. Well done for calling out the haters. We don't need bigoted BS in any community, on line or IRL. Cheers from Adelaide.
Thanks so much, Peter. Glad to have you aboard. I love Adelaide and have so many great friends there. Stay warm. Glad you like the channel.
All those 'extras' sound like they are definitely added value. The stories behind the story are often more interesting than the "Story." Since our boy is a member of the Rainbow Tribe, we are fully in sync with you and MAGG. Stay safe. (Remember when that referred to carrying 'French letters' about?)
LOL. Give your son a hug for us.
This was a theatrical viewing for me back in the day. I pestered my Mom heavily for this one. Personally, I never minded this deviated from the source material, in that it gave me a MOTU with Terminator and Star Wars elements. It's all a win-win for me! And yeah... the "teenage" drama stuff does kind of slow the movie down when I revisit it, the insane production design, solid action, and LEGENDARY performance by Langella keeps me hooked!
That prosthetic makeup hampered Langella, but he really pushed through it to give Skeletor a lot of rizz.
You have a very nice channel, just do your thing, keep on being you and don’t give any attention to a hater.
Thanks for the kind words and support. 😀
Keep up the good work Terry, don’t give the haters airtime, that’s all they want to get a rise out of you 👍
But mocking them is such fun! 😉😀
Umbrella said that the Blu-ray was only region B, but it works in region A Blu-ray players.
That often happens. Region coding is on its way out, hopefully.
Totally agree with you Terry. I'd also question what's actually meant by "not sleeping with your brother" Are we talking about this "taboo" or something else?
The bible is full of weird, contradictory stuff. Parsing it is never worth the effort.
Ned and Janet saying RIGHT ON TERRY and MAGG as well as LUNA. You nailed exactly what that bible abuser is all about. Actually that type only memorizes a line or chapter that reinforces their hate or bigotry and nothing else. You and we don't need them hanging about neither. Thanks for giving me a different perspective on the He Man movie. Don't know if we'll ever watch it but you made it look much more interesting.
Thanks so much Ned and Janet. Enjoy the summer in Spain, friends. 😀
@@terrytalksmovies Keep cool, healthy and safe guys.
I hadn't heard the one about the bible saying you have to leave your village to poop. That's a good one. 🤣
Another favorite of mine is In Leviticus 11: 20-25, which calls four-legged birds* an abomination. Who can argue with that?
*Unfortunately this depends on the bible translation.
Yep. There's some weird stuff there. Revelations is an acid-dream nightmare.
Perhaps some dinosaurs count(ed) as four legged birds?
four legged birds?! honestly, were some of bible authors stoned or what? that said a four-legged bird (if it were chicken or a duck etc.) would mean more drumsticks!!
i forgot that Courtney Cox was in this!! also a fan of "The Last Boy Scout". but somehow must've missed "He-Man and Masters of the Universe" at the time it was released....and i don't think i had quite as well a developed sense of camp in my teens, (and that "bad" films could be really quite good!). was way too poor for the toys of any of these franchises... so the films were very much the "get in and enjoy it while you can" at the time before things were much easier to see on a regular basis. I've only got the Cinema Cult Blu-ray version which come with no extras, and this director's commentary sounds good!
MOTU toys are going for crazy amounts of money these days. That nostalgia market is a really big one.
@@terrytalksmovies i think when those things get to those prices...we're supposed to call them "action figures" (or "collectors items") not Toys and certainly not Dolls! hehe! what 2nd rate Star Wars figures I had I immediately tore out of the pack and played with, even going as far as cutting off the hand of my Luke Skywalker lol! I was going for authentic! the idea that you'd keep it i the pack, intact and just put on display wasn't really something kids were thinking of in the 1970's. i can barely keep up with the actual film collection let alone any of the merch but kinda wish I'd stuck with the posters.
Keep up with the good work, tolerance, and support for diversity. I agree with all 100 percent, and even if I didn't it's a very good thing. Cheers!
Thanks, Brett. I appreciate the support, mate.
I was a teen in the He-Man hey day but watched He-Man Filmation produced cartoons with my nephews and the feature, I liked the fantasy! In my design job went to the Mattel design center in the 90's, which had a wall of every He-Man toy. Impressive to see! Totally agree Masters Of The Universe movie has some solid hits and yes its share of misses. It's one movie, I would welcome a remake to get more of Eternia and maybe Orko. Thanks for having no room for hate, Terry.
Hate is too bloody exhausting. Sardonic mockery of haters, however, takes minimal effort. 😉😀
I saw this at the cinema in the 80s and superman IV
I saw it on rental VHS if I recall correctly.
They always say they are region B🔒 locked. Is it really region B 🤔 locked? I bought and hope it isn't locked.
It's hard to tell from this end. Often Umbrella ones are secretly unlocked. I hope so for your sake. 😀
Cannon Films was full of classic movies.
That's a very broad use of the word 'classic'! 😉😀
I like "the alphabet people", but rainbow people is cool too. I hope they know it is meant with love.
Absolutely. 😉🙂
as someone who is the "G" (or Q!) in the Lgbtqia+ (on a sesame seed bun!), any support is appreciated... or indeed anyone who keeps their prejudices to themselves and hopefully discover they don't really care much about what other people's sex lives involve is a step in the right direction. I've gotten to the point where I want to say, "Call me anything ... just don't call me late for dinner!". but then such cheesy "dad jokes" probably don't help the cause hehe!
Late for dinner, literally my dad's joke.
I received my boxset, but no poster was included. I thought a poster was supposed to come with this set?
Contact Umbrella if you're not sure. marketing@umbrella.com.au.
Did you check inside the disc case?
@@charlienoble7862 Oh... it was a folded post. What a let down.
How are the picture and audio quality on this blu ray disc?
Rock solid.
Funny how the best actors got to play the worst people in 80s and 90s action films. Not that Alan Rickman's bank manager minded.
Villains are often much more interesting than heroes.
Great movie. I love it. Frank Langella gave a brilliant performance as Skeletor. 👱 💀
It was a difficult role. All that makeup made it hard to act.
btw. thanks for being an ally! that people use an old genealogical tract to furnish their own prejudices is sad. that they think that morals, ethics, values and laws didn't exist up 'til the point that multi-authored (and constantly altered over centuries) tome is just plain ignorant of history. Cherry picking quotes to illustrate ones lack of empathy is a waste of any mind capable of reading. I want to quote a Smiths song that has the lyrics' "It's easy to laugh, it is easy to hate. It takes strength to be gentle and kind"...but even Morrisey has more recently engaged in some silly xenophobia.
Being a good person isn't difficult. It just requires ditching a lot of toxic baggage the past has given us.
Terry when you say stuff like "The Last Boy Scout" is one of your favorite movies it makes me wonder if we are brothers by another mother. Please don't let ignoramuses get your blood pressure up. As far as I am concerned there are only two types of people, good people and buttholes.
The Last Boy Scout rocks! I should do a Bruce Willis double feature on the channel.
Thanks for the support, brother. Keep on chooglin'
I was never a He-man kid (Ninja Turtles for life!) so I never saw Masters of the Universe but I may have to catch up with it
Worth it. If you like that 1980s aesthetic, you'll dig it.
@@terrytalksmovies I do dig the eighties, after all it produced me. Hahaha. Also, f@$k that guy who left that nasty comment. I support the rainbow folk and underdogs everywhere. Keep doing what you're doing, good sir
Great review, but outstanding response to the bigot. I'm glad that the trash took itself to the curb. I'm Christian, and I fully support the Rainbow people and have your back.
Dolph really WAS pretty. 😊
Thanks @Skaramine.
Yeah but not as pretty as Jean Marais. 😉
I'm a little uncomfortable with them including a Gary Goddard commentary, given the multiple credible accusations of child sexual assault against him.
I didn't know that. Wow.
aaarg and yech! yeah that would definitely change ones reading of a commentary knowing any of that. horrible! I'm guessing the commentary was done before the allegations became widely known and maybe it was too late to withdraw them...or they felt "publish and be damned" and doubled down on it. It's depressing the amount of people (well, Mostly men!) who get the slightest bit of wealth and power and then use it to exploit those who can't defend themselves.
Don't shit on your own doorstep
I'm not sure what you mean.
I think they're summarising the Leviticus quote.
